For some time now, I watched mostly anime, some Japanese/Korean movies and a few doramas. I don't watch as many movies from the West as I did in the past, so I decided to catch up a little and rewatch some movies.

The following is a list of the last ten movies I watched and appreciated, excluding the ones I didn't like too much.

Here's my selections pretty much the best at the top and work your way down but it isn't written in stone....

I have added three honorable mentions in the attachments section that are HBO series. I don't watch "TV" per se, but I do rent these series and thought they kick righteous ass! :evillaugh:

I am going to watch Avatar as soon as it is out on DVD. I like Sci-Fi movies. I just watched Pandorum, which I liked.
I've seen The Lover, I might rewatch it though.
I've not seen Memoirs of a Geisha or Lolita, I will put them on my to watch list.
Hangover sounds kind of nice as well and I have heard Up is a good movie.
Chiaki Kuriyama was great as Gogo Yubari.
And I just watched some clip from Weeds on youtube, I like it.

I understand it needs to be seen in 3D, however cinemas do not agree with me. I could wait for affordabe 3D monitors to be sold.

Yes, the 3D was quite nice in Avatar. Not too intrusive but added some nice elements, especially with things like the holographic computer displays.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see it in Imax. There is an Imax 4 miles from me, but they didn't have it, they said they had planned to have it but couldn't get a copy. But the same theater has another Imax across the state which was showing it, but instead we get the Polar Express for the next 3 1/2 months. Yippee.

Bridge to Terabithia (Saw it on TV the other day, was expecting something quite different, but it was kind of interesting.)
Ghost in the shell 2.0
Ghost in the Shell 2 Innocence (Ok, kind of old, but I just watched them today because I bought the blue ray discs) . Innocence at times is very visually beautiful. I've always liked Mamoru Oshii's style of films, and Shirow writes a good story.
Run Lola Run I liked the replay of the same situation and how the out come can be different, that and the police when she comes out of the bank after robbing it.

I don't think I've seen a movie I appreciated for a few years! uzzled: Or maybe there's just so many bad ones that its harder to remember the better ones.

Well, my list goes:

- Leon: The Professional (all time favorite, too)

- My Secret Cache (I didn't think I would like it, and yet...)
- Snatch
- Phone (really weird Korean horror, had the flu and was hammered on NyQuil when I saw it, so that may have colored my opinion)
- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand BA-BADA-BA - BIO-ZOMBIE! (probably the funniest film I've ever seen, and a Hong Kong horror at that!)

Y'know, after thinking up this list its become pretty obvious why nobody lets me pick what movie to watch. :rofl:

Katyn (shocking, but I was less impressed because I knew all the story already)

I got saturated enough with the Avatar propaganda to NOT go on cinemas watch it. Maybe in few years...

Of the ones mentioned by others, I've seen and liked Leon The Professional, Tideland, Schindler's List, The Thing (one of my favorite sci-fi horror) and Donnie Darko.

I can give you 5 I've watched within the past month, all of which I enjoyed.

6ixtynin9 aka Ruang talok 69 [Pen-Ek Ratanaruang] (1999)

Crazy Thai action with dark comedy elements. One of my favourite directors, best known for his seminal "Last life in the Universe".

Ponyo on the cliff by the sea [Hayao Miyazaki] (2009)

My new second favourite Ghibli film (after spirited away, displacing mononoke hime). Stunning artwork (I happened to watch it in 1080p) as usual, great characters. The scene where Ponyo is running across the top of the waves will stay with me as one of the most breathtaking bits of animation I've ever seen.

Up [Pixar] (2009)

Girly tears. Pixar is love. A perfect family film.

Thirst [Chan-wook Park] (2009)

First of all: I don't like vampire films. I find the entire idea pretty tacky. That said, this film is pretty good even with the whole vampire thing. This is still the worst Chan-wook Park film I've seen.

The Hangover (2009)

Well written, well executed, fun little popcorn film.

Making movies is pretty hard, so I appreciate them all to some extent, save maybe a handful of them...

So the last 10 I've seen:

GIJoe: 60 - Extremely dumb movie, but I liked some of the action scenes better than anything in Transformers or TDK
Splinter 80:Cool monster movie, tried to beat it's budget limitations building tension and suspense.
Terminator Salvation: 75 - T2 had some iconic catchphrases and T3 was entertaining, but they shouldn't exist at all, I wanted the man vs machine futuristic movie all this time and this was actually close to delivering it... did not have Cameron's magic, but was a fair movie.
Zombieland - 88 : Surprising movie, scenes were produced as serious horror but the post production effects added humor to it. Dunno why, but I could see every surprise coming... but it was still good.
Sororoity Row 40 - Made me laugh
Quarantine 80: Not in the same league as REC, but had its moments, waaay better than that overrated BWP.
Hills Run Red 65: Another self referential slasher, not bad but seen that done gazillions of times.
Last House on the Left 60: Never been a big Craven fan, but this one did what it wanted to do, and was more or less entertaining.
4bia 90: Thai horror anthology, a couple of stories were pretty good...
Pirates XXX & II 65: What can I say, the IV influx is dying and I had to use my rapidshare account for something -I FF the porn parts, the rest was better than the Disney flicks.

I just watched The Hangover, the most mentioned if I'm not mistaken and it is indeed a well written, well executed, fun little popcorn film.

Girly tears. Pixar is love. A perfect family film.

If ya ever feel the Girly tears comin' on, Uncle Aqua has a nice, perverted (with a slightly fermented sweaty odor wafting from me underarms) hug for ya.

Oh! Oh! Slumdog was excellent!

That reminds me, I thought The Story of Anvil was pretty damn entertaining!

But if documentaries count, then my list changes uzzled:

Speaking of which, if anyone hasn't seen "City of God" RUN, literally run (even if you're barefoot on a wet tile floor) and pick up or rent that movie! The movie is pretty damn good, but the bonus documentary about the police/gang warfare in Rio is crazy!

the Hangover very similar(sp) penthouse? Movie w/ lg Lawn dogs (misha) and My Girl. good damn movie. my girl 2 SKIP! and Gaby is sooo cute in Uncle Buck.
Good source for many foriegn and indie films is alt.binaries.movies.thelostmovies in the news. I'm gonna check out '...anvil' city of god and v is for venddetta, first then watch all Reptiloid, chompy(all hail!), and mushibito's lists in full. promise!
