I'm pretty selective in the performers I follow, so everything AV and IV all fit on one external drive. Some of the older stuff I have is also burned on dvd.
are you using a NAS? or just regular HDDQuite a few things have changed for me.
I have little normal JAV, but a LOT of JAV VR. That's what I have mostly moved to. Went ahead and bought a 20TB drive just for it, and about 1/4 of the way full. I have a 14TB drive for mostly just Western VR stuff. My drive selection for porn looks like this:
20TB: JAV VR
14TB: Western VR
8TB: non-VR Porn
4TB: non-VR Porn (mostly trans)
4TB: HypnoTube Archive
I think I have previously updated you all as to why I quit using BluRays and DVDs to store my data (I had 113TB of BD/DVDs), so I won't get it that here (tl;dr too heavy/bulky).
Going forward, I can see myself getting a 20TB drive just for normal JAV (though this is debatable, seeing as how my love of JAV VR was kindled by how immersive it is versus the more cold nature of normal JAV by comparison), or perhaps just for AR/passthrough content (alternatively upgrade from the 14TB to 20TB for non-AR Western VR porn, though I must admit that I find much fewer AR/passthrough videos to be as erotic as non-passthrough.
I would love to see some passthrough JAV VR content, though I have yet to see anything like that... yet. Perhaps one day, or perhaps I'm just unlucky in finding them. Would love more newhalf/trans JAV VR content, but it seems sparse.
My country (USA) is on the cusp of banning pornography, so I have stopped talking to others (in person) about my collection, which I was once so proud of. Some even believe it to have been "lost in a boating accident" hehe.
Seems like the petite/loli style JAV VR stuff just isn't easily found anymore (especially nothing like the old MUM/Minimum JAV films), though I do keep my eye out.
Just regular drives. I've bought and sold NAS units before, but only for resale. I don't think that a NAS is needed in most cases, especially if you have a good organization strategy/know where everything is. I use a 2 bay drive dock for plugging in drives.are you using a NAS? or just regular HDD
That's interesting! Do you have any tips on how to organize hard drives? Do you use specific labels, stickers, or storage boxes to keep things tidy? I have a bunch of 2.5" HDDs and it's gotten pretty messy, haha. I'm planning to upgrade my internal storage from 1TB to 6TB this month so I can keep my favorite genres easily accessible. I'll probably keep adding more drives until I can afford a NAS.Just regular drives. I've bought and sold NAS units before, but only for resale. Awesome… I guess it's finally time to start organizing my ever-growing porn archive over the next few weeks. I’ve been using Linux as my main OS ever since one of my hard drives decided to self-destruct while I was still on Windows. Shocking, right? Who would’ve thought the “most popular OS” would also be the most effective at wrecking your hardware? Thankfully, I ditched that glorified update simulator and found a real operating system that actually respects my data. I’ll keep you posted.Attached is a photo of how my drives look.
The left most portion of drives consists of a few various (mostly blank) SSDs and 2.5 inch internal drives. I am in the process of pulling data off the one 4TB drive that will become my (possible) trans only drive and dividing it amongst two of the 2.5 internal drives (both 500GB).
The middle portion is where I keep all my portable drives. These consist of 3 5TB portable drives, 3 4TB portable drives, and a single 4TB m.2 in an enclosure. The apache case (apache 1800) is waterproof (my tests show waterproofing of 20 meters for 72 hours), which helps put my mind at ease.
The right most portion are my 3.5 inch drives in ORICO boxes (minus the top 2 drives without cases, which I will likely sell). They are ORICO storage cases, and come with an internal thing that can be taken out (or left in - it can house 4 2.5 inch drives (the standard ones up to 3TB) inside the case; clipped into the bracket) for 3.5 inch drives (like mine).
I have debated on ordering another one for the 2.5 inch drives, though I would like to make it less confusing by having as few drives as possible. That said, I do prefer keeping 2.5 inch portable drives, as they easily plug into a mobile device, whereas only 1 of my mobile devices (an LG V60) can connect with my dual bay dock for 3.5 inch drives. Though the 2.5 inch portable drives (minus 2 4TB drives) are all non-porn, and contain Movies, Shows, Music, and YouTube (not much of a gamer).
I try to keep all my tech able to fit in a single Apache 4800 case (though my Quest 3 seems to upset this balance), minus my main computer (an iMac). I have 1 laptop, 3 tablets, 2 eReaders, 6 phones, and 2 flip phones, as well as a couple calculators, so it is a delicate balance. Each device has it's own purpose, much like my drives.
I ditched Windows around 2019 and went to Linux. Moved to macOS for work, and fell back in love with the UI, OS, etc. Windows is below Linux and macOS imo. I'm not surprised by windows doing that though. So many times I had format issues while running that OS, and that was as someone who worked in a couple IT fields (at the time) and who made a living by repairing computers and firmware issues of others. Sorry to hear that that happened thoughAwesome… I guess it's finally time to start organizing my ever-growing porn archive over the next few weeks.
