hello, today i tried to seed a file but i made something wrong. i never made a torrent before and after downloading several things, i wanted to give something back to the forum.

at first i used this announce URL for creating the torrent:

http://torrent-downloads.to:5869/announce

then i chose the folder with the files i want to seed.

then i attached the generated torrent to my post:

http://www.akiba-online.com/forum/sh...234#post179234

now my azureus shows that torrent in my "complete"-list with 0 (1) seeds and 1 (1) peers. the (1) seed seems to be me and the 1 (1) peers seems to be 2 downloaders. one online and one offline that has already added the torrent.

did i miss something else? does that look right? i googled a bit and read several times that i also have to upload the torrent to some "trackers". is that right? which tracker?!

please give me a hand. thanks!

to see 1 seeder and 1 leecher is normal for Azureus/Vuze at the start of the active seeding mode (when there are no leechers yet), both are only you.

To add trackers you have to make a right mouse click on the torrent entry in the "complete list", choose extended, tracker, add tracker (you have to add them one by one in Azureus, in Bitcomet or uTorrent you could copy and paste the list...)

You must have one tracker minimum normally (otherwise you would seed by DHT only - if enabled - but Bitcomet/uTorrent and Azureus use different DHT protocols), but you should use about 3 trackers if one of them refuses connection.

here´s a list of free usable trackers...

thanks. there was somebody downloading that torrent completely so that there has to be another seed by now. but now all seeds and peers are 0 (0). i dont understand.

but it seems i did everything right. using some of these announce URLs does the job. no need to upload the torrent to any trackers right?

A supplementary question to Mihotaku's. Does adding trackers speed up the upload? I have one tracker http://torrent-downdoads.to:5869/announce (besides the akiba tracker which I understand is down). Would adding some of the trackers from redrooster's list speed up the upload of a torrent I am currently uploading. At the moment it looks like it will take about 4 days of almost continuous uploading to complete.

only one tracker can be bad if it refuses connection, it is never wrong to add as much open trackers as possible, normally I myself use 5 trackers. If there is still activity but no seeder to be seen the seeding works via DHT, when the person who issued the torrent has activated it...

Thanks for that. I created the torrent and I am the only seeder as it hasn't yet completed uploading. Uploading seems to be ok but it also seems slow. This is my first try at creating a torrent so I haven't anything to judge it by. I will add more trackers when I am next uploading.

i also add about 5 trackers in case one refuses connection then another one can connect. i dont think that more trackers will speed up UL.

speed rarely depends on the tracker, it´s just a question of download or upload speed depending on the internet connection speed of the seeders and leechers. If someone with a low upload speed is the only seeder it will last much longer as when he would have a high speed connection. Same goes for the leechers, do they have a fast connection they can leech faster if the seeder(s) is/are fast too - and the other way round of course - slow speed seeders make slow speed leechers...
