There's a bit of what paparoach said, the other point you are missing is that, we are in the English "world" here. There's the (obviously) Japanese JAV world, but there are other fandoms that track but not identical to the Japan fandom. There's at least an English fandom and a Chinese fandom. For an example of divergence between the fandoms, Hitomi and Anri Okita are much bigger (PUN intended) in the English fandom than in the Japanese fandom. Whereas Sora Aoi was more popular in the Chinese fandom than in either Japan or English fandom. (partly due to China/HK/TW still loving her long after retirement)

No question Yua Mikami is more successful in Japan than global. Her schtick is her SKB career and a steady stream of notoriety stories in Japanese gossip mags. The rest of world (such as myself) don't care as much about the "scandals" and tend to judge her as yet-another AV newbie. So if you are only tracking English media you might think she's underrated and if you follow only Japanese buzz, you'd think she's overratted. Both might be correct.

IMHO, from a couple of her recent TEK vids. I think she is moving in the right direction. Perhaps her short career as a minor idol does make a difference. She has more than 2 facial expressions and can talk and smile for the camera. She's dropped her diva altitude and performing sex acts like a professional. I think your right. Assuming that their are all least three fandoms, in all likely hood more. Each fandoms has its one unique taste and preferences. Japan fandom seems to like Kawaii, JK and lolita idols. China fandom seems to like more western looking idols who are taller, have slim bodies and pretty faces. The English fandoms seem to have the widest varying in term of taste and preferences of the all the fandoms. Still all the fandoms have certain level of variance, because they are made up on individuals with individual taste and preferences. You can always find niche groups in every fandom that like and prefer something outside or counter what is more popular in that fandom. Its just that their doesn't seem to be a consensuses about the type of JAV idols the English fandom like, past "we love Japanese women". The thing is that they are several JAV idol and legends that transcended all three fandoms and have gather large following across all fandoms. As a result they have establish them self are all time great.

While I would like to be 100% agree with you needs more loli, about the personnality, even if they are not the majority, some girls can be aggressive like Ai.
