In manga, anime, and movies whether it be Porn or not, I always encounter this situation. Female A gets r***ing by group of boys. Group of Boys take pictures. Female A becomes sex slave. Or Female B has embarrassing photos taken of her by Boy A and becomes his sex slave. I've seen it so much that I really always wondered if this actually happens in Japan.

Midus: r*** is a very touchy subject. More so for women than men I imagine, however unfortunately it's a frequent crime that's committed all over the world. It's a recurring theme in a lot of popular media regardless of country. There have been cases where things like this have happened in Japan and the U.S.
r*** I think tends to be a male fantasy more so than a female fantasy. It mostly has to do with power. For different reasons.
Thunder: I believe your referring to the lolita genre. In which case there are quite a few members of akiba that shy away from such material. I can understand why and I myself was a bit hesitant at first but having collected it for about 7 years now I've grown to enjoy it for various reasons.

first of all understand this : manga/anime/hentai are a fantasy and a r*** never been so easy in hentai while in actual world a forced fellatio may have gotten you a bitten dick or for another example the group r*** taking pictures still go to jail cuz the pictures are the evidence.....whats there to be embarrased ? they're the victim and the criminal would get more presents in the ass while in prison :XD:

if a r*** is so easy in japan, all perverts would move there........

This is probably my 15 years of single-sex education speaking, but I don't think it's realistic; it's probably just about power. Fine, maybe a girl might be entrapped by one photo or something and feel too scared to seek help, but I doubt most would cave and become the r**ist's slaves! ;3
But it does strike fear into the heart of females for the most part, so it's a kind of taboo and thus that makes it more 'dangerous and alluring', I suppose.

oh god, that's terrrible! yeah, I am always wary of that kind of thing happening... I recently took a three-session 'counter attacking' skills class; we learned how to even flip a guy off our bodies just using hips! D: But it's always better safe than sorry: I mean, I wouldn't wanna use those skills unless I HAD to!

r*** is more common in Japan than most people realize. Women who are the victims of violent crimes or sexual assaults rarely report them. The police are more or less useless when it comes to following up with any sort of investigation. If a suspect is taken into custody for questioning (such as in the case of the r**ist being an acquaintance of the victim), it is unlikely that a prosecutor will bring charges unless there is a signed confession and substantial physical evidence. Physical evidence is usually lacking due to 1.) women waiting several days before reporting the crime and 2.) little investigation/evidence gathering being done by the police. It is a very sad state of affairs there.

BTW Berserk ownz. :evillaugh:

Maybe it has something to do with how Japanese women are taught... maybe they think it's their fault; if that's the case, then... >:

From what I've been told there is still a lingering feeling that woman are not blameless victims. Such as a woman is considered to have brought a r*** upon herself if she was wearing attractive clothing. Many women feel too ashamed after the fact to come forward for fear of being judged.

I do not know how much truth there is to this though. At least I would like to think it is an exaggeration...

Touching on another sensitive topic… Domestic violence. Going back to what Amerikajinmusume said. "Women who are the victims of violent crimes or sexual assaults rarely report them." This morning I got on the subway as I usually do and a women sat down across from me who looked to me to be about 60 years old and had a clear black eye. I assumed that she got it from her husband and felt that she deserved it. My wife and I are still appalled when we hear or see reports on this in the news. There is also a new TV drama where this is the focus and bringing it to the attention of the Japanese people. Unfortunately I think it'll never go away but education will help.

I fully support gender equality and I think it's important to discuss problems like domestic abuse -- even within specific cultures as case studies (like Japan) -- but there's a difference between culture and race, which if misunderstood is outright racism. Take lolicon manga: lots of people really think that Japan must be full of pedophiles since there's lolicon manga everywhere. That's like saying a person is a pedophile simply being he's Japanese. Similarly with r***, it's a two-sided coin: you can argue for better protection of women and women's rights in Japan (and rightly so), but by focusing exclusively on r*** in Japan (or by ignoring r*** in other cultures), you easily give the wrong impression that Japanese men are rapists, as if their race is a determining factor.

Simply put, it's not the race that causes a man r*** someone. It's a psychological issue that comes from that person's environment, and frankly, it's not as if Japan is the only nation with problems of domestic abuse (unreported r*** occurs everywhere). One man is no more likely to r*** a woman because he's Japanese than another man because he's Caucasian.

Really, you could replace Japan/Japanese with America/American (or any other country/ethnicity) in just about all of the comments in this thread and they will still be true. Except maybe for manga, as in OP's question. And to that, I submit that manga is an incredibly liberal medium of artistic expression on which all sorts of taboo subjects are "discussed", and that the West simply doesn't have a similar medium (all of our "r***" content is either hyper-real as with "gangbang" porn, or surreal/abstract as with books/novels). Western comics/cartoons are so engrained with the "just for children" stigma, and just the thought of injecting sex or violence into them sends parents into a panic (as if adult manga is meant to be read by children). Besides, the average reader of adult manga is about as likely to r*** someone as an average American who watches porn.

Thank you. These points really needed to be made and your post is definitely the most level-headed and honest one I've seen on the subject anywhere; not just on Akiba-Online. All too often I see these types of discussions degenerate from "things wrong with Japanese entertainment" to stereotyped assumptions about "things wrong with the Japanese male." It is important to remember that this forms of entertainment appeal to a niche audience even in Japan and hardly represent the fantasies of your average Japanese male.

I commend you, sir! *salute* :full:

Also, I agree that you could replace "Japan" with "America" or any other country for that matter and more or less see the same issues. Although more women come forward in the US when they are the victims of violent crimes, many still choose not to report it out of shame or intimidation. This is especially the case when they are the victim of a family member or close friend/acquaintance. The main criticism I have is for the Japanese police/legal system itself. I think it is the weaknesses and failures of that system that affect Japan the most.

Great points guy. I do agree with that. The point from Amerikajinmusume is also valid. The police system does need to become a stronger presence to help citizens over all. But again we could replace Japanese police with American police. Just another perhaps for another thread…

What bothers me more than the police is the legal system itself. I think it is absolutely ridiculous that one failure to convict a person is enough to ruin a prosecutor's entire career. Because of this extremely high standard, prosecutors will refuse to press charges in a case unless they have substantial physical evidence and a signed confession. This is one of the reasons that Japan has a 99.9% conviction rate. Of course the lack of a jury system is also a problem.

Well, the legal system is gradually improving. There's less pressure for successful prosecutions now, and conviction rate is falling, albeit very slowly. The introduction of the jury system next year should help things.

I think the police system is just as much at fault. A lot of low-level policemen pursue reports they think they can easily investigate and "win" in order to get promotions. That means a lot of "difficult" crimes are ignored even though they're reported (including r***), and policemen harass innocent people in order to get them to confess.

But hey, American legal and police systems have their own problems too!
