In the end, for me... looks like the excitement comes more from the collecting process than the content itself.

Interesting. Is this software you wrote? Can you share it?
yes it's a private repo... I don't think I'll make it open source. Distribution under any kind of license would mean providing some kind of support for it and I can't do that right now...

I definitely collect way more than I watch, but when I feel like it I pick something at random to watch from what I downloaded and with such a large variety of choice, I know there's something new I can watch basically forever, even after I stop downloading new stuff.

The JAV file quality has taken a big nose dive recently so I cut back on downloading a ton since many have a quality so low I would never watch them.

Ouch- that hurts! Me all over. I have more JAV saved up than I could possibly watch
Yeah, my collection is meager by the standards of this site but the total length of all the videos I have (according to Stash) is 1 month, 2 weeks, and 4 hours.

5357h of runtime or 7.5 months... probably still in the junior league here lol

my basic scenario is, I sit down to actually browse my collection with a clear goal to watch something, enter an actress page and go "wow I love this girl, anything else from her?" or "man I love this theme need to dig into it" and boom, I'm in searching mode again. 10mn of watching, 3h of searching. Crazy stuff, probably need a shrink..
About the quality, not sure what ur referring to. Average file size I dowload is around 6GB, I can't complain about the encoding.. what's the issue?

I used to check 141Jav weekly and downloaded from that site until I realized the average file size was 6GB. Now I go on the site to discover new titles but use SupJav to download since average file size is 1.5GB with acceptable quality.

I may have misunderstood but the average file size on supjav is definitely not 1.5 for regular studios. Maybe the 30mn amateur prods?
1.5gb are usually 720p, can be found on other sites though

I think he's talking about the stream captures? That's about the size for the StreamTape versions at least.

I normally check out the trailers or if the title of the movie is something crazy id check it out. I normally check debuts and first couple of movies to see if a girl is worth the follow. Now debuts trailers dont show anything but the girls waving now lol. Also, i watched alot of the movies when I bought the unlimited pass from r18. I probably seen every video from Center Village, First Star, K-Tribe Moody and Kawaii from 2016 upwards.

The average bitrate of most movies used to be about 5750-6000 for the video, but nowadays they don't decrypt them anymore, they re-encode them and sometimes the bitrate can dip in the 3000, which is horrible for 1080p and even when the bitrate is decent, it's often hardware encoding that was used, which makes for visibly worse quality than it should for the same bitrate if it wasn't(or at least if it wasn't a hardware encode of an hardware encode since I assume DMM and stuff is hardware encoding as well).
This is an example of what 4000 bitrate can look like on a complex scene where the encoder freaks out(especially visible on the couch) because it doesn't have enough bits to work with(it's an animation and this forum doesn't support webp, hence the external link): https://ibb.co/KpkskbCW

There's also a lot of 64KBps aac audio these days and that's so low it hurts my ears because of the effect compression has on it. Even 30 years ago the audio didn't sound that bad and we had dial-up internet.

It's very random though, some are fine for both video an audio and some are horrible for maybe just one of them or less often both for some reason, it's very weird.
Anything below 5000 video bitrate and 128 for the audio I just refuse to download because it'll look or sound too bad for me to want to watch it. A good SD rip from a DVD is going to look better.

Last 3 flix I downloaded from supJ... look at the bitrate. I browsed a few random movies from my collection...bout the same. I'm not a hardliner on audio so that wouldn't be the kind of data I would persist... but generally speaking I'm not experiencing these issues. Just saying...

Supjav add their own watermark so they always re-encode no matter what, which means lower quality than the source regardless of the bitrate they use. I know they used to take 6000 bitrate inputs and make them 10000 at one point, which just limits the quality loss and waste space, so who knows what they do now. I avoid downloading from them because of the watermark, which I can't stand.

Here's an example of a movie I was thinking of downloading on monday, but the video quality was below 4000 and the audio atrocious so I didn't: https://www.akiba-online.com/thread...and-i-caused-everyone-some-inconveni.2286597/
The .com for supjav seems broken atm, not sure if that's still the official since there's a bunch looks like so can't compare, but most places have the same input as a source usually.

holy crap, that's right they can reencode whatever shit they want in whatever bitrate they choose, my bad. When I personally reencode, I make sure to somehow stick to the original bitrate (probe the original first then bracket the encoding bitrate), I took that for granted.
And yep, .com seems to have issues right now...
