If I may shift the topic just slightly please, I am not a JAV fan but I am an IV fan. I am American and I don't understand Japanese or Chinese languages. But my opinion is that it would be well worth the overhead for the IV industry in Japan to add English subtitles or over-dubs. There is more speaking in the IV DVDs and there is more direct interaction with the viewer. It pains me to have to watch some IV videos without understanding the language and text because in many cases it would add great value to the experience.

America does not have any competition for the IV market. While I humbly agree with many of the assessments made about the popularity of JAV in the U.S., I don't think the situation is the same for IV. The American market would be very large for IV (especially U-15) if two things happened: first, translation would help as I have said; second, the videos need to be more easily available. I am grateful for Akiba forum and other forums where these videos are shared, because the transaction of ordering DVDs and bringing them from Japan to the U.S.A. is very cumbersome. I don't even know how to join Japanese websites.

I apologize for shifting the topic. Thank you for listening.

You are forgeting that almost all Americans are against anything (at least openly) that sexualizes young (real or contrived) girls.

But I do agree with most of the other things you said.

With all due respect, I'm not forgetting anything. Your statement was more general and stereo-typical than what I would agree with. It's true that there is a strong conservative force against underage anything in the U.S., but it's also true that there is a lot of "IV" business. It's all scattered, small production. The American porn industry is very powerful. It won't allow domestic IV (the U.S. calls it no-nude) competition to flourish. For example, you won't fine no-nude videos in the video stores, over-18 or otherwise. It's 95% HC and 5% Playboy or similar SC nude, that's about it. American NN is available on the Internet by small businesses with generally shoddy production for monthly subscriptions, but there is not a no-nude industry competetive with porn like there is in Japan.

How about nowadays? Has anyone found a place where you could get subtitles for jav?

I like to watch japanese movies because of the storyline that leads to action. Sometimes i even skip part of the action if it is just straight fucking, that is so boring to watch.

The best movies have some kind of roleplay and seduction and I don't watch "normal" porn at all (10 secs of storyline and the rest is pumping).

True, thats why I wish so much that I could understand the conversation!

So very true especailly for western porn, I never even bother with it.
I mean, wtf, havent we all seen enough of the tube slipping and sliding in and out of the pink by now???

I love the kinky, weird, bazzare and teasing (like the "EVDV" type videos) JAV.

Foreplay and conversation in JAV appears quite amusing, it is a great loss for viewers who don't understand them. Why didn't Japanese producers add English sub?

Particularly because their market is the Japanese people or those who reside in Japan. Why bother making subtitles when they don't need it? Those who need are probably pirates like us.

True, besides it would mean more work if they translate it. In some JAV, it may not bei too much dialogue and it's definitely easy to translate for someone who speaks both languages, but you'd have more money and time to spent on, and since Japan is the main market of JAV, subtitles are not gonna happen.
Although I'd love to understand what they talk about in some of the interviews..

Yes, I guess we will all just have to wait untill technology gives us an affodable, instant speech to text, or better yet, speech to speech translater.

hopefully, the way cell phone aps are advancing so quickly nowadays, we wont have to wait too long. :perfectplan:

I have been watching uncensored AVs lately from C0390 and H0390. All of the women have conversation of almost 10 minutes in the beginning, and they were laughing doing other stuff. I think AVs are not just actions, but the interactions they the man and the woman have, what they say, are integral to the movie. How I love to know what they are saying. I may have to start downloading the movies with Chinese subtitles, if there are no English subtitles.

That is true: JAPAN AV is about interactions

That's what attracts viewers to JAPAN AV.

I got into Korean Variety shows for a couple months when I went to visit/work in Korea.
(Amazed by the entirely different TV culture in comparison to the States)
And I did some translating work for friends who were working in Korea with me, but had barely any knowledge of the Korean language, with my some what limited but understandable Korean.

And from that I found translations itself takes some time.
However, the grueling task of syncing everything to a movie is the biggest problem from a translators point of view.

On another note, I've even asked some people and started threads in multiple forums to see if anyone would be even remotely interested in translating for me.
I've even named a reasonable price for the subtitle work (I won't specify, but I will say the price I was willing to pay for subtitles to a movie was higher than actually cost of buying the movie itself).
Most people who I've personally contacted declined because the hours it would require to make well translated subtitles.

So in a nutshell, too much time gets wasted rewinding the movie over & over, listening in, and translating it to adequate wording that will sync correctly with progression of the conversation in the movie...

If someone really, really wanted to do this for a friend or a price, direct scene by scene translation is not an absolute necessity. All the person would have to do is watch/listen to the video, and then give you a synopsis of the conversations. That at least would be better than nothing.

All the person would have to do is watch/listen to the video, and then give you a synopsis of the conversations.

Here you go: Interviews almost always consist of asking the girl's name, her body size (bust, waist, hips, height), when her first time was, what she thought about it, how often she has sex and/or masturbates, if she uses toys, and why she decided to get into JAV. Once you know that, all you have to listen for is her name, some numbers (for body size and age), "itakatta" (it hurt the first time), some more numbers for how often she has sex/masturbates (or amari for "not that often"), hai or iie for whether or not she uses toys, and okane (money) for why she got into JAV.

The only interviews that really deviate from that formula are just the few really famous models (Aoi, Mihiro, Rio, etc), since they sell enough DVDs to begin with in order to merit spending 20-30 minutes of a JAV DVD with non-sex content.

Well, yes, not to say that I wouldent want to know what is said in some interviews, but I already guessed that this is the content of most interviews.
It is the key conversations in some scenes that in most cases I would be interested in.
Like maybe in the hospital when the nurse is stroking the guy and coaxing him to cum. Or in the incest scenes when the slut mom is asking the poor abused son if he likes her tits and wants to suck them.:victim:

I think the same way. The bolded text could be written by me :) Those kind of scenes in the movies would be 10 times better with subtitles.

It is now about a year since my last post in this thread and I want to bring this issue up again.

The subtitles don't have to be synced or anything. Just the dialogue inside a .txt file would be perfectly fine for me. I could get the idea from the text. But if I wanted to, I could make and sync the subtitle file myself.
