Why do so many JAV stars start late in life?

I usually try to find and note the age of an actress. I have noticed many seem to have started when they were in their 40s or 50s. I think a career in western porn would be pretty much over by then. Why would this be?
BTW, I generally find the older JAV stars to be very attractive. I always found older women attractive; not so much now that I'm pushing 80.

I think it may be that some women find their sexuality later in life- maybe were married and now want to experience some freedom. My favorite, Chisato Shoda did not start until she was around 35, was divorced and had a child. I believe in all cases, somewhere along the way someone who knew them encouraged them to do this. In any case, they all knew they were attractive enough to feel they could turn men on by watching them.

I believe that most are prostitutes that use porn to get men to visit at those escort clubs. I use to believe they were moms and stuff from reading the the information and stuff, but there could be many reasons for a women to join. Like paying off debt.

Porn is just a business - if there is demand amongst customers for watching in movies mature actresses, playing roles of mature (Jukujo) mothers, aunts and mother-in-laws - there is no need to start at 20 years old (like did Yumi Kazama).

Many good porn actresses, starting in their ripe age of forties - were earlier gravure idols, working in dancing studios or night clubs, not necessarily as prostitutes.

Some are coming in porn business only for 3-5 years and then retiring (like Yuuko Kuremachi), some others are playing longer time. Like Marika Kobayashi, Minako Kirishima, Eriko Miura...
