well, i "prefer" DDL, but the preference is a bit conditioned ..... from the fact that i cannot use any type of torrent clients, from here, only emule :p

also, i never had problems with MU / MR ..... some little with RS ..... lots and lots of problems and not-working files with DF and FF, but these last two servers are well knowns for crap service and exagerate time-limits, so is ..... and no problems downloading from mediafire, also if their servers cause me some problems uploading .....

so, well, can say that i "prefer" DDL, :)

Torrents are more acceptable IMO. They don't cost me anything (other than my electric bill and DVD+Rs). The bad thing about torrents is that they need SEEDERS.. If the swarm's too small then you should already know that you're in for some very long waiting time. My usual work-around for slow download speeds (few seeders) would be to run 4 to 5 torrents at a time.. That way, I can maximize my allowable bandwidth.

RS & MU both offer fast speeds for me but it depends on whether I get a monthly premium account. The thing is, the service is NOT FREE. Downloading through these sites is only recommended if you actually have a job or if you're rich (begging money from your parents for you to spend makes you a loser). I download a lot rare JAVs and JAVs that have so little seeders (or have no seeders at all).

You can do that, fr0stbyte, but the trade-off is HDD longevity.

What you've described is what I used to do when I first started using BT. I bought a 40 GB hard drive (w/ laptop) in 2003; but less than two years after purchase, the drive was gone. It had been on its way out already, but I just didn't know it. There were warning signs -- anime files were quitting unexpectedly, hard drive seeks were taking way too long, but I thought I had a virus or malware. Eventually I did get a virus -- a trojan, one which visibly hijacked my system, replacing my desktop with a porn ad and redirecting my internet connection to a phishing site every 5 minutes -- and so I had to format the disk and start all over. That reformatting is what finally did the disk in. It just couldn't handle it. I installed my OS, I was up and running for 3 days, and then pow -- computer couldn't get past the BIOS.

This is just my own personal experience, so I won't push it as "fact." But when I asked my best friends (who were EEs, computer programmers, etc) what they thought was wrong, they all agreed that it was hard drive failure and once they learned that I was using BitTorrent, they all asked the same two questions:
  1. "How often do you use it?" ("Daily.")
  2. "How many torrents do you run at the same time?" ("About 4-5.")
My advice is that if you want to do this, by all means do! But only if if you are prepared for it, i.e. you can afford to swap in a new hard drive, you are very good about frequently backing up your data, etc. If you can't afford a new hard drive and you only have one, I would strongly advise against running more than one torrent at a time -- or against downloading more than one file at a time period. But that's just me. :eek:

Thanks for the advice Sakunyuusha. I appreciate it. I've been doing it for 1 to 2 years now. I'll be looking for the warning signs you've mentioned. I'll do more research on this.

On a side note, I can't see the "Quote" and "Reply" buttons along with the Avatars. Anyone else experiencing this?

@RahXephon

Sorry, the way I said it was wrong. I could use RS and MU for free, but there are certain disadvantages.. Like slower speeds (for me) and download timers (especially for RS).. I prefer to live without those hassles.. In short, I want convenience.
