Between 5K UHQ VP9 and 8K HEVC, which version should I get? The file size for 5k is surprisingly larger than 8k.

It depends on your hardware. Normally you should see better an 8K VR video with less bitrate than a 5K one with more bitrate, because the 8K one has more resolution, and in VR the resolution is more important than the bitrate, since the lenses magnify the pixels. The more pixels there are, the sharper it will look. With fewer pixels it looks a bit blurrier.
But as I say, it also depends on your hardware. In Quest it seems that the difference is less noticeable, I use PC VR where I apply 2X supersampling and MSAA filter even to 8K videos, and I see more defined 8K than 5K, even if they have a crappy bitrate as JAV 8K VR has.
The 8K VR videos that are being uploaded take up less space than the 4K and 5K versions because they have very low bitrate. They are a big mess. I don't know who is to blame, Fanza or the uploaders.
The best thing to do is to download both versions, and compare them yourself.

In the Advance Video Settings, try to change MSAA to 2 and Resolution to 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc, As far as your graphics card will let you.
In Basic Video Settings, move the Sharpen option to the right:
You can also zoom out, increases sharpness. With these options the definition of the videos is improved, if your graphics card can handle it.

Beware, if you have Quest 3 then it's not the same....
I have HP Reverb G2 that connects to the PC via HDMI cable, with direct image. But when you connect the Quest 3 to the PC, it is not direct image, because it does not have HDMI, it is compressed streaming.
Even if you do all this I have explain, it doesn't do much good because to be able to watch it on the Quest 3, the video is compressed to 4K, or whatever you use with the streaming software you have.
If you are using the PC version of HereSphere I think you are losing image quality, because the video is compressed for streaming to the glasses. You should use the Quest version of Heresphere, which runs directly on the headset. You won't be able to use as much supersampling and as much MSAA as on PC, but you don't compress the video as you do if you send it from the PC.
Oh dang, I bought the Steam version of Heresphere cos its cheaper with regional pricing. Ah well, I'll consider buying it again for the Quest.
Has anyone been able to test the JAV VRs descensored by IA? They are already out there, but I've only seen them on a site where you have to subscribe to be able to download them.

"Decensored" JAV already looks bad enough, i wouldn't have high hopes. in VR it would have to be high quality, consistent and matching for both eyes to be watchable. I would love to be wrong though. For now if you want to see Japanese pussy your best bet is the few JAV performers that emigrated to the west, amateur girls at CovertJapan, or some very few leaked scenes that are circulating here and there. Or take a vacation to Japan and visit a soapland, although that might be a bit pricey..

You'd have to manipulate the image a bit first to flatten it before removing the censorship(like the player does for each eye) and then put it back as it was after the decensoring so it is technically not too hard.
The problem is that all decensoring will look very blurry with weird movements on it so I doubt it would be enjoyable to watch in VR. But I can't watch decensored JAV in 2D because I think it looks too awful already and many obviously are fine with it so my standards are on the high side.

Left it at default. I tried to crank up the resolution and the MSAA and the video acted up. Video literally just started to stutter and I lost control of the err...controllers. Had to hit the button to shutdown the app cos I can't stop the video due to the laser pointer thingy jerking wildly all over the place along with the video.
Anyone else noticed that pre-surgery Mori Hinako had uneven breasts? Its not immediately obvious and barely noticeable in 2D cos her natural pair is small. But pay enough attention to them in VR and you will see it. Her right breast is somewhat smaller than her left one. She probably augmented them cos she was feeling a bit self-conscious about them.
