Anyone here archiving to like Amazon S3 Deep Glacier? Just wondering. For 16TB it runs about 16 bucks a month.

Pornhub, Spankbang, etc. etc. can and will take down your uploads if and when they fancy it - either for content (some JAV crosses the line of what the more mainstream sites like that allow) or for DMCA/copyright. It's not a reliable backup source. And that's ignoring that the quality probably gets nerfed, same as Youtube.

I haven't tried Amazon, I don't know if I'd really trust any cloud hosting, personally. If you have a massive collection, going full data-hoarder and building a private file server is probably the best option, and cheapest in the long run. It's what I plan on doing when I can get the money together.

Cloud won't delete your videos most of the time. You can encrypt before upload. As long as you pay and don't share links, they won't hurt you.

The price of AWS S3 Deep Glacier would be affordable for long term storage (as an archive) but it wouldn't replace a NAS or a file server because I guess you still want to watch your JAV.
You have to wait up to 12 hours if you want to access a file in Deep Glacier and you need to pay to access it. One file would be cheap... a couple of cents but 16TB would cost you 320$ to download.

If you want to be able to watch your JAV you would have to choose AWS S3 Standard – Infrequent Access and that would cost 200$ a month. If you pay that for 12 months you could get a really nice NAS with a lot of space instead.

Hello,

I'm using a WD 28TB my book duo desktop raid external hard drive, Yes I agree the investment at first will cost you some $$, however I do think on the long run you will save money compare to using S3 Deep Glacier. The good side is you can remove easily the HDD inside and upgrade them when bigger size HDD are available at a good price. I'm collecting JAV since 2014 and keep only the one I like and I have now a collection of 18tb so plenty of space still available.

They are using 2 x 14TB WD RED NAS HDD (already in RAID 0 out of the box) inside which is pretty good for the price. All that, connecting with a USB-C which is pretty fast if you want to transfert some to another HDD. On my computer the Xfer rate is around 300Mb/s.

IdeNali has it spot on. Glacier is a good backup option, but only for worst-case scenario filesystem crashes and a final line of defence.

Backblaze claims unlimited data for $60 a year. Not personally used them as I have a NAS with raid so I should be fine as long as no more than one drive dies at the same time.

If you want to secure your files, Cloud services isn't the right option. You rely on them and your data can be removed/deleted for anything as long as they decide to do so.
Like other members, I use a NAS, which can handle 32TB. I only use 2TB for now. However, I don't use Raid for couple of reasons :
1/ If I loose the files, I can download them back. And it's just porn or concert lives copies (from blurays I own)
2/ Rare movies I know I could struggle to get back or important files (so only a few %) are duplicated on an external drive too.
3/ Raid means less total data space. Up to 30% of people report failure with their Raid, so there is always a risk.

Okay a lot of this is going in the wrong direction.

Archive is not the same as keeping things fresh (production). Looking back there are a lot of titles out there that have been taking off the market (by the studio or by the actress themselves). The purpose of the archive is for a set it, forget it, and break only when my Synology takes a crap. An external drive would work but things get old and stop working just because. The cloud archive is nice because its a flat fee (knowing you will not pull from it).
