You did well to state your opinion and that's most important.

No one is saying not to used Whisper. Not at all.

"Porn may not be great works of cinema", but JAV isn't regular porn either. Neither is Italian porn for those who love that... like me:rolleyes:

For me, I watch JAV for not only fapping, but to enjoy the stories.
Accuracy does matter to me.

But as you say, everyone has an opinion and should be allowed to express it:)

To me the stories are important, but mainly because they may enhance the eroticism, i.e. the "fapping" potential of the movie. For that, however, I really only care that the general storyline is accurate, not so much the minor details. Primarily I want to known everyone's main motivation.

The first title I used Whisper to translate was MIDD-847. I always liked that title, but for years I never understood why Sayuki Kanno went into that hotel room and let those strange men do whatever they wanted to her, while being reluctant/embarrassed. According to Whisper's translation, her husband says over the phone, "you remember I like gamble, right? They are my gamble friends. This time we play mahjong. We bet wives. I lose." So she had to become their sex slave because her husband lost a game of mahjong? LOL, my elderly mother plays mahjong every day!

So I clean that bit of dialogue as follows: "you remember I like to gamble, right? They are my gambling friends. This time we played mahjong. We bet our wives. I lost." Means the same exact thing but I fixed tenses and grammar issues. But what if the perfect translation is slightly different but with the same meaning? Does it matter?

Anyway, I'm pretty sure Whisper got that right in the general sense. It's far too specific, and weird, for the reason to have been anything else. And of course, the rest of it is all sex dialogue where things can be a little more flexible. I had to clean it all up because it sounds awkward the way it came out. But the general storyline is there so it's fine.

Agreed. I've gone over the four subs I've created through Whisper, and they need a lot of cleaning, but overall they aren't bad. At least, compared to autosubs I've gotten off subtitlecat which are usually translated from Chinese soft subs. If we're comparing it to human translations, nothing will ever be as good but how many pro translations are even out there? If there's 50K subs available for JAV titles, I doubt more than 1000 are pro translations. If we are waiting for anything near 100% accuracy, we're stuck watching 99%+ of JAV titles with no subs.

What matters to me is 1) the subs are coherent, meaning they are not word salad. 2) that the dialogue makes some sense in context of the video, i.e. people are not talking about the price of fixing an automobile while having sex. If those criteria are met, a cleanup will fix the awkwardness of the dialogue.

Strict accuracy to the Japanese does not matter to me. If I spoke Japanese to be able to see the inaccuracies, I wouldn't need a sub file to begin with. These subs are not actually for people who speak Japanese, and given that is the case, I see no reason to concern ourselves about strict accuracy when we'll never know the difference. If these were great works of cinema I can see it, but it's porn, so I'm not seeing why we worry about strict accuracy, but that is all just IMO of course as I'm sure some people diagree.

I agree. Very well said. :centil:

That was also my point. As long as the context of the scenario or story is there then it is not useless or "nothing". Obviously, Whisper transcriptions are not grammatically correct but the sentences make sense given the scenario or story. In my opinion, I don't see the point of being too sensitive about it because you can always clean it up using subtitle editing applications like Aegisub or SubtitleEdit. :elegan:

Thank you for expressing your opinions. :nikmat:

I also second what is mentioned about Whisper, currently I have gone through Whisper I create more than 100 films and most of them have made me smile and something else, at some point I am going to give myself time and edit some to clean and give it better quality to the subtitle but at the moment I am enjoying the fruits a lot, I hope the developers continue to improve Whisper's AI.

Well, pro translators mean that they don't do it for free. It takes several days to translate AND create the timestamps (so it's basically a 2 on 1 task). My website currently has over 900 (850+ already added in the catalog) human translated subtitles. We have 7 translators available, so we can handle bulk orders. We had few times some customers requesting 12 to 15 subs at once. If some subs are requested we do it. But some people expect that quality for free. Yeah, sorry, nobody will do that for free.

Yes, I've looked into it, and what you guys charge is IMO quite fair for he amount of time that goes into doing these translations. It's a given that it will cost several hundred dollars for a single title. So if we wanted everything - probably a million or so titles - pro translated, it would collectively cost us hundreds of millions of dollars. Which is why we are stuck with auto translations of Chinese soft subs, and things like Whisper, for the vast majority of titles, and I don't see that ever changing. Not the fault of pro translators. No one is going to do translations for $5/hour. It's just economic reality that we will never see more than a tiny number get pro translated.

Maybe doing some kind of poll to see which movies are requested the most would help to prioritize which subs to do or not (among fans). Also, probably not every movie needs a translation. And with us, a 120min would cost 204$ to translate (delivery around 7 days). We can do crowdfunding project if several people want to request a movie together (and reduce the cost /person).

I'd go for that and even throw in some money. I think the main issue is getting enough people interested in the same title, or group of titles, such that they'd all be willing to throw in some $$.

OK here's another weird thing using the Whisper collab. It downloads and saves the file to my folder, but continues running for at least another 10 minutes after. Which counts toward my time using it, and may affect whether I can get more done on the same day. Wondering if I shouldn't just reset it the moment the file appears in my download folder.

You can only transcribe 6 files per account, sometimes only 5, but most of the time it's 6 files, I use two accounts and I even have an extra one for weekends.

You mean per day? I've done 11 already. I never signed up for an account.
It is possible that you are not using the virtual version, then most likely you are using your computer's graphics, you can check it with the resource manager, if you see that your graphics is working then you are only partially using the virtual environment.

In my case, it only lets me upload 6 files of 200 mb and each one lasts 2 hours, after that the virtual graph is deactivated and it no longer allows me to continue working.
I get two hours per day, which includes time to upload and time to process the files. Once the two hours is up, I have to wait 24 hours.

Could be. I get a message at the bottom sometimes that says "you are not using the GPU." Either way, it works.
