I think Netflix and porn are different things.
I don't mind DRM in Netflix, because the experience is the same with or without DRM. If you don't want to pirate (and I don't), DRM is not at issue with Netflix.

But porn is different. I don't pay for streaming with porn because I don't want to stream every time I watch porn and I don't want R18 (or other) and my ISP register every time I watch porn. It is a private and personal activity and I don't want everybody register and spy my activity every time I watch porn. So I only pay for downloads.

Another question is the experience. I only watch JAV VR and the experience with the streaming of JAV VR at R18, A Festa, SexLikeReal is awful because your PC VR players are very bad quality. The image quality is mediocre, you can't use supersampling in PC, the zoom is very basic and there are not options to adjust the diameter of the image. I always see the girls like giants even with the limited zoom.

The only solution for me is to buy and download the movies and play them with a good player with supersampling and a lot of options to adapt the image to my eyes, like Whirligig. And the only one that accepts this is A Festa VR. So I have spent more than 500 euros buying JAV VR movies at A Festa VR in the last months. I would like to do the same at R18 because I want to pay for the JAV VR I like, but you don't want to download movies to a PC. And with the actual quality of your PC VR player, it is impossible.

I can accept DRM because I don't pirate the movies, but I can't pay for a experience with awful PC VR players when the "free" or the bought-and-downloaded versions looks much, much better with better players.

The reality it is possibly you don't mind PC VR users... You are only interested in smartphones users...

I see, the case you mention is mainly for VR movies.
We still have work to do for VR movies as we do not support Downloads yet.
Also offer all the movies without DRM is something that will not be possible as some of the biggest studios will not allow to sell their movies without DRM.

We need to keep working on VR to make the user have a good experience even having DRM.
For the VR case the biggest issue we see right now is that because we are an adult site we are not allowed by Facebook to submit our customized app to Oculus store to be able to work on oculus devices or Samsung Gear VR. So in one hand we need to complain with Studios that want to keep their movies with DRM and in the other hand we need to complain with the VR platform owners to be able to submit the apps.

We will keep working to improve the VR experience.

If I look around at porn sites most have no DRM. If the sites have any limitations at all it's an "all access" model that allows you to stream all you want with a set number of DRM free downloads per day, week and month (depends on the site).

In terms of traditional media like movies... physical media is easily attainable and available to users as an alternative to Netflix, Amazon and others giving you an offline copy that cannot be revoked after you purchase and "own" it.

Buying a physical copy for JAV is also possible especially if you're in Japan but not practical for anyone living outside of Japan given the unwillingness of major Japanese retailers to ship pornography outside of Japan (understandable) and the cost of smaller boutique import/export businesses who offer the service is often high if they offer it all....

I have a fairly large R18 collection, it would be nice if DRM was removed or lessened somehow especially since everything seems to escape on torrents but I doubt that's likely to happen. I agree with @Walle12 for certain things like VR it would be super helpful if that specifically had less DRM or more player options so you can fine tune it. I don't watch VR porn but I do play VR games and so much comes down to adjusting settings.

Yeah I appreciate there's not much you can do about DRM. And censored JAV does have a lot more DRM including for Japanese audiences. I was talking more about porn in general and popular paid Western porn sites. R18.com does offer subscription channels were you can download/stream as much as you want from the subscribed channel also.

What is the point of DRM, if the movies are pirated in hours or days? Stores like A Festa VR accept it and sell movies without DRM. Yes, not the big studios (well, I think SoD is a big studio and it is DRM-free), but the big studios need to understand the only people who are bothered by DRM are the people that just want to buy and download movies without pirating it, and we can't. The people that don't pay for movies can download them free of DRM in hours.

Nonetheless I could accept DRM if I can download and play it with the same quality that free or cheap players like Whirligig. Something like Steam where you can download and play with DRM.

But actually the PC VR player of all the stores, all of them, give us much lower quality than free PC players. And not only quality, in VR is very important options to adjust the image to your IPD.

Facebook is an evil company that spies everything. I don't use and never will use Oculus. I use Samsung Odyssey Plus (Windows Mixed Reality). You could download your app on Steam, they accept adult content and it works with Oculus, WMR, Valve Index and all the PC glasses.

Yes, they use DRM and that is okay for their streaming service. I pay a monthly fee to get access to a huge amout of titles.
What is not okay is that I don't own the movies that I pay for on Amazon Video. So I don't do that, I would buy the DVD or Blu-Ray.

I store and collect all my JAV in my own privately curated Emby Server. I can access this server with every device I own in my household.
If I buy a title on r18.com it is missing from my private collection and I can not add it. That is the reason why DRM bothers me.

I'm a collector of JAV and DRM makes it impossible to collect certain titles. I guess Lodestar summed it up pretty nicely. If I wanted to collect normal Movies I could just buy the DVD or the Blu-Ray but I'm denied this possibility because I can't import them from Japan.
It is already difficult to buy only "downloadable content" from Japan because most sites block foreign credit cards.

Netflix is not a good example because they don't sell movies and like I mentioned above I also don't give Amazon Video my money for the same reason I don't give you my money because I only get access to a DRM protected video file.

Did you noticed the camera icon next to the search bar on the R18.com top bar?
Yes! it is an image search for JAV!

We have noticed many people asking "who is the girl in this image?" or "what is this movie id?" etc.
For so we have created an image search were you can upload that contains a face and we will give you back results with the products that looks similar to the face found in the image.

some use cases are:
- Want to know products from a girl/actress
- Want to know the name of an actress.
- Want to know some other Japanese girl that looks similar.

Have you ever wonder if any idol that you like have done porn before? well, upload an image of her and we will let you know if we have her movies, in worst case you will find other girls that looks like her

When i search for an actress i often look for those videos that will give me the best bang for my buck. There are 4h and 16h categories but they don't include many other good titles with good lenghts. Could be a good improvement over the dmm site

Thank you for opening this thread and taking user suggestions. There are a couple of things that I would like to see in the R18 website. I don't know if this has been mentioned here, I don't follow this thread as I didn't use R18 much until now.

1. Lack of tool-tips. In the search result page, if I want to see the title or code of the JAV, I need to open up the particular page to find it. If you could add tool-tips to the search results that would list the title at least, it would be very helpful. Preferably, the tooltip will show CODE - TITLE.
   eg: MIDE-877 - The H-Cup Colossal Tits Elder Sister Type Who Lives Next Door Is Luring Me To Temptation With Panty Shot Action And Gave Me Nookie Every Day Fumika Nakayama
   
   
2. Similarly, lack of tool-tips in the series listing pages. When I browse the series listings, I need to open another page for a particular series in order to see the whole series title. Preferably when you click on the series image/whitespace of the series (see highlighted portion of example image 1), you would have something similar to what akiba-online has for when you click on user profiles/post preview while in a thread - a mini popup (see example image 2 & 3).

3. Number of search results. Every-time I do a search, I need to manually change it from showing only 30 results to show 120 results per page. It's annoying to have to do it always. You should be able to save search result preferences.

4. Adding and removing categories etc in search results. Modern websites are responsive. When I go to a site, do a search and change search parameters, it will refresh the results without having to reload the page. On your website however, the page reloads every-time I add or remove a search parameter as per the right hand side options in the search page allow me to (see example image 5). This needs to be changed.

I hope you take these suggestions into consideration. If I have not made anything clear enough here, please ask I will try to clarify as best I can. These are my suggestions for now, I will let you know if I have anything more.

So the issue with some purchased downloaded FHD video quality being restricted to a lower bitrate of 4000kbps compared to the same web streaming FHD video available at 6000kbps is still present it seems.

For XV-1144, download file has max bitrate of 4000kbps

and the stream version has max bitrate of 6000kbps


XV-1156, download option of max bitrate 4000kbps

and the stream has max bit rate of 6000kbps


rather than post more screencaps with the same issues I'll just list the other movies I've noticed so far affected with the same problem.
