But the company that is really raising the level of JAV VR is SOD VR. Not only They are releasing more titles, but unlike KMP, they are varied, all proposing something different. Some last 2 or 3 hours, have very different scenes and scripts, and very crazy and funny stuff.

SOD VR has managed to create titles with very erotic and natural scenes, and camera shots never seen before. One example is DSVR-1051 (Download) , where you really feel that you are with two incredible and beautiful actresses such as Yuna Ogura and Mahiro Tadai.

But JAV VR still has a lot of things to improve. The most unfortunate is the image quality, which is getting worse and worse. Most of the 2021 releases look worse than in 2019.

The only exception is KMP, the only company that has good image quality and definition at the level of western releases. But the resolution and bitrate are still low.

It's embarrassing to watch JAV VRs with a bitrate of 20 Mbps, everything looks blurry when there is movement, and backgrounds are pixelated. VR magnifies the image with the lenses, so more bitrate is needed than in a 2D movie.

We can find Western VRs at 8K and a bitrate of 150 Mbps, but JAV VR is stuck at 4K and 20 Mbps since 2018. It's like watching a DVD. This needs to improve in 2022.

I also wish they would increase the variety of scenes and type of actresses. I would like to see more lesbian VRs and more Mature women VRs.

SOD recent releases with this new filming style are really great, unlike some other scenes in the past the image quality is great (for 4k JAV). I purchased many of them from afesta and while bitrate is low (~20MBs) keep in mind that the codec is h265. As a rule of thumb h265 needs less than half of the bitrate for the same quality when comparing with h264 (codec used for most older releases), which makes this 20MBs of h265 and equivalent of >40MBs in h264.

I know you claimed a decline in image quality before, and while i havent looked into the bitrates in general, when cleaning up my library i didnt notice a decline in image quality. Most of the releases i got rid of were older (2019 mostly). But it was done just be visual inspection of the videos itself.

Image quality is more than just the pure bitrate (and codec). Lighting, camera positioning, postproduction play are huge role in how image quality is perceived. In my option considering JAV is at 4k the image quality is pretty amazing. When you look at 4k videos from western studios the videos dont keep up with the JAV quality at ALL.

Besides CzechVR non of the western studios is using 'real' 8k footage, so its basically just upscaled, although sometimes with AI. And even they use frame interpolation from 30 to 60fps because 8k cameras are still rare, even more rare are cameras able to record 8k@60fps.

I think we will see releases of first DSLRs able to shoot 8k@60fps this year and hopefully some MFT cameras as well, as these cameras are used from JAV studios.

I have compared title-by-title releases from 2019 and from 2021 of companies like KMP, Crystal VR and others, and a lot of titles from 2019 look better, with more definition and less pixelated backgrounds. Not all titles of course, and other labels have improved.

h265 codec needs less bitrate, true, but still I see pixelated backgrouds and blurred image when there is motion in JAV VR, which I don't see in western VRs (talking about the top labels like Wankz VR, CzechVR, SLR..., there are a lot of amateurs releases in western VR, too)

Maybe only CzechVR films at 8K, but all western VRs offer 5K, 6K or 7K versions with much better definition than JAV VR. The difference is significant in the glasses. JAV VR needs to improve here. At least in my perception.

The only company with similar image definition than western VRs is KMP (VRKM and BIBIVR titles).

It is true that JAV VR has improved a lot with the lighting, camera positioning and postproduction, and all of this add image quality. Some of 2017- 2018 VR titles are unwatchable precisely because of the lack of all of this.

I know there has been a huge evolution in the state of VR porn in the last years (devices, resolutions, camera angles), but I am a bit frustrated too.

In general JAV VR is in a really good place. There is an abundance of really high quality content, with beautiful actresses with really good acting skills and japanese producers know how to make perfectly use of VR.
Right now there are basically three immersion breaker in JAV VR:

1.Resolution
Biggest issue right now, while JAV producers are working really hard to optimize visual quality and often i'm amazed what kind of good visual quality they can squeeze out of that 4k resolution, still the quality difference to 'real' 8k videos is eminent. As I said before unfortunately camera equipment is not fully there yet, first cameras are out able to capture 8k@30fps. If i have to choose between 8k@30fps and 4k@60fps i would choose 4k@60fps any time. I dont wanna go back to that stuttering footage.

Personally i noticed that a lot of the perception of image quality depends on what you/your brain is used to. When i watched a lot of CzechVR 8k footage somehow 4k JAV became almost unwatchable for me because i got used to the increased quality. Same goes for the censoring, as it becomes more noticeable.

2.Censoring
Initially I thought this was a big immersion breaker, but suprisingly its not bothering me a lot. Still would be nice to see BJ scenes uncensored some day. Now as i exclusively watch JAV, western VR porn almost feels weird with being uncensored.

3.Language barrier
While reading the movie description helps to grasp the general plot it still would be nice to understand whats being talked about. I've been trying to generate subtitles (using autosub+deepl translator) and while it was not perfect,results were not too bad. Unfortunately my favourite player (Pigasus) cannot properly display these subtitles. I could probably use another player (DeoVR, HereSphere, Whirlgig...) but right now having that little bit extra of visual clarity that Pigasus offers thanks to their rendering method. So i will have to look into that later. Or i have to learn japanese ;-)

Western VRPorn has it all (high resolutions, no censoring, and a lot of english content), but unfortunately it lacks everything else that JAV VR has, so I highly doubt it will catch up any soon. Its not just the plots that are bad, but also the beauty and the acting skill of the cast is way behind JAV. There is also a lack of technical skill of the producers compared to their japanese counterparts.

I use PC VR glasses and always try to squeeze the most out of the image. I apply as much sharpening and supersampling as I can, and that's where you notice all the blurry backgrounds and little detail in most JAV VR movies, versus western VRs.

SexLikeReal (SLR) said a year ago they wanted to shoot JAV VR in Japan with Japanese directors and 6K cameras with highest quality, unfortunately it didn't happen, probably because of the coronavirus.

About censorship, well, you get used to it. But It's a bummer when there's a blowjob or when the girl offers you her pussy or her butt to lick.

I wish someone would shoot JAV VR without censorship. The Caribbean VR movies don't count, the camera is crap and the girls are always 100 miles away.

And yes, language barrier is a big problem, too. I have learn around 30 or 40 japanese words and I understand some of the expressions, but they talk constantly during the sex scenes and I'm sure it would be much more erotic and immersive if I understood everything they were saying.

You are not wrong, western studios for sure film in higher resolutions, although a lot of that 7k/8k is bullshit only made up for marketing purposes.

Unlike JAV studios, western studios use primarly Zcam. These is the Zcam k1 Pro (4k@60fps) and the Zcam K2 Pro (6k@60fps). I suspect CzechVR is using two Zcam E2-E8 and upscale their 8k footage to 60fps. There isnt any 7k camera so it is upscaled and a lot of studios filming in 8k upscale as well.

Among JAV studios there is a huge diversity in quality for sure. I think a lot has to do with postprocessing.

Yes, i also use my Quest 2 (4k screen) with the sharpest player (Pigasus), but still even with the 8k footage from CzechVR i am not fully satisfied, as background is still not fully sharp. I found the 8k footage from the FXG FM360 more impressive. Off course its a big improvement from 4K JAV though.

It does, somehow, but dont expect too much. Some lines are pretty good, some are just bullshit, at least for one scene that i tried. First you have to create the japanese subtitle from the movie, and there is a pretty straighforward tool for it (pytranscriber). Then there is a tool to translate that subtitle to english via DeepL. And while translation is better than Google translate, its still far from being perfect. For i guess in the transcription process not everything is catched up perfectly, and then japanese is a highly context-sensitive language, so translation tools can only guess what to real meaning is.

There are some thread in this forum too with all the tools. Unfortunately not a lot of players seem to support and properly display subtitles in 3D VR180 SBS.

Just noticed that again with CzechVR. I was considering to subscribe again as the visual clarity is pretty good (afaik only real 8k studio), but wow their cast is not really my taste (to say it nicely). But i think this is a problem with western porn in general. I guess thanks to free porn and amateur-porn, there isnt enough money in the game to attract enough beautiful actresses. The girls in western porn (not just VR) often look troubled therefore a lot of beauty surgerys, tattoos, piercings..

Different game in Japan i guess, as the market is highly regulated and still a high demand for japanese content and a lot of paying customers with deep pockets. This leads to an abundance of content and actresses.

Thanks for the info. For me SLR has the best image quality. They release at 6K with with a bitrate of 150 Mbps and 60 o 70 GB for a one-hour film. They look stunning. Possibly they are using Zcam K2 Pro (6k@60fps). I have only watched a couple of CzechVR at 8K, they look awesome too. JAV VRs use 20 Mbps and 12 o 14 GB....

Yes, they use Fisheye. I like it because it has a wider FOV and better IPD. No problem to watch Fisheye with Virtual Home Theater or HereSphere. I don't use DeoVR, poor image quality and I can't adjust the IPD like the others.

JUVR-133 is another attempt to finally have a decent VR movie with the wonderful Maki Tomoda.



The previous ones are very mediocre, with a lot of clothes and the camera too far away. Or the hated handheld camera, where the image does not stop moving.

Unfortunately, the photos do not transmit good feelings. In all of them Maki is far away from the camera, I don't see any face-to-face scenes with the camera close, where you feel you are with Maki.

And the nonsense with the bandaged hands...

We will see what it gives. We have been waiting for many years for a decent VR movie with Maki Tomoda, Maki Hojo or Chisato Shoda.... And we are still waiting...

At least there is an awesome VR movie with Yumi Kazama, JUVR-099. Why aren't all your VR movies like this one, Madonna?

If you like Akari Mitani, she gives dozens of beautiful kisses in HNVR-81. She is very friendly and charming in this movie. Good sex scenes with camera close, and an awesome face-to-face cowgirl position. You really feel you are with her.

Definitely a masterpiece, along with DSVR-1051 and DSVR-1048 my favorite scenes right now. Unfortunately the director of all these scenes Yazawa Recieve (https://twitter.com/yazawa_recieve) recently announced that he left SOD after 9 years. From what I understand (i dont speak japanese so can only use machine translation to read his tweets), he will continue to produce VR videos.
You are right other studios are adapting this technique too, but they were rather disappointing i.e. KAVR-203. I hope other studios will improve it further, and Yazawa will quickly return to producing VR for another studio.

I am not a fan of multi girl scenes, but I have to admit that some titles with 2, 3 or more girls that SOD VR is releasing, are impressive. Specially if they include the awesome face-to-face missionary, like DSVR-1027:

SOD VR are the best, they are always trying new things.

A good example is a new "experience" I just bought some days ago at A festa VR: DSVR-1085 with the cute Meisa Nishimoto (first time in VR):




Three hours with the beautiful Meisa Nishimoto and 5 scenes very diferent:

1. Undressing very slowly and with the camera very near.
2. Standard sex in various positions, including face-to-face missionary

Aika Yamagashi came out with a new scene, PRVR-055. She doesn't do VR very often, but when she does it's always spectacular. It's shot with high quality ASMR microphone, so it's a treat if you like that kind of thing. Part one and two is a pretty standard scene, very passionate and well shot. The last part has a unique gimmick, where you can hear three separate voices of Aika, two whispering in your ears and the one playing with you. A bit trippy, but hot
