Always considered the VOD offerings on dmm to be subpar compare to dvd or blu-ray
But even the 3000kbps or 6000kbps content is unbelievably better and incomparable to the lower than SD 400-600MB

Encountered those bad quality sometimes especially on this weeks but thanks god i still found acceptable quality on sukebei right after. By the way to looking for old JAV release in FHD have you try maxjav?

A few times now I've dug deep into the thz.la forum to look for release anywhere between 6 months to 3 years old, amazingly the torrents are still active. Even more amazingly some of them actually finished download. But there are also quite a few stuck at some point between 1% to 99%. Most frustrating is a fairly recent one SNIS-754, it's not even full 1 year old release, and starring a not-unfamous idol, but it's stuck at 99% for over 1 week now.
Looking for vids over 6 months old is hit and miss. Better practice is to grep them as each month/wk/day releases are dropped. Of course I don't follow my own advice. I tend to wait a few months for any debutante to prove herself before I try her out. Once I got a vid or two and decide to like her, then I have to go back and collect her early vids (esp. debut vid) which is not at all a guarantee.
I also open more than 1 vid each time I use my collection. But no matter what I can't possibly make use of them all, if I download more than 3 vids per week, on average. Of course there are good weeks and bad weeks. But after so many years of collecting watching and fapping, I know I'm already collecting more than I can fap to. So why get any more than that? The way LIFE is, more time I spend on collecting porn is less time for things I need and want to do, that's including sex (both solo and non-solo).

More to the point (not our fapping habits) how many of each week's new releases you feel you want to collect?

While we're off topic, you certainly have a point. I actually download a lot and more than necessary, and for sure there are some videos in my collection I will never fap on, or even I will never see, as well as videos I completely forget to have or folders I will probably never re-open until the next year.
Excluding some themes and some studios, if I like the actress I tend to download most of her works, and I often archive videos in the relevant actress' folder after they are downloaded without not even seeing them. I started seriously collecting JAV a couple of years ago, and I have actually about 8 TB archived. There are actresses I care more, and others I stop updating after a few titles because I realize I don't really care. I have some actresses folders which because of the video quality and/or number of releases are very large (eg Ai Mukai or Ayumi Shinoda are probably close to 100 GB each).
Until a few years ago, I used to burn DVDs and it was a nightmare as well as very space/time demanding, I even used to think about the utility of each video and review if it was so necessary, plus extra issues like making their sizes fit a DVD... and possibly the DVD got eventually lost. But since when I use external HD I'm in paradise, they are so easy to organize, cheap and fast, and up to a point you don't have to care too much about sizes and quantity limits. Very likely when the archiving will become too much exacting, or my three HD will be almost full, I will change download attitudes, but so far I did not felt the need to review which video is "necessary" or which one is superfluous, especially as I know I changed so many tastes during the years, got tired and got re-interested in something/someone, disliked a video during the first review and liked a lot when I have reseen it, that now tend to be more conservative. And tubes are disrupting file sharing, so if you want re-download something one year later you found nothing, so for most titles it's "now or never".
thz usually do screen capture to get 1080p videos. These videos may have fhd resolution, but frame rate is a problem. You can see it's sometime laggy, skipping frame, etc.

Yes, same rippers/uploaders who shares 360p, 480p, 720p (for some mostly in uncensored codes) in one single torrent or separately. 480p does shows up (torrent) after 360p but not for all codes and they are super slow, takes a day to complete. Seems like they don't care about and moves on.
I am re-encoding HD (when its out) to SD 480p and updating my threads and others as well. ("GE7" in filename, thats HD or DVD encodes)
Choosing HD/FHD. whatever the source are (DMM).. From what I seen Thz seems to be better for SD re-encoding because those "No watermarks" HD have lot of noise, pixelated frames and worst in dark scenes. (mostly those MP4 versions in 60fps with 5k video rates). MKV HD's have high bit rate (big file size) and sharp/clean videos. Well, each have ups and down, its confusing to choose at time so I stick to Thz as first choice.
I used to use Yipman's HD. :/

I totally agree my pecking order is
1) FHDMKV is the best for quality and for me its easy to edit, 2) FHDMP4 is pretty good too, 3) then thz HD is ok, but yes its choppy but still better than nothing
For uncensored stuff, you need to get the torrents from NEROZ, no watermarks

Yesterday I downloaded the shitty 500mb version of TMEM-097 with Morikawa Anna because no HD is out yet, but the quality was so poor I ended up deleting it seconds after it finished downloading.
Who the F can even watch that type of quality?. Those Chinese guys and their yellow watermark crap are the worst.
Also why do the good quality rips often take weeks to come out after the shitty SD ones are uploaded?.

If it was just the video quality, I might even give it a pass for *some* videos, but with Media Player Classic at least, it takes ages to skip around those videos for some reason, which really makes them unacceptable, because skipping around like an idiot is how I watch all my JAV.
I'm just relieved that PRED-013 was released as a decent SD rip a couple of days ago. Right now I'm worried about AVOP-333.

I use avidemux to repack (not convert) these 500mb videos. It tooks 1-2 minutes but we can skip through it normally again. I think the encoders use wrong settings and they keep doing it.
Yeah I use mkvmerge + GUI to remux to MKV for things like that.
Talking specifically about these kind of rips, I never found the relevant 480p / 720p versions from the same rippers, nor in one single torrent nor separately. Probably I searched in the wrong places. Did anyone digged in their forum, dio8899.net? I am in the process of exploring it, so far the strangest thing I have found is that they refer to these shitty 400-500 mb rips as HD and FHD.
I would love to be able to communicate in Japanese to subscribe their forum and properly complain about their horrible works.
