I dont think VR releases will overtake non-VR releases (anytime soon). Main reasons are a) non-VR content has a much bigger market as the viewer doesnt need a VR headset and therefore in non-VR even very niche content will find its customers b) VR is restricted to POV. Non-VR content has much more creative freedom due to that and thus more videos.I am curious as to everyone's perspective on this topic. Do you believe that the AV industry in Japan is shifting to VR centered releases? If so, when do you expect it to overtake regular (non VR) releases? Does anybody know the breakdown? I remember hearing pre VR, roughly 10,000 titles would be released each year. Im curious if there are more released now, or if it is roughly the same, but with VR eating up a good portion of the releases.
Nevertheless i think VR is very profitable for the studios as in non-VR content they struggle with all the amateur content released. VR porn (on a level that top-studios deliver) is not possible to replicate by amateurs. If you check out the montly DMM sales ranks on the Zenra blog you ocassionally see VR videos listed there.
