Everyone is impressively versed on the topic, unlike me. For my fellow ignoramuses, you might have some eyes opened with these pages from a new site, which may be a shill for NAUGHTY AMERICA.

damn right, so i got my cardboard this morning and watching your suggestion, Mia Malkova
even using cheap cardboard makes me whoa. amazing experience. and i crave for more. lol

but it started feeling dizzy after watching for 5 mins.

Yeah, I've read the comfort level is different for everyone but that using VR-type tech should see you taking a break every 20 minutes. So much for watching a full length movie, but, not sure I'd want to do that anyway.

I'm wondering if anyone - means if he or she doesn't have any real problems wearing it for longer than this - will make a pause. It reminds me of some video games which remind the player to take a break every now and then. And did anyone follow that recommendation? No, never heard of that. ;) So I guess it will be the same when the VR is out (I mean really out - the consumer versions, not the developer ones). :D

woa there are vr section in dmm !

http://www.dmm.co.jp/en/digital/vr/
Yeah, but I hope their idea of VR is just a 360° view. Otherwise Google street view is currently the top of VR. ;)
And didn't we have that when QuickTime was still around and new and fresh and cool? I can remember they also offered 360° view functionality many many years ago.

VR will only be a good thing if they also deliver extra hardware. I mean seeing your favourite actress in VR is one thing, but the next step would be... ;)
Reminds me about my thread Maid-droids and host-droids - the future? :D

By the end of this coming week I hope to have some homebrew poor man's VR with a nice POV clip. Won't be spectacular I'm sure but I'd imagine it will be a neat little gimmick. Interesting how the official DMM Cardboard has a single lenses!

Would be nice if you would give us a little review about your experience. :)

Hello R18.com. :) Thanks for the information, but we already know. ;)
I had a look at it. But it's not really VR, it's just a 360° movie. :( As far as I have seen you can't move around or anything else. Feels - like I already posted - like these 360° QuickTime movies long long ago...
I hope DMM, it's studios and partners will come up with real VR for "real" VR equipment (not the Google Cardboard or anything simple like) in the future. :)

I didnt say it is VR. I said it is for cardboard. :p

You can move around the scenes, you just need to move you mobile like you were looking somewhere else.

"Real VR" is not an option yet as people still does not have the devices to watch it so there is no market you sell it yet.

I go to all the adult conventions overseas and meet with great adult companies working on VR. It is cool but it has no market so far.

Lets see if Facebook make an Oculus in everyone's house :)

* Disclaimer: I have ordered some FAVOLCANO VR glasses/headset from eBay (so I hope that’s what I actually get!) and should receive them late this week so I haven’t actually field tested this, but…

CodeGeek, just so you (and others) know I installed a Free app called AAA VR Cinema for Android and I was able to view the DMM VR 360 videos by selecting the 360 option for viewing. The app does display the image as two and indeed when I spun around in my chair I was able to view all around me. So, basically, if you look at it in a player like we used to in QuickTime, yes, you would only be seeing the picture sweeping by in a loop. At least so far it looks like you’ll be able to turn your head to see what’s behind you. I’ll know more when I get my headset.

On a similar note, I won’t get that experience with what I’m going to try, but I’m hoping the effect will be worth it. I hear so much about things looking HUGE in these types of glasses. That in itself is worth it even if I can’t get any poor man’s VR going.

But, yeah, VR for now will only be "apps" like completely CG games but not video .

Cheers!

That's the point: Also you get the stereo-view (and therefore 3D) it's not really VR. You can't move around freely. It's like this VR on my Wii U in which I get a tour of Kyoto which is more like a moving panorama view. But I'm not sure if it would be ever possible to change that. So I guess the best you get is some kind of POV experience.

It is a bit more complicated that what it looks to do so.

To be able to move around freely you need to film with cameras and good light from every angle but you dont want to see the cameras and lights at same time...

i don't quite get the point of doing it at all with a single cardboard lens, though. naughty america's 3D POV stuff is pretty great with a cheap cardboard setup, turns out (thanks for the recommendations in this thread!).

you don't need to move freely — just seeing it in 3D with head-tracking is the thing.

Poor Man’s VR Update

I got my headset in early. Last night I tried and wasn’t happy with my scripted SBS video I had ready. Maybe one or two angles looked nice, but no dice. Was more than half expecting that, though. I DO NOT want to view anything specifically designed as 3D like that Mia clip because it will shatter whatever small enjoyment I hope to get out of something I can create from JAV, because…there aren’t any 3D versions of the JAV titles I would want to see. But tonight I will try some tweaking. Didn’t have time but I think I at least need to tweak the values for it to stretch a bit more. That’s what’s supposed to give the illusion of depth. I played around with this app and that app (listed below) and even paid for one ($4.99 via Paypal, so, not bad).

I can say, however, watching just a normal 2D video was actually a good experience. The video was a clip from a 720x404 SD title. Now, if I had viewed that in full screen on my monitor I would have been reminded just how SD it is. Fuzziness, blurred movements occasionally, detail degradation…I’m sure we’ve all experienced that. But viewing with the headset it was like watching a nice picture rather close to a big screen TV. Really a huge difference. I’m excited to try some other clips from other titles. So far I’m only clipping scenes where something (from the actress) is up at the camera and in your face. I also tried a clip from one of the new Knights Visual titles. That looked pretty cool as well. Basically the apps have to be set to show a single video and it creates the SBS view on the fly. But, just two normal pictures side by side, I don’t think it adjusts anything.

And now…the Cinema experience. You’ll notice almost all the free ones I tried have the word “Cinema” in it. That’s because they pretty much try to simulate sitting in a movie auditorium. You know, to give you the feeling you’re watching on the big screen. It seems kind of interesting, but, I lost interest in that novelty kind of soon. Why? Because like a movie theater, you have to keep looking in the direction of the screen. No different here. Then there is something calling “drifting” where you seemingly remain still looking at the screen and before you know it you’re having to turn your head to see it straight on again until you find you’re all messed up. I’m sure there are settings to handle that but it was frustrating so I gave up on that. I don’t care about Cinema, I want JAV nice and big. No theater seats or lights. Hell, you can even turn all the way around and see the projector. No thanks. I’d rather put on the headset and sit back or lay back and see the picture dead center in front of me. Also, to be able to use headphones I had to turn my phone upside down and let the app adjust the screen. The opening for the line is at the bottom, but (upright) my headphone jack was at the top.

Thank you xvii32 for the important tip about just watching a video in your favorite player with the headset! Now I have another test for tonight. Use the same SBS video from before using VLC on m HTC with the headset. It is the lenses, not the app, that blends the two images. Maybe the apps are doing something else and not just displaying the already SBS video. I’ve also ordered another headset from a different company on eBay. Just got the shipped email a moment ago. These have different lenses other than oval, they are Aspherical instead of Normal Spherical. Something about distortion vs. no distortion, the Aspherical providing no distortion. Maybe I’ll have a better experience with those. I’m using these on my HTC One.

Free Apps I tried:
AAA VR Cinema
VR Cinema
Cardboard Theater
Go4D 2.2D Player Pro (needs Go4D World to launch)

Purchased:
VR Player

All of this, of course, is my experience with my gear. I may create a thread in the Other Downloads sub forum where I will post some of the samples I’m trying. Maybe others will have better viewing experiences with their gear. And hopefully others will post their efforts at getting JAV inside our heads. (…headsets, that is.)
