In Japan the names may be looking/hearing similar - but Reiko and Rieko are nonetheless - totally different names.

How is written Rieko in Japanese (Kanji) > 里枝子 = Rieko. 平岡里枝子 = Hiraoka Rieko
How is written Reiko in Japanese (Kanji) > 怜子 = Reiko. 小早川怜子 = Kobayakawa Reiko

Most Japanese family names have a meaning - some of them from Mother nature.

Hiraoka - 平岡 > Flat level hill ( laying before higher mountains). Quite popular family name in Japan.
