I had heaps of porn once, the best way for me was to delete a lot of it. But ultimately I sorted by categories.
So for example I would have a JAV folder. Inside JAV I would have the basic sorting. So inside that folder would be Straight, Lesbian, Solo, LesbianStraight (I made that category up for a scene where women do lesbian stuff but also have sex with a guy also).

Then inside those folders I would have them sorted again by theme. So inside the straight, lesbian etc folders there would be more folders like bondage, anal, softcore etc.

I found that it was sufficient. I find that if you have so much porn that you can't figure out anyway to sort it properly then maybe you have too much porn. Look at some things and think about if you are ever even going to use it to get off over, if you think you probably won't then just delete it I would say. Just keep the really good stuff.

I did this with my collection to consolodate it, I made a folder called best and went through all of my porn and only put the very best things in it to keep. I once had like literally 3TB of porn. But today it's down to 400gb and I will never make it larger than that.
think this applies the same for physical things. keep the things that spark joy to you.

The biggest problem IMO, is that every once in awhile, you will have 2 or more different JAVs from totally different studios that have the same ID. I sort by ID, so figuring out a work around has not yet happened. I might just have to sort by year now...

That happened to me just a few months back dealing with VR titles. VR titles! You'd think they haven't been around long enough for that to happen! My solution? I deleted the one that had little replay value.

I use JAVMovieScraper by DoctorD1501 to create XBMC nfo data. I use Plex with XBMCnfoImporter plugin to add media to libraries. Together its pretty sweet and i can sort by actor/genre/studio etc

Glad to see I'm not the only one having this problem with VR files. My solution has been to simply add the actress name after the studio code, not perfect but works for me so far.

Been having trouble with the Jav Movie Scrapper (https ://github.com/DoctorD1501/JAVMovieScraper) lately, titles like PRDVR-009 won't scrape but the other titles in the series will which is very strange. Anyone know of similar scrappers?

I just save the covers into a folder, with a date/code format.
Saving movies into a hard drive is something I stopped doing long ago. Too much stuff to watch, plus nowadays everything is one click away from multiple sources.

What does your quote mean?

'I felt in love with your... your littlest...'

Just download the movies you want to watch. That's what I do. I select movies based on the trailer (and the girls I follow). So I don't download all new daily movies (I don't understand those who do that). And in JAV, links are quickly dead. It doesn't help that "uploaders" on javlibrary are just copying links from the first uploader so when the first link is dead, all others are dead too. For torrents, few months later, it can be difficult to find active torrents.

While I can respect your view on only downloading what you want, you (at least in my mind) just answered your own confusion. "links are quickly dead". That is mostly the sole reason why some of us try and download everything. To have the most complete archive we can. Tastes change. I would rather have a copy of a video I did not know I would like, rather than risking it becoming impossible to find. I personally have not been able to download any JAV in months, as I have been out of space, but I am hoping that will change this month, as I will be able to use my college money for things like new hard drives.

I agree that when I find interest in an actress that is already working for couple of years, finding links for her first movies can be a pain in the ass (not to mention HD versions). This kind of situation is rare though, as I tend to pick newcomers with already few movies under their belt. However, there are genres I know I will never like (SM, torture, r***, vomit, forced deepthroat, ...) so there is no point downloading them.
I currently have 2,30 Tb of JAV (mostly HD files), and it would be impossible to download everything from all the actresses I follow. Instead, I watch the trailer of a movie and if I like it, I download it (ex: Yua Mikami's private and school gangbang movies, I skipped them because it's not what I like).

I wasn't gonna join in, everyone has his way, why argue?

But then, you want to be a completist, but lacks the resource to do it. You know most of us wouldn't say no to a complete collection of JAV, if you can do it, who's to say anything against you. But if one can't have everything, what should be sacrificed? Either be selective upfront, and drop some (in my case, most vids, actually) vids based on judging covers alone. Or in your case, be completist when you can, and then stop for months when you can't? That's incompletist, and unrealist. Sort out what you can do and what you want to do.

To murder and paraphrase a classic saying, it's better to have a JAV title and later not want it than to not have a JAV title and later realize you can't get it.

While I do steadily but slowly acquire quite a few titles to add to my collection (I certainly won't claim to have viewed them all at this point) I don't grab anything and everything. Certain actresses to me are a must. Just gotta do it. But even then if the genre or series doesn't suit me I pass.

Fine fine... who's saying NO to "have" a JAV? I'm saying "have" is nice but "grab" (and "keep") involves a cost. I'm old enough, I have seen everything that I want to see, and dropped a few genres (e.g. pure nudity, lesbian, harem... were great when I had less experience, now I've the experience, the mental barrier and/or overthinking is done, I'm now pretty happy with relatively vanilla sex) and picked up no new genres in many years.

Now there's almost zero risk of give a cover a pass, and then later regret it. Compared to spending the resource on a title that I never watch, the choice is pretty easy.

Wow. Nice response that made me think. I might be in that same boat and not realize it. SAY IT AIN'T SO

Coming back to this thread. I have been working slowly but surely over the past few days to get more JAV. The fact that offkab is uploading plenty of 10GB+ file sizes certainly helps. I have a 1TB Seedbox I use for this stuff, and have only recently added a new 500 gigs to it. I go through phases, and it seems like my JAV phase is beginning again. Typically lasts anywhere from a week to 3 months at a time. Heres hoping I am able to boost myself over the 20TB mark this time around (At around 18TB as of now). My download speed has gotten better, and going 24/7 with no interruptions, I can manage over 400 gigs a day (close to 500 actually). So, anything interesting going on in the JAV world?

Going by typical 2G / hr for FHD, you are downloading 200-250 hrs of porn every 24 hours.
