not an expert, but i can roughly guess why, based on certain things.

- Japan society, as many of us know, is still pretty conservative. Any loud or brash noise/outburst, esp. from the females, are discouraged. So making and watching porn is an act of rebellion/deviance against sociatal norm.

- speaking of vocalizing, there's something called Female copulatory vocalizations. Japanese females, by tradition, are expected to be gracious and reserved in any emotions. Having the JAV actress loud moaning and vocalizing is breaking that general traditional expection even during sexual acts.

- Many japanese females naturally have voices in the *higher register, which japanese males traditionally likes. As to why in almost 90% of JAV, they either raise their voices' register even highter, are squeaky, or even sounded as if tortured... beats me. Probably based on the past sales that these sell especially well...?

*a note, is that i remember reading an article from an issue of Times magazine's Japanese Culture Special edition. It summise that Japan especially loves Youth and Youthfulness.

the above are just my personal thoughts on it. feel free to point of any mistakes.
Mostly wrong.

It's part of why I like watching debut videos, because there's a higher chance of natural sounds and less squeaking. I do like lots of (dirty) talk. I don't understand it, but it's great. They could be moaning about how delicious their food was the other day and it'd get me going.

There is currently a new trend on You Tube covering different types of Japanese porn topics, this is just one of them. Recently I realised why I am so addicted to these females. I joined the military after high school (over 20 years ago) and I lost my virginity to an Asian MILF in a massage parlor. I guess you could call it PTSD lol in a good way I guess. Anyhow, I spend any extra $$ these days at massage palors. Just hearing the Asain broken english is enough to get me going. I have yet to have one make those squeaking noises though.

Only noise they make, that I don't care for is when they go down on a woman, especially in lesbian porn.

Do not care for the obnoxious sucking sound. But I guess Japanese audiences are in to that.

... or is it just in the AV industry that they do it ?

I was just watching BBAN-034 and getting right into it when they raised their game and the moans of pleasure started sounding like a field of guinea pigs being chased by a fox. It put me right off my stroke.

Even if it is just in the AV industry, do Japanese customers really like that sort of noise with their porn ?
They sound like a squeaking bed...
Does anyone remember the old music from Yoko Ono? She reminds me of the sounds JAV actresses make

Remind me never to click this thread again.
I think the "squeaky sex" thing has in itself become a sterotype.

Unfortunately I had never had sex with Japanese women, not even prostitutes, so I'm not speaking from experience. Perhaps there's some serious study out there, social science, gender study sex study or something. Comparing the amount of verbal (words) and non-verbal noise made by man or woman comparing different countries and cultures.

But consider this, from foreigners learning the Japanese languages and ways. In some context Japanese put huge values in silence, an extreme example, when one commits suicide by slicing open his own belly, he should be silent. In other context, it is impolite to be quiet.

In friendly conversation (i.e. non-formal occasion) if A is talking and B is listening, B should not be silent, s/he must continuously make noises and words appropriate to whatever A is saying, to express that s/he is paying attention and engaging. When eating, especially if the person cooking or hosting is present, s/he must making eating slurping and swallowing noises, and the louder and ruder it is, is expressing s/he is enjoying and appreciating the food and hospitality.

By extension, I'm guessing Japanese (both men and women) are deliberately making a lot of noise because it is polite to express appreciation and prowess of the intercourse partner. Especially the woman should be noisy to make the man feel good about himself.

If you compare today's JAV to more than, say, 8 years ago, I think it used to be even more exaggerated. Now there's a slow trend to have women more to be herself and less performative during sex.
I've been with all kinds of women, including Japanese and the answer is...it depends on the person. Some Japanese women sound like that, others don't. I think in the videos you're talking about, those performances are exaggerated to appeal to men who maybe don't have very much sex or only have sex with their conservative, modestly-behaved wives. And their more quiet way of doing it isn't because they don't enjoy sex with their husbands but because of the way they're raised and the cultural norms.

A boring evening so here comes a perhaps needlessly long post. A serious Japanophile answer from a guy who has been living in Japan for 25 years and having sex with Japanese women for most of those years, to a sorta nonserious question.

There is a simple cultural element in that you could ask why the women in US porn keep saying "fuck my tight little pussy" over and over again or "oh fuck yeah, yeah, yeah"...

It has to do with male-female relations in the culture, and it doesn't really have to do with porn, though porn does exaggerate things - at least for what we are talking about, the women are obviously more performative in their vocalizations in porn. In the US, it's okay for a girl to be really into the sex and to let it be known, in fact for most guys it's a turn-on. In Japan, it's more of a shameful thing. There is a focus on women being virginal and pure and not dirty. A Japanese guy would typically find US porn female vocalizations a turn-off; it almost sounds like the woman is the one in control, directing the action. There is the old Japanese didactic story about the department store fire and all the women workers wouldn't jump from the roof to the tarp the firefighters were holding below because they were afraid of the lifelong shame of the air from the free-fall lifting their kimonos and showing their nether regions to the onlookers below.

When a Japanese girl wants to have sex, she gives a pouty, demure, almost scared look that says "I want to have sex but I know it's bad of me to want to so I'm just going to look sort of troubled and submissive to let you come at me." Seen it many times now. That's the Japanese woman saying "come on!", but it almost looks more like worry than being sexually turned on. In a similar way, one Japanese girl I was with would always slowly back up away from me during our make-out sessions until she was backed into a corner, like "Okay, now I've got nowhere to run to" which was her way of saying "take me" without having to say anything.

The squealing is their sign of enjoying what they know they shouldn't. Most Japanese girls in real life are much, much quieter. The porn vocalizations get at that she really wants it, but without breaking the barrier into smutty sluttiness or a volitional sense that confronts the man's power. The shouts of "iya da" and yamete" are backwards encouragements for the Japanese male to show his sexual virility and prowess.

Westerners feel themselves more as partners in the sexual act, at least the older/more mature ones. For Japan, sex is still something a man does to a woman. So, the female reactions are more about something that is supposed to be shameful, painful, and hesitant-to-admit really what the women wants to have be done to her.

My 2 yen on it at least...

One way of saying, "I'm cumming!" is to say "dame (pronounced dah-may)" but in common everyday usage dame means "It's no good!" But I'm sure that particular word came to be used sexually because of the shame associated with willfully enjoying the act. So to call out dame is a way of admitting you're about to cream your man's bedsheets without being so aggressive that you turn him off. You're announcing your shame, which for many Japanese men is a turn-on!

It's a porn direction thing. There are actresses out there who aren't vocal like that in every single JAV they've performed in. One of my favorites, Shirato Hana, wasn't vocal at all in her amateur works until she went big.

Aside from it also being my kink, this is mostly the reason why I like hidden sex / exhibitionism type themes because they stifle their voices in order to not "get caught". So if you're into that then there's a high chance you'll find one where they're trying not to be noisy. ASMR, whisper in the ear, where women are being assertive are pretty good for this as well.

Dame isn't really a way of saying "I'm coming". In this context it means "no", "stop", or "don't do it". But you're right, it's used because of the shame associated with willfully enjoying the act. I had to listen to the word spoken forcefully in a completely different context for many years with a Japanese wife reprimanding our children. lol

"Dame" means "it's not possible/allowed". It can mean "stop", but in porn it usually means "I can't hold on any longer I'm going to cum".

Despite it may be the taste of Japanese audience, all these Japanese porn actresses have to act like they enjoy sex very much. Stage JAV are all about acting, fake moan, fake cum, fake urine etc.

True that. I hate the over acting in porn. At least in a lot of Asian porn there is still wholesome looking girls having sex. As a senior citizen I tend to go for amateur porn these days.

Check out the studio, FA-Pro. It's run by a guy names Henry Tsukamoto and the vast majority of the videos are about mature couples and sometimes an older man with a younger woman and vice-versa.

Ruby is strictly older performers. That's their thing. And the stories are much more basic than FA-Pro's. Middle age suburban couple, not particularly attractive, still hot to trot and we watch them have sex. That's it. Sometimes they get a legitimately above average beauty in there, and that's when I tune in, but for me the balance FA-Pro creates is perfect. Lots of normal looking performers but the stories are titillating (Or downright taboo!) and the intensity of their performances, both the sex and the dramatic scenes, is really hot!

When I say normal-looking, for FA-Pro that still usually means "attractive" but in the way someone you know or a co=worker is attractive. They're likely not model or actress hot but still worth a look. Think Hitomi Enjo or Emiko Koike, two jukujos who, before their retirements, I would not have thrown out of bed for being older. Koike-san was prettier but Ms. Enjo was "sexy!". and a great performer! Both have scenes in HTMS-117 (Hitomi Enjo stars in TWO scenes). That's a collection o f lesbian scenes from FA-Pro but my point is the intensity in both women's, their voices, the way they pant and moan, and when they cum...Porn Award level work!
