I just purchased Topaz Video AI and trying to use it to enhance some older movies that are 426x240 and 800x480, for example. Does anyone have any experience with the software? It's very CPU intensive so trying to unnecessarily upscale is tedious. I'm trying to upscale 4x and it takes about 24 to process.

At this point, no neural network can make a quality video

Topaz is pretty good stuff. Unfortunately, I found out that my computer is not sufficiently powerful to run the software. But, kudos to Topaz: they refunded my purchase price promptly and without issue.

Even neural networks for photos are slow and the result is still bad

Yeah, I'm tempted myself. What's required hardware wise?

I recently upgraded my GPU to a 4070Ti so I should be good there but my m/b, CPU and RAM is 5 year old spec. From memory I have an i9 10900K and 32GB of DDR3.

I would be interested in seeing others use this software. I guess you really need a gaming computer or video editing workstation.

Which JAV remasters have you seen?

I've seen some that have been pretty good and others that have that burnt, plastic-looking sheen to them.

Either way, for anyone ultimately doing this please please PUH-LEEZE put a front-end splash screen stating clearly that any publicly released movie is a remaster. Preferably with the software, plug-ins and relevant settings included.

Someday the technology will be better and I think we'd prefer people doing remasters of original releases and not remasters of bad remasters...

I run Windows 11. 10 and 11 have a search box at the bottom of the screen. If you type in DxDiag and run it, it will show you what your system is. You can save all information and send it to Topaz and they will tell you if you have enough power. I believe they have a limited trial version as well so you can check it out. I was looking for 25% improvement, I didn't expect true HD, just an improvement.

Takes 24 what to process? Minutes, hours?

It was taking over a day. I contacted Topaz and they confirmed that my computer and video card were not sufficient for processing. And they promptly refunded my purchase. Good customer service. I would look at their minimum requirements on their website` before purchasing.

If you have a more modern GPU installed you can set Topaz to use the GPU for processing. The NVidia control panel lets you do this

Being relatively computer ignorant these days, does that mean I can install an aftermarket video card that meets specs and my my computer will then work?

Sounds like by default it uses CPU to process video which actually seems like a crazy default in this day and age. Leveraging your GPU should make it massively faster.

Maybe the assumption is that a lot of people using the software aren't using high end 3D acceleration on gaming rigs (or 3D workstations)?
