Most JAV enthusiasts have a collection of our favourite actresses. Then their are some that hoard just about any AV movies to their liking. Question is how much hoarding is enough? No one can really finish watching all their hoarded films. Eg 1000 movies, that would be more than enough for 365 days a year.

as long as new jav of people, or themes I like keep getting released, then there will never be enough hoarding

TGWM, i have around 60tb and trying to purge some of my collection to make room for newer movies. One thing i noticed with AV is that i'd get bored of the old performers as time goes by. There's actually some scientific studies done on this, as males prefer unlimited new partners for procreation. Anyways, seems like u have a systematic way of hoarding. I use Excel to tag all actresses and sort by their movies, date etc. Out of curiousity, what if ur entire HDD porn stash gets stolen?? That would really hurt, to redownload them all again. If you can even find the old ones. An offsite backup would be great and the Cloud.

Hoarding does have its merits. For archiving purposes. I remember when JAV was extremely hard to come by online, and i regret not downloading some of the older movies by Azumi Kawashima while they were still available. Now some JAV classic films are lost forever. It's good to hoard even if we don't watch them, then share it onto the web for it to live on and preserve itself.

After purging everything four years or so ago and then losing a bunch after a drive failed I started using Blu-ray discs to archive. 50GB discs. I'm up to 3000+ again and counting. Why? Like you say, @Trainman, for archiving purposes. And, like you say, @TGWM, they are nice to have.

Casshern2, physical discs seems like a good way to go in preventing stuck HDD spindles, logical errors, drops on motorized drives. I haven't worked out the math, but i'm quite certain cost per gb to disc is higher on discs. There's also the worrying problem of disc rot, humidity, scratches and fingerprints etc. As i understand blurays have a protective layer and not as feeble as dvd-R. I was thinking of investing in a NAS Raid Array dedicated just for JAV but that's probably overkill. Maybe a large external SSD offsite for my fav movies. Most of us hoard other consumables like films, music, games etc.

Can those discs be rewritable? What's your approach to organizing what goes on what disc? The idea of using discs does seem safer than a drive especially as time progresses but I'd feel that I'd end up with a designated JAV library in my house with built ins filled with discs.
Funny you should ask. That little screenshot is from a new version of my personal project that helps me keep track of what I have. Unfortunately, because of time constraints, it is still way early in development and is very basic. In fact, I need to get back on it and spruce it up a bit!

Very slick interface/sorting system. Am impressed, but probably don't have time to go through and do all my movies. Sticking with Excel for now

3000 JAV movies + some western stuff + Hentai + HMV + a lot of amateur asian stuff (thai, filipina, japanese) + 3D animated (SFM + japanese). All in all 22 TB at the moment.

Neatly organized with Plex media Server (as a separate Intel NUC running Ubuntu Linux) which allows for internal access and on the road streaming access.

Man, i have a problem...

Are you adding the info manually for each video?

With this thing you can use Excel (csv) as the simple backend. It would hold your data. You'd just need to grab your images.

No, but I sometimes have to rename the videos so that they correspond to the ID-Code.
There is this site called jpmag.net which has metadata agents for kodi and plex. Unfortunately at the moment it is not working because they are updating stuff in the backend.

Another way to add metadata is to scrape it using this Jav Moviescraper, a great tool written in Java. https://github.com/DoctorD1501/JAVMovieScraper/releases You put each video file in its own folder and name the folder and the file as the movie-code. The Scraper does fetch some folder-images and metadata like genre, actresses etc. from javlibrary, r18.com and so on. It also creates folder.jpg-Images if the option is set, which leads to the folders in Windows all displaying neatly with the Cover vor each video.

Before adding videos to my HDDs I run them through JavMovieScraper just in case jpmag.net someday ceases to function completely. Then I can just switch the Metadata agent so that it reads from the .nfo-Files in each Folder and creates Metadata this way.

For Hentai there is a metadata agent that gets data from anidb

Yeah, I found out that plex has that function build in, but I don't really use it and usually have it disabled. It was just nice to see that it worked.

I usually seem to obsess about those things, not really watching that much, it's more the collecting and organizing part ... like tinkering with automatic playlists and such. You can for example save a playlist for Ai uehara and when you add a new video it gets automatically sorted into the playlist.

What brand are you using, and where are you getting such a great price, if you don't mind me asking?

I had purchased one spindle of Optical Quantum DL discs. and of the 10, all of them worked fine on day one. But 3 years later, even in a temperature controlled environment, 3 of them would spin up, but you couldn't actually get the files off of them. I've burned over 100 single layer discs, those all work with the exception of one that got badly scratched.

Also, what brand burner are you relying on? I have an LG WH10L30, it's getting up in age, but still seems to perform fairly well. Excepting those DL duds.

No worries! I get them from Ebay. They are RIDATA discs. Inkjet printable, but I just use a sharpie to mark if you've seen my images. I've only had maybe 4 coasters in all the ones I've tried, so far about 100 discs. Every one I've gone back to read from has been fine. The seller is shoppingatnet-com. Free shipping!

I'll have to get home for the burner, I know it is LG as well.

I was content with 720p stuff until COVID hit. The free time I had on my hands led me to discover the wonders of 6000kbps FHD.

I had 2TB of porn before, now I'm at 17TB with 8TB of free space still. There's only about 1600 JAV films in there, but I rewatch old favorites so often...I feel like 250 of them are more than enough to last me a lifetime. I'll even reignite interest in stuff I've gotten tired of.

Two main reasons I hoard stuff I likely won't watch:
  • The actress is fucking hot. Iroha Natsume and Julia have a ton of boring looking films and I just get them anyway. Just in case.
  • Being compulsive about owning a complete series. Like, the Slave Investigator series has 9 films. I love Yu Shinoda but her chapter sucked, yet I gotta keep it anyway. IPZ-001 to 999...I'm 90% done with that one, a ton of stuff I have no interest in, but I have to complete the mission right?

I exclusively hoard lesbian JAV. Started almost exactly a year ago, now up to 10TB and 3500 titles. I always go for 1080p FHD or best available. Have spent so much time in the past year collecting and researching. First it started out downloading lesbian movies that I liked, then it quickly turned into some sort a completionist game where I wanted EVERY lesbian JAV I could find. So, unless it's something I find disgusting or very uninteresting (or an omnibus *shudders*), I will probably download it if I can.

And like a poster said before, not a chance I will ever watch all of them, but it's nice to have them.
