They're all gonna have downsides, the perfect headset isn't going to happen. If it does happen, the cost will be astronomical. So you'll just end up waiting forever and will never know what it feels like to have Kawakita Saika sitting on your lap... well, kinda feel like... you don't actually feel anything but it sure looks like she is right there in front of you to the point where you will want to reach out and grope her... goddamit...

Back to topic. The VR industry is stagnating right now, with the Metaverse having flopped and thus Meta laying off quite a bit of staff including from their VR labs division. Pico, which is owned by Bytedance (TikTok) would be their main competitor but they also underwent a layoff that ended up cancelling the development of their Beat Saber clone that supposedly will also involve the usage of your legs.
This means there will be fewer headsets released. There was supposed to be a Quest 'Lite' this year, but that might be cancelled. Pico supposedly cancelled most of their releases this year in order to make a premium model that can compete with Apple's shiny new overpriced toy. Hah... good luck with that.
I'm not sure if there's anything to be particularly excited about this year when it comes to upcoming headset models. So I would say if you can afford to buy one and you really want to watch VR JAV, than now is as good a time as any - but only if you can afford it. Global economic outlook kinda crap right now.
There needs to be some sort of VR revolution to drive up the sales of headsets in order to see a significant mprovement in the market. As of right now, anyone who buys a VR headset is doing so just for porn. Anyone who tells you otherwise has his pants on fire or something. Porn usually drives tech development but the VR segment is too niche for now.
Apple is trying get the ball rolling, but they are aiming for the upmarket segment with both Meta and Pico eyeing them and looking to develop a competing model should they succeed. That won't matter to use JAV watchers. You have to be crazy rich to buy into that segment just to watch VR porn.
I'm pretty happy with my quest 3. Standalone with an option to connect to PC, high resolution, 120hz refresh rate, tons of supported apps. What i think needs to improve is FOV and comfort, but that's an issue with most headsets still.
But yeah, if you haven't tried VR yet, you really don't know what you're missing. It really changed my perception of regular porn. Like, why would i want to watch these dudes have fun when i could be there instead?

The reason 99% of porn I watch is JAV, even though I am European.
About VR headsets, I am happy with PC VR (HP Reverb G2). I have never tried standalone so I don't know how the videos will look like. But what I have seen is that if I play a movie in HereSphere with the default options, it looks acceptable. And I guess that's how it looks in standalone. But, thanks to the power of my graphics card, if I apply 2X supersampling and MSAA 2X, even to 8K videos, then the definition improves a lot, like going from DVD to Blu-ray. And I don't need to use streaming.
So as long as I can I'll keep using PC VR, because I think you get better definition with videos. The worst thing is the cable, but I can manage.

I did manage to grab some Stasyqvr and those were fun to watch... at least the slim non-tattooed girls with natural boobs. Fewer of them these days. There already aren't many torrents of those and only a bare handful meet the criteria of girls that I like.
I find myself watching less and less normal JAV. Why look at something as though you're spying at someone through a window when the girl could be right on your lap? And that eye contact... VR is the first time I actually started looking at their eyes instead of at their breasts. Many of the girls realize this is important and stare right into the camera to enable this instead of spacing out.
I still do enjoy gravure content though which is something VR really lacks. Yet even than, the headset shines in its own way. Its gravure in your own private home theater. That still beats out a monitor.
Some quality western titles come out from time to time, but they are hard to find for download.
I have been subscribed for some time at SLR (Sexlikereal), but it's not worth it. Too many plastic boobs, tattoos, piercings, fake eyelashes, and tons of makeup.
Plus in western productions they shoot with the camera far away, too little interactivity, and they almost don't film face-to-face cowgirl. Most of their movies are not real VR, it's like watching TV in 3D, with the girl always one or two meters away.
And the kisses... and the whispers in the ear... VR is another level.
My porn consumption is 95% VR and 5% 2D that don't exist in VR, like lesbian (I don't understand why).
I don't watch flat straight porn anymore, as you are commenting, it doesn't excite me anymore to watch an ugly guy doing stuff with a girl, when I can be the one doing it. With VR you go from being a voyeur, to feeling like you're with the girl.

Lol I got used to it. I never trust the cover shot of the title and always check the screencaps.
So few girls actually look like their screenshots. Kawakita Saika, Aizawa Minami, etc. The ones who are so pretty on their own that photoshop only makes them look worse.
If you ask me, the biggest con now is An Coco. New Idea Pocket girl, they usually have high standards. After all, this is the studio with Sakura Momo and Aizawa Minami.

OK, she's not actually unattractive. But in VR, its very obvious that she's just average in looks. I just noped out of this title and put on an actual Nagase Yui vid instead.
ts waaaay worse in their fuzoku industry. If you look at the pages of all the delivery health and soapland girls, they are all as hot as AV stars. But the reality... well, even worse than your screen cap.
That's why in the other threads here asking about paying for sex in Japan, I emphasize that folks should lower their expectations. They will not look anywhere near like their photos, and you can add anywhere between 3 to 5 years to their age. 10 years even sometimes.
I watched An Coco's VR the other day, and I liked it. Granted it's not a super beauty, but it's pretty cute. In that video she is lacking in makeup and hairstyle.

I'm a bit depressed, Filevkool has uploaded 20 o 30 new VR titles and there are hardly 2 or 3 that I really want to watch. Other 4 or 5 has some scene I am interested, but no more. 
I like watching single scenes less and less, I prefer complete movies.
For my taste the movies of the last year have too many clothes, the camera is more and more distant, and there is less interactivity than before. They have also lost many scenes of presentation and ambience, more and more VR movies go straight to sex, and that's it. And the scenes and length of the movies have been reduced. Some years ago almost all titles had 3, 4, 5 scenes, now most have 2 or 3 at most. JAV VR is losing its personality, and it's looking more and more like the mediocre western VR...
To find a movie that has the combo: full nudity in face-to-face scenes, face-to-face cowgirl and face-to-face missionary, now it is almost impossible. As I said, barely 3 or 4 titles in those 20 or 30 that has been uploaded. A couple of years ago there were many more.

Recently i watched DSVR-01437, one of the better performances by Nana Kisaki imo. She's interacting with the camera a lot in this one- leaning in for kisses, whispering, ear licking, nipple licking, drooling etc. No closeup missionary unfortunately, but closeups during cowgirl and lotus pose made it worth watching still. And there is a strategically positioned mirror that adds to the experience
SIVR-317 is also worth watching. I'm a big fan of Miru, but her last couple of scenes were not my favorite. This one is return to form, with some great intimacy, and intense, sweaty lovemaking. Also her first time in 8k so i couldn't miss it

I agree, it would be much better with the closeup. Maybe they wanted to show her squirting, but in that case why not have both closeup and wide shot?
Part 3 of the movie is where most of the action happens and she get's mostly naked there. I skipped some of her previous scenes because of her acting, but now I'm more interested

That's what I think many times. They shoot scenes of half an hour or an hour, I don't think it costs so much to do close-up shots and long shots with the same position, and everybody is happy...

Is it possible that in SIRV-290 there is not a single shot of her ass? In the screenshots you can only see her from the front.... It's something that S1 does sometimes and I don't understand it..... I watched a movie of Yura Kano (SIVR-298) where there is not a single shot of her awesome ass. Not a single frame!!
