I had to write an essay on the pachinko parlor for one of my in-class exams in my 3rd year of Japanese at college. I remember that there was a cultural butting of the heads between the teacher's assumption about our knowledge of pachinko parlors and the failing students' assumptions about how easy an essay test in a foreign language should be, but for the life of me I can't remember what that was. What I do remember is, she heavily stressed how smoky those places are and how it's something that most Japanese associate with compulsive gamblers and addiction-prone individuals yet it's a hobby enjoyed by many Japanese. Seemed sort of like what would happen in America if we allowed casinos to open up shop so that one was right next door to every ATM.
So for me, your photos lend some credibility to her essay but also take some away.

Another Drunk Guy On The Street - This is actually quite common to see. If you drink too much and miss your train, just pull yourself over to the side of the sidewalk and get some rest. Have a bag? No problem! Put it next to you (or above you in this case) and no-one will take it.

"Don't let it get you goun," ... awesome. lol The closest I can think of in Japanese would be something bizarre like ヰにしないで or 気にするぺ！ or something. "Goun," they misspelled half of the intended word AND created a word that doesn't exist in ANY modern dialect of English. [/stating the obvious]
