because 200 FOV is a pipedream, un
because 200 FOV is a pipe dream unless they can get it to work.
I havent done much reading on it... but there's already complaints that this is all BS. People asking Pimax if they can get it working by January 2018. etc. Pimax is saying dont worry, we can fix it. But people that have seen it are already complaining of 'stretching' and 'distortion'.
See this thread (2 weeks ago):

I tried a different headset with a claimed "increased FOV of 120 degrees... after the first seconds of 'yeah' its wider... I ditched it and went back to my limited 90 FOV because the image was more stable and natural. I kept seeing warping and objects would look weird when i moved my head. It actually made me sick because it felt like I was more in a fishbowl...I'll take my stable limited FOV anyday.
I am very sceptical, too. There is such a hype and so many hopes because of the numbers they provide.
Humans got a horizontal FOV of ca. 215 degree, Primax 8k is advertised with 200 FOV. That sound wow! But, I am not sure that these 2 values are measurements for the same thing and can be directly compared.
Looking on the demos and pictures of the Pimax 8k, I see no mirrors inside the HMD just usual Fresnel lenses. It's said there will be adapters for glassses, too. That's why I think the light from the panels will not hit the eyes from a 200 degree field, it will be focused by the HMD lenses upfront in your eye, there will be no natura
l peripheral vision. If the 200 degree FOV stand for displaying a 200 degree FOV of a scenary on a huge display in front of you than it's quite obvious that there will be distortions and it will resemble an unnatural view.
The whole thing looks sounds fantastic and like the step to next generation VR, high resolution, modules for hand tracking (without roomscale sensors), eye tracking,...
I will wait and see what early birds report when the thingy hits the market.
How will games support the extra FOV?
How much do I need to invest in more powerfull PC HW, is the current available high-end stuff even good enough?
Is it really worth it for upscaled VR Porn?
