Congrats for creating a working program! To my mind, it's indeed a bit barebone, but my my... you don't need to apologize to anyone. You have a clear vision of your project, which is for a particular customer, and only that customer has any right to criticize you.

It's far more important to be very clear about the end goal and finishing it than to start a grandiose project for imaginary phantom customers but may never actually become a working program.

But having said that, don't you think your plain vanilla view is really too barebone? With over 4000 vids all you have is DVD code, with no sense of actress(es), title and year of publication. It seems not too hard to "borrow" the scrapper part of @LordPhantom 's project and adapt it to supply at least a little bit of useful info for your database.

Also the display format "hh:mm:ss AM" for Run Time seems a bit weird, why not just format it as "hh:mm"?

About a name, how about Friender? You can tell your trafficking feet it's a pet project.

I watch all my JAV in the wee hours of the morning, so the AM in the Run Time doesn’t bother me. KIDDING! To be honest, and as I said, I whipped that up in one evening, so I didn’t even notice. While in this current state it does exactly what I need it to do (even helped me avoid getting a duplicate title last night, so it is already paying for itself so to speak!) it would be nice to also search by Actress, true. Thanks for your input! Much appreciated.

So guys, is there any jav database that also include the actor?

If you look at data18.com (west porn database), in a title movie, there is info about Title, Storyline, Cover, Back Cover, actress and also actor.

That way, we could search movie based on an actor.

@mods: If this is the wrong forum for my thread I'm terribly sorry. Please move it to the right one. Thanks.
I read the forum rules and hope that I don't violate them. :scared:

For more than a year I'm thinking about developing something like AniDB (I guess some of you know that website) for JAV. One point would be a reliable and central source, the second one a chance to organize your JAV (DVDs, CDs as well as files). And you also can easily keep on track about your favourites AV idols or genre. :please:

I would appreciate your thoughts about it. :bow-pray: I know that it is nothing you can build in one night. Also you need a lot of people for such a project (programers, mods, users that update the data).

About my person:
I have experience in the development with Java and SQL - and also some knowledge about PHP. I only have some basics skill about HTML and CSS. And I'm a total loser when it comes to design issues (visual design, not code design). :hi:

My favourite AV idols are Rio Hamasaki, Yuu Kawakami, Neiro Suzuka, Rina Wakamiya, Rin Aoki and Saki Tsuji. :inlove:

Hi CodeGeek,

This is well after your post but being FAIRLY new, still, I just wanted to respond to your post because you are the first person whose post I've read who confesses to being a big fan of Yu (Yuu) Kawakami. She is my favorite and I've recently discovered that I'm way late on jumping on her bandwagon as she has been around for several years. She's STILL my favorite! LOL!

I don't think I've seen ANY of her movies with subs done for them though I have a couple of them that I'm seriously considering starting a Crowdfund to get a couple of them. Would you possibly be interested? In fact, do you have any subs for any of her movies you'd be willing to share or to sell to help offset any cost you paid to get them?

More to come!

Over a year ago I started to try to develop a better "javlibrary.com" because I was quite unhappy about many things on their site. I got the idea after I saw this thread.
I quickly started dreaming of a community driven JAV database that combined a lot of different features in one site. Some of the features that I planned were:
Searching for all JAVs (especially if they don't have a fancy id), searching for all kinds of idols/actresses and their different names, a detailed page for every idol/actress, a easy way to manage your local collection, built in system for users to offer filehost links and users to request JAVs, point system to reward the users for inserting new data etc...
After I was done with the features to display, insert and edit JAVs I stopped my development. It was very time consuming but that was not the real problem. The real problem for me was the idea about hosting this thing later. I had no idea how I should safely/anonymously host this thing . So I stopped my development. :(

Recently I thought to continue developing this database because I got really frustrated that this doesn't already exists xD
Because of that I thought I share my little story and ask if maybe someone has an idea for me how to safely/anonymously host it?

I'm not too sure what you mean by safely hosting it (do you mean so the site can withstand attacks?). I assume that by anonymously hosting it, you mean you want to host it in such a way that your identity can't be revealed. In which case it will largely depend upon the requirements of the site (e.g. what programming languages / frameworks you use) and who you want to be anonymous to (the public? the server provider? the authorities?).

One thing I would say, though, is that the rate of JAV releases is way too much for such a database to be updated manually, whilst still being comprehensive and accurate.
What JAVLibrary does is automatically scrapes DMM for new releases, then allows the community to submit corrections. I think this sort of hybrid solution is a more sensible approach.

I think that, despite the usefulness of JAVLibrary, there is still major room for improvement. That said, I'm not sure it entirely makes sense to create a separate website just because JAVLibrary is not perfect. Because ultimately, there will be aspects of the new website that people will not like, or there will be features that people will want. And what happens then? Create a third website?

Personally, I would rather either see JAVLibrary improved upon, or a new free software (open source) website that anyone can contribute to. Then, if the community wants a certain feature, they can just add it. And there's no risk of the site suddenly disappearing.

Those are just my initial thoughts, anyhow. I think the idea in general of having a unified website with detailed information on videos and actresses is good. :)

I agree with @ldjb and would go a step further and suggest you build something for yourself. Building something that will be hosted at some point will just bog you down, keep you busy, and get you frustrated with bug reports and "you can't make it do this? This is useless, then!" remarks. Save yourself such headaches and just concentrate on your needs. The "community" will just discourage and disappoint you in the long run. They are largely leachers to the core, they are only interested in their needs and wants. If you've ever uploaded content you would know what I'm talking about. 200+ downloads of what you post = 6 or 7 "thanks" or likes. I learned that years ago. Just do for you, my friend. Let the rest envy or go without. That's my motto. o_O:D

@ldjb I can understand your reasoning and I would be happy if JAVLibrary would add more features. I started using it a year ago and since then I didn't see any changes so I'm wondering if someone is actively developing new features for it or not.
As you already guessed, I meant with "safely/anonymously" that I don't want my identity to be revealed. Especially the server and the domain should be anonymous but this is not easy to achieve.
For example if I would host a pure copy of JAVLibrary without all the download links in the comments on a server in my country I would face many lawsuits. I wouldn't even host a normal website in my country because there are so many laws that can fuck you in the end...
I think an open source project would be difficult to establish because it would be easy to hold someone responsible if there are legal issues.

@Casshern2 Yeah, I understand what you mean. Especially the part that most users only want to download and not contribute. That is a pity indeed but there are also other people that would happily fill such a database with missing information. I believe that a community driven solution (with more features than JAVLibrary) is the only way to get a JAV database that achieves the closest possible completeness. But I think this will be forever a dream of mine

My thoughts

it can work to a point here, but it all has to be down to posting accurate info, and the thread starter has to be fairly active as well, for edits, etc, the good thing about it, it can be edited, and anyone can add to the thread, and also tag info, and like to the threads where you can dl, what we do not want is a lot of requests, and if it is an orgy, and you do not know all the actors, with the help of others, all the info can be gathered in to one thread, and only info

The way to start it, is through new releases, at the beginning, I tried starting new sections, in the Idol and JI sections, here for Idol, looks like it failed, or is still finding its feet, it does not take to much to add the section

enough from me now, just a few of my thoughts

I know some people use Personal Video Database for JAV. So there's nothing to stop you from doing the same.

But what I'm asking is can this program be modified or installed so it can be used on this site

Isn't it just a desktop application? I'm sure?
