Who is the greatest JAV actress ever?

Thank you for sharing. I just read her wiki story from the link you provided. Such a sad tale. Such a tragic demise. Perhaps if she sought out treatment for all those aliments she would be okay. A UTI(urinary tract infection), "Hay Fever, " leading to/adding up to pneumonia and death. People do not die of Hay Fever. Then, she is not found for seven days after her death. Was she lonely? She was missing for days before someone checked her apartment/condo. There is a story here.
Yeah, there are more than a few sad stories that come with being a human. It's impossible for us to know what really happened on the days leading up to her death and day of, and thus there is a story there for sure, almost certainly to remain murky and eventually forgotten.

People usually don't die from Hay Fever, but it's not nothing to sneeze at... You can have pretty severe reactions. Between whatever other issues she might have had compounded by some severe Hay Fever episode, I can imagine that contributing to her death.

She seemed like a pretty interesting person at the very least, and I think I will just have to salute her for that.

I should probably keep this to myself, but I had an opportunity to see a relatively well known JAV actress in a certain fetish, at a soapland, at the end of her JAV career, but chickened out. Less than a year later she killed herself for some tragic reasons. I know my visit wouldn't have changed her fate, but I still feel mildly bad for not going. Maybe the timeline of history would have come out different for her, who knows?

I've yet to see a better actress than Yuma Asami by some distance. There are little nuances in her acting that no other actress gets, she's such a goddamn natural. DV-1302 and SOE-579 are my favorite films of hers, both investigator r*** films. Apart from already being great in general (she sells confidence and fear equally well, and can even get physical), my favorite parts are when she lets out a smile mocking her captors as she's being ravaged, or switching from agony to a defiant expression quickly, before succumbing again. Many actresses have attempted those things and come nowhere close. And then there's POV, probably the hardest thing for them to shoot with the long takes. She crushes it like no other, her eyes are so expressive and her emotions are so wide ranging, my fav being her reaction to a premature cumshot in SOE-772...you really couldn't have asked for a more joyous and heartfelt response. She has a remarkable ability to connect with people.

And not content with just being the greatest actress of all time, she also rocks one of the best bodies ever, while her face can transition between cute and womanly depending on what the situation calls for. Without her, this thread would cause a debate for me as there's really no clear winner...with her there isn't.

And then having to fight cancer, quitting abruptly, before pursuing her true passion today. What a ride her life's been.

I wanted to see how highly regarded the actresses are on Wikipedia and it seemed like the early 2010s should be a generally agreed upon golden age, not just due to the caliber of actresses but the switch to HD as well.

Sola Aoi (Japanese: 蒼井 そら, Hepburn: Aoi Sora, literally Blue Sky)[1] is a Japanese former AV idol, nude model, and film and television actress. Starring in more than 600 adult films between 2002 and 2011,[2] Aoi is widely considered one of the most famous AV idols of the 2000s, with her popularity as an adult video actress leading to celebrity status as a media personality both in Japan and abroad.

Yuma Asami (Japanese: 麻美 ゆま, Hepburn: Asami Yuma) is a Japanese actress, singer, and a former adult video (AV) actress and model. Starring in more than 600 adult films between 2005 and 2013,[2] Asami was widely recognized as one of Japan's most famous and acclaimed adult film actresses with her popularity resulting in mainstream media appearances as well. A leading actress of two major Japanese AV studios, Alice Japan and S1 No.1 Style, Asami was known her youthful looks, large bust[3] and her natural onscreen charisma which was largely credited in helping her establish herself as Japan's top adult performer.

Akiho Yoshizawa (Japanese: 吉沢明歩, Hepburn: Yoshizawa Akiho), often known simply as Acky (あっきー), is a Japanese former adult video actress (AV), who also appeared in pink film and mainstream (non-erotic) film, as well as television. With a career spanning over more than 15 years and over 1,000 adult film appearances, Yoshizawa was widely renowned as one of the most famous and recognizable faces in Japanese adult entertainment, with an appeal that managed to cross over into mainstream entertainment.

Tina Yuzuki (Japanese: 柚木ティナ, Hepburn: Yuzuki Tina), also known as Rio, is a Japanese actress, singer and former AV idol who debuted as an AV actress in 2005, appearing in videos produced by the Max-A and S1 studios. After starring in AVs in various genres during her first year in the industry, she won an industry award as Best New Actress for 2006.[3] Since late 2007, she has used the stage name of Rio. In 2009, she transferred to IdeaPocket and became one of the studio's most prominent actresses. After a career that spanned over a decade and nearly 500 adult films, she retired in January 2016.[4][5]

Mana Sakura (Japanese: 紗倉まな, Hepburn: Sakura Mana, born March 23, 1993) is a Japanese AV idol, gravure model and novelist. Originally debuting as a model, she transitioned to AV in 2012, becoming an exclusive performer for Soft On Demand and starred over 140 adult films since her debut.[1] Sakura is considered one of the most popular and recognizable contemporary AV idols as she managed to crossover into mainstream entertainment with regular appearances in television, films and even video games as well. She also became an accomplished author, publishing several novels, magazine essays and running columns.

Aino Kishi (Japanese: 希志あいの, Hepburn: Kishi Aino, born February 1, 1988),[1] is a Japanese actress, singer and former AV idol. Starting her career in 2008, Kishi starred in over 400 adult films[2][3] and was named among the most popular adult film actresses of her generation, with her popularity crossing into mainstream acting appearances as well. She was also a member of the first generation of the idol group Ebisu Muscats between 2008 and 2013. Kishi retired from the adult film scene in December 2015[4] and returned into civil life.

I think Yuma and Acky have GOAT profiles, the former due to acclaim and the latter due to prolificacy.

OP's article contains interesting data and information, but is mistitled. It should be titled "Who is the Most Popular JAV Actress Ever?" Popularity can be measured with the kinds of data the article discusses. "Greatness" - on the other hand - is entirely subjective to the individual. And it's the kind of thing where you'll get a different answer from each person who expresses an opinion.

I only just recently found out that Hotaru Akane died in 2016 at the age of 32, apparently after an acute asthma attack. :(

Thanks to all contributors to this post...some amazing choices and so hard to come up with an all-time favorite..some incredibly sexy women mentioned here

I find these kind of threads to be a bit pointless, they are really just personal opinion comparisons. I'm sure we could all agree that there have been many fabulous JAV ladies over the years and lets hope there will be many more to come in the future.
BTW I really like Miki Sunohara.

If we take away our opinions, that leaves catalogue, longevity, diversity of content, and technique. Like I said, the other ladies, especially Tsubomi, are easily better.

Even diversity and technique would be subjective because people would value different aspects of each more or less.

If I was trying to do this I think I'd score out of 10 for each of:

1. Comeliness / Pulchritude (I just wanted to use these words for physical beauty lol)
2. Performance / Technique
3. Catalog / Longevity
4. Acting Ability
5. Range / Diversity
6. Aura / "It Factor" / Intangibles

[If I wanted to weight anything at all I'd probably do it from top to bottom highest to lowest]

I wouldn't shy away from subjectivity. Total up everyone's scores for nominated actresses and take median/mode values.

I'd piss people off with scores like Reiko Sawamura (4 for Looks), Hana Haruna (2 for Acting, 4 for Technique) and Hibiki Otsuki (9 for Technique, Range and Intangibles). :D

BTW I really like Miki Sunohara.

As you should. :p

Actually agree with you. Although rating like this is totally subjective, you can objectively say someone isn't a very good actress. Reiko Sawamura is a favorite of mine but looks wise, maybe 5 out of 10. Acting 9 out of 10, longevity speaks for itself as well as range. Hana Haruna is simply a terrible actress and therefore nearly unwatchable.
