Wii U GamePad latency claim

Wii%20U_GamePad_white_email.jpg

According to Rayman creator Michel Ancel - who's working on Rayman Legends for the Wii U - Nintendo's latest home console is capable of streaming data to the wireless touchscreen GamePad controller with just 1/60th of a second latency.

"It's crazy because the game is running in full HD [on the television], we are streaming another picture on the GamePad screen, and it's still 60 frames per second. And the latency on the controller is just 1/60 of a second, so it's one frame late. It's crazy, it's so fast."

"It's almost instant. That's why it responds so well. So it can be used as a real game-design thing."

"This is where Nintendo is really out in front of things. The technology inside the controller is quite a bit more advanced than what people might think. It's really responsive. The response time is crazy, in fact, and I think the competitors will need some time to [get their solutions] this responsive."

Nintendo TVii launches in the US and Canada

Nintendo is launching its Nintendo TVii video streaming service in the United States and Canada on 20th December.

Nintendo TVii will enable Wii U owners to use the GamePad to browse and search for programming from sources they're subscribed to, and engage with others about content through Miiverse, Facebook and Twitter.

At launch, the service will support cable and satellite providers in both regions, plus direct integration with Amazon Instant Video and Hulu Plus subscriptions in the US.

Further integration with Netflix subscriptions and TiVo are expected in early 2013 in the US.

Nintendo TVii will also launch in select regions of Europe in 2013.
