Due to time constraints I am once again nearing the capacity of an external HDD and have yet to view / determine what to keep and what to dump. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation what do you do?

Thankfully Ryushare seems to hang on to uploads a lot better then other hosts, so it would be relatively safe to halt all downloads for a bit so I can go through things. That was my issue in the past. I'd hold off on getting something and it was gone when I got around to it.

It's the FHD stuff that's getting me. Great stuff but big on size.

What to do...:puzzled: :scared:

I always have a similar problem. I split (and hide :thief:) them between multiple external HDD, while storing other stuff.

I personally don't bother with HD stuff, as file sizes are too big of a burden on the internet connection and storage. Some stuff I compress/convert the file or cut parts off such as the previews.

Funny enough I don't download as much as I used to. I'm more picky now and screenshots are a real help, as I don't want to waste time :notagain:

I tend to buy a bigger drive if that happens. However, now that I have two 2TB drives, I shouldn't get this problem again in quite a while.

I used to have that problem, but it receded once I learned to hoard less. Some vids, the girl's real hot, but the action is underwhelming. Others have great covers but the actual product is crap. This is gonna sound hilarious, but I have used the same approach to buying stuff and tidying my house, I've learnt to spend more wisely and my house is less cluttered now. See, JAV isn't just a hobbie, it's a way of life, like Bushido.

I've managed to keep my 500gb external hard drive 60-70gb free, and 50gb free on my computer.

I am the opposite of je666; I loved HD the moment I laid eyes on it, I've gone out of my way to get HD vids of my favourite titles I have in standard def, the difference is immense. Hard drives keep getting cheaper, so I'm waiting till I really run out of space to get a 2TB or something.

I getting there. I have a 2TB Storage.

As picky as I am, I am still watching videos slower than DLing it. I need to change that or my stash will continue to grow.

I have a 3TB HDD and only a third is porn. I tend to go on delete sprees where I remove anything that is sub-par compared my favorites. Only the best remains!... or something like that:joker:

Also, when picking stuff to download screenshots, definitely help a LOT. Covers are mostly made to be misleading.
These days I go to link for screenshots since they have loads of stuff with auto-loading server-hosted spam-free images. I don't use the links there though (afterwards look for RyS links).
I'm sure there's lots of alternatives, though.

Totally agree, main reason I started being picky and use screenshots. Used to collect almost all videos of fav actresses, but looking back some of their vids weren't that good.

Being picky I used to be like qwerty07, but recently I've found myself watching them quicker than I'm DLing. Even with screenshots sometimes the stuff I DL, I don't think its worth keeping.

I need to do more what Flammz is doing, and do more delete sprees. Too lazy and would need to update the records on my spreadsheets (can't keep track when you have multiple HDDs). :donotwant:

I've got 2 2tb drives full and some. I've also cut back on downloading, first when my ISP put a cap on monthly bandwidth usage, then when files started getting larger. It has to be something I really want before I'll go over 1 to 1.5 GB for a 90 min or under video. My problem with clearing out old stuff that I don't want is there is so much that trying to go through it would take forever, so I just delete poor videos when I come across them. The other problem is I'm kind of hoardish when it comes to pics and videos. Especially sets, I've got to get them all. I have spent quite some time to complete vid/picutres sets just to delete them once the set was complete:exhausted:.

I have done the same. Collected complete sets of things and then dumped them. Seems a waste...but it just happens.

And grow it will. I have only downloaded 3 things in the last three days. Extreme, probably, but I'm holding out for just a bit longer.

Covers can be a real problem. They look awesome and amazing but are usually not what you get. It's a bit discouraging to see a great cover then the screenshots are nothing like it. I'd almost be happier if JAV titles came with HD photo shoot pics.

JAV changing lives! Haha! I love that.

You've inspired me. I haven't gone on a deleting spree in quite some time. Usually I delete the bad encodes

What I REALLY need to do is what I used to do years ago. I would split each title into their scenes, ditching most of the opening logos and the trailing ads at the end. Just logical start and stop points for each scene. Then I would delete the scenes I didn't like.

Now...I stopped doing that because I had this crazy idea of encoding titles to 60fps and then uploading them to share. It was slightly obvious that most out there were used to a full title being uploaded and not split by scenes. But...the lack of interest lead me to post how I accomplish 60fps. Better to let those who would like to give it a try have a means to do it.

So, I think I'll go back to splitting scenes and dumping what I don't want. But I will always be grateful for those who upload these awesome pieces of JAV candy for us so that I can.

If you've seen my DDL posts...I never went back to splitting things. I found my head and dumped that idea.

About storage: HDD vs DVD (or Blu-ray)? I know they say blank media has a shelf-life and can eventually degrade over the years. But...at the same time you NEVER know when your HDD will suddenly up and die. Very unpredictable. A case of DVDs sitting on the shelf or desk? MUCH less likely to crash!

I have a 1TB drive that's almost at capacity. I'm thinking of transferring over to blank media. I KNOW! That will take forever. But a few weekends ought to do it. And things won't be as readily accessible as the drive sitting in the caddy. But at least all those titles will potentially be safe from catastrophe.

Does anyone store their ripped titles on DVD or other blank media besides hard drives?

Is this a good or bad idea?

500Mbit/500Mbit fiber connection with a dedicated line (no sharing on the line) and no data limit
Holy banana from the bahamas. I have cable and the maximum I'm able to get is 150/5MBit. :(
Back when I was at the university they even had only a 100MBit line - but that was more than 10 years. ;)
