I think it would good if a few users can start posting the NZB's here.

However, I had quite a bit of difficulty uploading NZB's to the forum. The attachment upload page keeps hanging for me...gave up after a few attempts. Could be due to overload of Akiba web server.

It's possible. One thing that help is to compress them. A nzb can go from 750KB to 15KB very easily so there's less time for it to hang if it's so small.

i would recommened not posting nzb files here. they can get far beyond a few KB's very easily, especially when they link to blurays and such.

also, if you know how to use a nzb, you most likely know how to use a usenet search engine and generate a nzb file for yourself.

edit: i also just realized that this is the p2p section. usenet is no p2p.

It's just way easier to get the nzb directly from here and compressed, they're not much bigger than torrents.

I don't feel like we need a separate Usenet area, unless we get at least 10 new posts per day.
It's just the best place to put them since there's so little activity here.

i just tested a 2mb nzb file for a 8gb bluray. at best compression it goes down to 750KB. dunno if this is acceptable or not. for 1.4gb br/dvdrip releases it's far less i guess. so, it depends what you want to share i guess.

actually i'm planning on boosting the usenet scene here a bit by uploading my jav stuff (lesbian and idol only). i will not share nzb files though, i will only link to the files in a usenet searchengine. it works just as good and in comparison to torrents, you don't neccessarely need nzb files in order to find and download releases.

(when i start uploading i hope i get some assistance completing my annd and lady releases. i have quite a few but not all of them of course.) :)

The forum allows you to update nzb's up to 4.96MB in size so it is. You can always go to the IRC channel and ask the mods what they think is the best course of action, they'll tell you what they prefer you do.

I have all the LADY and ANND that were posted in the threads from my sig and I'll gladly help. I started uploading to usenet the re-uploads I'm making to the threads but with a slow upload, it takes a while.

Good to see renewed interest in usenet. It may not be the answer to a maidens prayer but when the the shells are falling better to be down in the bunkers than up on the battlefield in the line of fire.

I hope this enthusiasm continues and we see nzb's posted along with other sharing methods.

Here is a link which gives a guide for newsgroups etc.

Whichever one the poster choose, most likely alt.binaries.multimedia.erotica.asians but it could be others.

The poster will either provide a .nzb file(which will tell the software where to get them) or the name of the group.

I appreciate your effort to upload JAV films to usenet, but not sharing the nzb file is a huge mistake.

Usenet search engine sites tend to disappear, and with usenet retention extending into the 1300+ days range it's very unlikely that the search sites will be around 3-4 years after posting, although the files will still be on usenet.

If size is an issue, I have had much better results with compressing NZB files, a 2MB file goes down to ~400KB with zip (best compression), and under 350KB with 7-zip (ultra compression).

As a closing note, nothing is stopping people from adding a missing nzb file to a thread, much like people attach torrents on the board if they are externally linked in the original post. I will definitely do this if I find a post without the nzb attached.

i've been around in usenet for several years now and the only searchengine that disappeared was newzleech.com

two other major sites that exist just as long, still exist. not saying you're wrong, it just never occured to me that search engines vanish.

also, all major usenet forums i know only give you header information or post a link to the search result. so, i would say it's actually uncommon to post nzb files.

We probably hang around in different spaces - I use nzb index sites and not forums.

All the major sites like Newzbin, nzbmatrix and nzbs.org offer direct nzb downloads to make it easier for users to get the files.

In the end, you still need the nzb file, making people go to a third-party search engine littered with ads is a bad solution I feel. :)

i used to use one nzb index site as well when i started using usenet but the site got closed at some point. wasn't newzbin commercial? don't remember or i confuse it with another site. now i prefer forums somehow. most movie releases (especially blurays) are uploaded by forum members. but i guess it depends on your location and what you download.

also, the two searchengines i use are not ad littered. :) both have one ad banner just like akiba. and they are actually ssl encrypted. if one banner is too much, you can always use an adblocker.

Many nzb index site closed over the years, but the main search engines like binsearch have been there for a really long time.

I also think it's preferable to upload the nzb since it eliminate an intermediary, the forum doesn't have a free space problem and it's the method used for torrents. It's actually against the rule to link to a torrent outside of here, but I don't know what their opinions are about nzb.

I personally get most of my nzb from index sites(hurray for newsnab) for my tv shows since sabnzbd(or sickbeard) can grab them automatically and IRC(EFnet) for the movies since there's pretty much no chance of it closing.

Also, yes, you have to pay to use newzbin but it's still an indexing site.

A few points,

1) usenet, like so many other technologies, gained in popularity from its use by pedophiles; the most popular groups, abpep-t, ls-series, mclt, etc. carried pictures and videos of young girls

2) usenet waned in popularity when it became increasingly unsafe and pedophiles moved to more secure and more anonymous programs like freenet and TOR onion sites which are used today

3) usenet has also begun to become the target of governments in the West; the first such case in the UK an owner of a usenet subscription service was recently charged with posession and distribution of child pornography for providing the aforementioned groups on his usenet service; there is also the case of Megaupload, which while not a usenet provider, illustrates the trend toward holding internet service providers liable for the content they provide

4) the above case paves the way for governments in the West to charge usenet providers with copyright infringement when pirated material appears on the groups they provide

5) if usenet service providers are made accountable for the content of the groups they provide access to, more and more will cease to operate since most of their business comes from subscribers seeking access to those groups, or they will move offshore; in either case an offshore usenet service is no different than an offshore torrent site

6) too much spam and off-topic material is posted on usenet making it incredibly user-unfriendly when compared to torrents; when using usenet there is often the possibility of downloading illegal content improperly posted in the wrong group and mislabeled

Just my 2 cents

1) I didn't know that, but that's true for a lot of things like IRC and many p2p softwares.

2) Many providers use encryption nowadays so it's safer than it was.

3-5) Nothing is safe from antipiracy organizations, but usenet is luckily still not a big target for them from what I've seen.

6) That's why it's better to search for the content using a forum(like this one) or a website index that filter the spam and categorize the content.
The possibility to download illegal or mislabeled content appears in every download alternative, which is why user feedback is important and this forum provides that. Some indexing sites can also remove content that gets reported as fake.

It has advantages over other methods like torrents since the files will always download very fast and stay complete for a very long time, but it also has disadvantages like it's easier for a file to get removed since it's hosted on a central server compared to torrents that can go on even if the tracker get shut down.

I personally prefer usenet because I only have to upload the file once as opposed to torrents where I have to do it over and over to keep it alive.

A few points,
...

SamKook is on point with everything! Some small additions:

The "fact" that usenet gained popularity due to pedophiles is false. Usenet gained popularity by allowing people to download files easily, and services like that always attract bad apples.

Getting busted for cp is different - it's a criminal offense. Downloading pirated media in most countries is legal for personal use. Uploading such media is most often a civil offense, which is not enough to bust anyone or give jail time.

Usenet today is an oversaturated market with a massive amount of hosts. If someone takes down a major player, more hosts will spawn.

Basically, there is no way one of the major Usenet hosts will be taken down any time soon. If that happens anyway, it will probably be Giganews - the users will get away scot-freet (no logs kept for downloads) and switch to any of the hundreds of available companies providing usenet service.

Cheers!

That's false. It's not legal in any western countries, and not legal in Japan, see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_pornography_laws_in_Japan

You should try and read the links that you provide. This quote is from the Wikipedia article you linked to,

"Japan, along with Russia, are the only two member countries in the G8 that have not outlawed the simple possession of child pornography itself"

And here is an article detailing a study conducted by Interpol, which found that most do not have any laws regarding child pornography.

New Study Reveals Child Pornography Not a Crime In Most Countries

Regardless, this is a thread about usenet and not the legality of CP.

I agree. So stop arguing.
