So, you find a movie with an actress you like and what do you do? Search for other movies with the actress of course. And you might also see if the movie is part of a series and go look for the other parts. And thus you've sowed the seed of your ever expanding JAV knowledge.

Only recently have I started to check out the director's work of stuff I like as well, even though it only makes sense. So, who are your favorite directors?

On the top of my list has to be K*WEST. I don't think that's his real name though. After checking out his work I noticed a lot of my favorite movies are from him. So what's his speciality? Slutty, agressive girls!

Thanks to his usual subject matter he directs a lot of movies for WAAP and Chijo Heaven, but he also directed one of Real Work's Fellatio Hell titles. And quite a bit of femdom titles for Dogma.

Dude knows what's up.

I also love the way his movies look. Very warm, erotic lighting.

Next up we have Akai Suisei. While he didn't start out that way, if you look over his filmography you can see that from one day to the next he suddenly became the master of blowjob photography.

Definitely a cool dude.

Of special note to me is Bebop Minoru, who appearently single-handedly runs Dogma's POV Dirty Talk series.

A man most dedicated to his craft.

Some of my favorite titles are from Premium and Wanz Factory, but from what it looks like they don't really list their directors. A shame, because especially in Wanz's case their titles do vary a lot in quality even within the same series, and even if it's an actress I usually like so it'd be nice to know who's responsible for what.

Also, the fellatio hell series looks like it went through a lot of different directors, some only doing one title and then moving on, but they're all pretty similiar stylistically, so I guess Real Works has some guidelines or the rest of the staff is the same between films. Of special note is this dude right here:

Lamb Chop did one of the best movies in the series:

And the absolute worst:

But to be fair, getting a good looking blowjob out of Karen Uehara is not an easy task and I actually like the girl.

Anyway! So yeah, who are the dudes that make you think:"Man, that guy sure has made a bunch of decent porn movies."?

K*WEST is definitely not his real name. :)

Pretty much all use pseudonyms though I know one who uses his real last name with a fake first name.

To make your hunt a bit more annoying, sometimes the SAME director may use a different name if he's shooting a different genre or shooting for a different production company.

In that case I appreciate the dude who appearently directed two of my favorite Yuma Asami movies, Hitoshi Nimura.

Turns out he directed a whole bunch of newhalf and crossdress movies inbetween and after and doesn't give a fuck.

I dunno, I get changing your name when you're working for a different company, but just for a different genre? It's not like you're using your real name in the first place.

Strangely libre-ating when such an old-time member as Serlibre speaks up... especially since he seldom does!

First time I took note of directors was when I began to appreciate a quick sequence of scenes showing our heroine having sex with her pursuer, giving the impression she was getting more and more ensnared by him... one scene of note being the "shower" scene. I produced a thread that was inspired by this sort of montage, called "JAVs a Notch Above." I had discovered the name of one director who consistently employed this technique, and constructed a table of his movies by the end of my first post, on that thread.

His name was Tkuo Otani. (With whom I was so impressed, as I see I had mentioned in Post #8, I put up a lengthy post spotlighting his flicks in Stream DOWNLOADS.) In my next post (Post #3), I had discovered Taro Hankyu who had also taken a crack at the "sexual montage," and I listed his movies by the end.

From my notes, I have also added Yamada Godaru, who was behind SHKD-583... a wonderful movie; at the time, he had a tiny body of work. (Which is still the case; perhaps he has other pseudonyms.) Another fine director was Sadao Sadaoka (Sada Okasada?), whose Because I Want to Be Loved By You [ADN-065] had caught my attention. One more, active since 2003 with a giant body of work, was Nagira Kenzo; Under the Direction of Attackers - Violated Right in Front of the Husband [IPZ-064] had made me take note of him.

That was it for my directors' kick. I'll admit I haven't been hungrily eyeing any of these artists' movies since.

----------------------

I thought that was a great shot of Yuma Asami on the first cover Hans Kowalski put up in his last post above (for Kiss, Fellatio, Sucking On Balls and Then Fellatio Again Followed By Licking the Butt [DV-1267]). By the way, somehow it ain't "Classic Kowalski," as Casshern2 wittily put it in a recent post elsewhere, without Hans's famous signature pic of Yu Kawakami; this new one will take some getting used to.

How about Director/Actress in Nao Masaki. She still occasionally performs in front of the camera and behind the camera.

ogsm00009pl.jpg
Here she is with Yu Kawakami in a recent release.

pla00058pl.jpg
She directed this one, seems she also was the camerawoman in the opening scene with the interviews

Nao Masaki also seems to specializes in Lesbian release mostly, considering she did direct all three Nanako Tsukishia/Eririka Katagiri and Sora Shiina videos.

I gotta come back to this thread and mention Nao Masaki.

This girl right here:

RJTv0DA.jpg

Occasionally appears in front of the camera, but most of her work is behind the scenes as director. When I made this thread I mostly knew she did some of those PLA- movies, mostly because that's where she also appeared in front of the camera in a few scenes but not much else.

But just looking through the movies she's directed, she's responsible for some of the best ones in recent times and she does a lot of different genres as well.

http://www.javlibrary.com/en/vl_director.php?&mode=2&d=aigq

Go check it out, there are some movies I would've never expected came from her. And she knows how to make the girls look sexy and frame a good POV scene better than a lot of male directors nowadays.

I really miss that PLA series from her. It's been what? Almost a year since the last one now?

Wow an oldie thread... I managed to give this thread a miss the first time. Not because I don't care about directors. In the "real" world, I pay much more attention to directors than actor/actress. But unfortunately tracking JAV director seems a bit hopeless.

Bottomline is both industry and fandom don't seem to care much about the art (of directing) vs. the meat (of idols). I can understand it, the industry wants the fans to buy for the meat and not give much spot light to the art (and risk making the director too high profile and high cost). It's a bit different in Europorn (at least as I used to know it), the most famous (and predictable IMHO) being Pierre Woodman.

To make your hunt a bit more annoying, sometimes the SAME director may use a different name if he's shooting a different genre or shooting for a different production company.
Yes... I believe, because there are more JAV director names than AV idols. I simply can't believe the industry keeps hiring new guys to direct the films. I think there are not that many guys working this job and they keep making up new names because no one cares anyway.

And then I wonder ... not just the same director may use different and one-off aliases for each studio/series. I wonder in the case of the (very relatively speaking) famous names like K*west, K.C.武田, etc, the same alias might be used by several different directors. So a director alias might not belong to a director (even if he may have more than one) but belong to a studio/production house/series. A famous example in anime is Hajime Yatate, an individual's alias to represent a team, especially a fluid non-constant team.

So the reason I missed joining the thread 3 years ago, I already was thinking it's futile to track/follow JAV directors.
