The Following

Monday Night

The Following

Original is rare, especially in cop shows. Seen one seen them all but not this one people. Starring Kevin Bacon, of all people, this is one to watch. Is it good? To be honest I am not sure but as a long time Kevin Bacon fan, the man is an artist, I am willing to give this one some rope. If the network does not do its' usual best to strangle this show to death with inane ideas and politically correct writing this show might have some real potential.

"The Following" -- The FBI estimates there are currently over 300 active serial killers in the United States. What would happen if these killers had a way of communicating and connecting with each other? What if they were able to work together and form alliances across the country? What if one brilliant psychotic serial killer was able to bring them all together and activate a following?

When serial killer Joe Carroll escapes from death row, the FBI calls on Ryan Hardy, the former agent who put him behind bars nine years earlier. While the team starts out thinking of Hardy as a liability, he proves his worth when he figures out that Carroll had been communicating with a network of killers while he was in prison and that they were planning more than just his escape. When Carroll's intended last victim from before his incarceration is kidnapped, it becomes clear that the psychopath means to finish what he started.

Welcome to The Following, the psychological thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson ("The Vampire Diaries," "Dawson's Creek," the "Scream" franchise) and starring Golden Globe winner and Emmy Award nominee Kevin Bacon in his primetime series debut.

Kevin Bacon................ as Ryan Hardy
James Purefoy............. as Joe Carroll
Natalie Zea.................. as Claire Matthews
Annie Parisse............... as FBI Specialist Debra Parker
Shawn Ashmore........... as Agent Mike Weston
Valorie Curry............... as Emma
Adan Canto.................. as Paul
Nico Tortorella.............. as Jacob
Kyle Catlett.................. as Joey Matthews

Toon Time

Good western toons I have been watching:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:

On Nickeloden not sure what night, (I donwload it from TPB like most everything else). Funny, good action and good music. Much more than I expected and I enjoy every episiode.

Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness:

More Nickeloden, also funny with decent action. Funny is good.

Young Justice

From Cartoon network. I used to read comic books when I was a kid, now I get to watch them. It is actually rated PG which is pretty racy for a US made cartoon.

TRON: Uprising

Disney studios....well you would think they would at least produce one toon worth watching and this is it. Great story lines and graphics, I never miss an episode.

Thx for the input ane-san I will check it out although more appears not to be an option. I really don't know what unrealistic payoff the bean counters were expecting but they didn't get it.

"Many SPACE Channel fans were deeply disappointed to learn of the unannounced internal decision by Bell Media – (Twitter: @BellMediaPR) to not renew Borealis following its pilot episode which aired on SPACE (Twitter: @SPACEchannel) this past weekend."

Top of the Lake is a TV mini-series from New Zealand starring Elizabeth Moss and Guest Starring Holly Hunter. Kind of hard to get as eztv doesn't carry it, (but ettv does!). If you can get a hold of a copy of the show, try it.

Interesting plot: A detective investigates the disappearance of a 12-year-old pregnant daughter of a local drug lord. (and detectives in New Zealand are nothing like their counterparts in the USA, thankfully).

Has a 7.4 rating from IMDB

So did you like it or not? The accents were good enough for me or at the very least unimportant to the storyline so as they went unnoticed.

A good indication that a television show is interesting is that you watch it more than once....just to see what happens next.

I have recently stopped watching quite a few shows myself, for various reasons. I stopped watching Spartacus for example, because the writing and dialogue just got too indigestable for my palate. That was a tough decision for me because the occasional nudity is usually first rate and there is never a show short of action sequences and gore but Julius Caesar getting r***ing was a bit much for me.

Speaking of action The History Channel, (which I generally abhor because their versions of history are usually colored and inaccurate), has produced a winner by the name of Vikings which appears on Sunday nights, ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2306299/ ). While the historic accuracy is of course questionable the acting is topnotch and I have enjoyed the storylines and action. A bit of a pity they don't have a bigger budget, ( don't expect to see huge armies fighting one another here), but they do well with what they have.

Orphan Black is a new program on Saturday nights that I would suggest as having "potential" and worth looking at. I like it so far. It is on BBC America, apparently, ( I get it from eztv).

Short summary: Street girl sees a woman who looks like her jump in front of a train and steals her purse and her identity to escape her own life. Little does she know what a mess she has stepped into.

Agree. The problem with tv shows based on movie characters is you already have preconceptions on who and what the character should be. That is a lot for any actor/writer/director to live up to, Anthony Hopkins performance of Hannibal that is. They, of course, fell miserably short. That isn't to say the show did not have its' moments but I do not know if the show can hold my interest long enough to get interested in the storyline and characters. Besides, I have my fill of serial killers at the moment watching The Following, (Kevin Bacon is better on an off day than most actors are on their best).

Of course some tv shows break all the rules and pull off something....surprising and unexpected. Bates Motel, (yes that motel), is a gem to watch. I wasn't not even going to consider watching this, I have seen every Psycho movie ever made, ( big horror fan), and making a show about a young Norman Bates and his mother just seemed ....dumb. There was only one Hitchcock and only one Anthony Perkins. Alas, I was swayed by rave reviews by my peers to give the show a try. The acting is first rate, as is the directing and so far the writing. It is intriguing, contemporary, has young hotties, tabboo sex appeal, suspense and yes....there might even be a murder or two. Bravo A&E, bravo (try not to kill this show to early please).

I'll never forget (probably because it was one of the stupidest things i have ever heard someone say) a girl i lived with saying "He was much better looking in the book", talking about a book to movie production.

while hannibal rising and, red dragon was it? werent bad, the absence of hopkins was glaring...there is nothing and noone that can fill those shoes.

will check out bates hotel though. im not much of a horror fan but if you recommend it so highly then it is likely worth checking out.

im wondering if mad men is coming back. wasnt that A&E?

and, the following is great isnt it? i think you put me on to that onetoo.

Lots to comment on there.

Yes: "He was much better looking in the book" is a pretty stupid thing to say but I actually understand the sentiment. Books appeal to the imagination through the written word, giving descriptions and content you just cannot include in a cinematic presentation. So an ideal presented in a book can very well fall short when put on the screen. This why Shakespeare was done again and again, a play, ( or movie, tv show, etc.), is merely an interpertation of the written word. An actor can indeed fall short of expectations in this context, (eg: Michael Keaton as Batman).

Yes, Hannibal is loosely based on The Red Dragon timeline/Book I believe. It was the only one of the series I remember reading. Decent book.

I hope you enjoy Bates Motel but personal tastes can always differ.

Mad Men is on AMC and starts back 4/14/13....next week on Sunday night at 10pm. I admit I have not watched that yet. I don't know why. Perhaps I will download the first season one day and give it a go. It does get good reviews. It was accidently released early and you can catch it now at eztv.it or wherever you download your favorite shows.

The Following has its' moments and the villians are well portrayed. I have never seen Kevin Bacon in a movie where I disliked his performance but sometimes he seems a bit flat in this show. Could be the writing or he may be having trouble with the rigors of filming a television series, he has acted in movies for quite a few decades and many a movie actor will refuse to do a tv series. Yet when he is on, he really shines in this show. He makes a great villian too, when he wants, (Hollow Man where he is the best Invisible Man ever is a good example), but he is well cast as the Hero because it is the most difficult part in this show to play.

Thx for letting me ramble on about one of my favorite subjects! :)
