This happen in china I think. I think she's working in shanghai nowadays and shanghai is on par with tokyo and New York in term of lifestyle. Also, Chinese sort of have that anti Japanese mindset especially the older folks that aren't like in to the otaku stuff and is empowering them to be superior to those that looked down and humiliated them in the past like Taiwanese, Hong Kong people, and Japanese because of politic.
It range from people to people. Also, I'm speaking on experience. I've seen quite a few rude Chinese tourists crowding the tourist spots in Japan and they speak some bulgur stuffs because they have money now. Also, the japanese working there kind of took it since they're trying to keep it respectful. Chinese is a big spender on foreign products ranging from luxury to small product because a lot of the mindset of Chinese goods are cheap and unsafe. Yes, most factories are in china, but they chose to buy foreign goods. Oh yeah, no more politics here, okay?
