princeali692: it's not the laws. Legally USA is even freer with porn than Japan. It's more of banks and card companies fear of lawsuits over 'obscenity' that has made western porn so tame. Want to blame someone? Blame far right religious organizations with too much free time led by people who definitely have a lot of creepy files on their computer (those most against porn generally are hiding some sick fetishes or representing those that do IMO).

Yea there is also religious element that lobby against porn as well. But there are many factors that put the US industry at a disadvantage. Part of it though I believe is just lack of creativity. It's not so much that there isn't enough piss porn for me or stuff like that, there just isn't enough niche/fetish material in general. For example agemix label has a lot of blowjob focused movies, but many of them focus on different aspects like focusing on a certain noise, or a certain action like self irrumatio. Or like an Anal Licking School movie that is 120 minutes all about two girls eating man ass. You just do not see that stuff in the US and stuff like that can totally be made. The only mainstream American studio that I am aware of that puts forth any effort is Evil Angel, and they have a couple fine directors whos work I appreciate. But 90% of the rest is just garbage in my opinion.

I blame a big part of it on piracy and lack of creativity. I do not believe the industry makes nearly as much money anymore. Also, many studios have been bought up by a corporation called MindGeek who also own most of the porn tube sites. Their business model is basically buy these studios and so they keep producing porn that they can put upload to the free tube sites for views Sounds like a great idea but most of the sites they own really aren't at all that diverse with genres. I just don't see as much diversity in the US industry when it comes to niches and genres. I mean a site like Brazzers is pretty lame and cookie cutter if you ask me. With their cookie cutter scenes and terrible acting.

Also, it isn't just right wing groups trying to kill porn in the US, its also the Democratic party in California pushing their condom law regulations in the name of "worker safety". I hate looking at condoms and I prefer not to watch condom porn, unless its about girls eating cum out of one but they rarely ever do that in the US because they lack creativity. I give it a pass in JAV since the dicks are blurred most of the time so I don't have to notice if I don't want to.

Then again I could just have the wrong perception. I have been watching JAV for a long time now so I might be biased in what I am seeing. I also don't understand Japanese nearly well enough to notice the atrocious acting. But overall there is more to do and see in the world of JAV compared to the US industry. I like to say once you get over the censorship it opens a whole new world.

I work in the Japanese industry but push content towards western audiences so I see both sides of the equation (though my industry contacts are 85% from the Japanese side of things). I agree that creativity's not so hot in the west. Most mainstream paysites may sometimes push with 'unique' ideas, but at the end of the day the scene (yea scene as they almost never make full movies) devolve into that silly O-face and soul-less sex. There definitely is more at stake than just strict religious groups of course. Though I think it may be heresy to say it, but at the end of the day sex sells and what sites like Brazzers are producing may seem empty to hardcore fans of JAV (basically the people who post on porn forums), but it probably sells. As much as I love strange JAV and JAV with big storylines, I feel that most people be it in Japan and the west simply prefer seeing attractive people having sex. That's what's popular overall and it's why Mind Geek's sites stick to that formula.

Regarding prop 60 (the no condom harassment law in California), condoms actually have been required for some time there. That law still hasn't really been enforced and one wacko is trying hard to push harder to enforce it hence prop 60: if OSHA doesn't handle no-condom violations within 21 days or so, individual people can open up lawsuits with this wacko (whose name I won't say) being the de facto representative. Thus this law would give him a cushy job being something of a porn czar. What's more, if the actors/actresses involved also acted as producers (which is more common in the west), then their real information including names and addresses would be available to the public. That would be a stalker's dream come true and I hope it never happens.

When I went about seeing whether there was anything more to DICKSHARK, I wound up at the IMDb; on the movie's page, there were a bunch of other movies that, while not outright porn, had JAVvy sounding plots. The director of DICKSHARK is a guy named Bill Zebub (Get it? "Beelzebub"), and he writes the plot descriptions for at least some of his own movies. (On his own page, he has given himself the immodest nickname, "King of the B-Movies.")

Garbage sexploitation/horror has usually been the closest we could get in Western cinema to the world of JAV... I have not been keeping track of the latest of what could be called "Psychotronic" fare, but some of the other titles I've come across sound pretty cool in their descriptions. (Although the odds are the viewing experience would probably be a struggle, with most.)

A reviewer writes about another Bill Zebub "masterpiece" called ANTFARM DICKHOLE (2011): "...A man masturbating a lot and shooting ants from his penis to get revenge." (Not much porn-ey about that concept, but you've got to admit... wretchedly original.)

"for better or worse ... likely contributed to the film's unexpected success at the box office."

Given our talk about the rarity of r*** depictions in Western cinema (we are emphasizing Western porn, naturally, but I'd say this avoidance of the ugly subject is across-the-board), I found it interesting that a rare time the topic does pop up in the movies, it results in so much attention. That is only logical, we may presume, because if a topic is treated so gingerly most of the time... more interest is going to be drawn once the topic is explored. A link in the article to this other article entitled, "The Number 1 Movie in America Is Casually About r***" has the expected (but fairly-written) veiled and not-so-veiled criticism that the movie brushes with misogny (if my interpretation was correct, I'd say that is a pretty simplistic conclusion), and the ending line argues that the r*** issue is... common in cinema ..?? Some great points made. It clearly isn't because of a lack of demand for this kind of stuff, and i can imagine is why we have turned to JAV. I don't even watch much western porn at all so can't even contribute any proper comparisons between the two markets. Every time i do look over on western porn forums, there's nothing that interests me or stands out particularly. I think a lot of it is down to the look of the actresses. They just go down the whole bimbo, over inflated boobs and face botoxed to shit look.

Obviously, this is just a generalisation because there are a still a lot of pretty, natural looking girls in the industry but i just can't be bothered because i know the stuff they do will just be the same as it always it is. The big problem is i just don't have the time to watch both so i always choose JAV over western porn because i know it will be easier to find something i enjoy.

It featured two super cute actresses, but one had this *huge* zit on her the base of her chin (think the wart on a chin some witches have--same position and size...). It was at the popping stage too yet there it was and no amount of concealer could hide it. I wish they either rescheduled or had her just put a band-aid on it. Given the theme, a band-aid would have worked too.

Can't disagree with you there. Moles, spots, zits and any other blemishes can be hugely distracting. I mean, i understand these things happen and is part of the natural way of life, but boy can it be a turn off. Porn is fantasy, and any small imperfection can ruin the scene, no matter how insignificant. I think jugulear had a thread about ass bruises or something or other, which is just another thing that can be off putting. No one wants to see bruises, just like no one wants to see spots.

Again off topic of the thread, but i want to direct you to this movie i spoke about over here. It's not JAV, but is a movie by a former JAV director about the goings on behind the scenes of a shoot.

There is a scene where two actresses come in, and because they have no make up on, the make up artist doesn't recognize them at all from their head-shots that she was given. She just thought they were part of the crew.

I've been looking at more Russian porn lately, and I see some similarities with JAV. The girls generally are more beautiful and natural compared to Western porn, just very high quality girls. I don't need to count the pores on her cheeks, nor stare down Hibiki Otsuki's acne scars (she's got 'em kinda bad if you know where to look), and I certainly don't wanna find OCD kicking in when I start counting all the sukebe hokuro's (go ahead and translate this one ) many AV stars seem to possess.

I don't think i have even seen anything in 4k so can't really comment, but i understand what you're saying. In many ways watching hi def movies is better, just because having a better quality image is much more preferential but, as you say, the negative is that sometimes you get just a little too much detail. I'm not that excited about the whole 4k thing (maybe perhaps because i haven't seen it in action), but it seems to be the way things are going so i'm sure JAV will be there soon.
