Continued from the following thread as to not get off topic. Anyone is of course free to chime in.

https://www.akiba-online.com/threads/low-quality-jav-videos.1618145/

@Inertia, when you say you’ve mentioned to others, you mean to say you’ve mentioned to other studios to move their disc pressing to Japan? If so that is unlikely to happen as they are in the same game as anyone that downloads something from here or other like places. They are trying to save money. Not sure if that makes your efforts funny, ironic, or wasteful. As for being labeled an Industry Killer? That’s a bit of a blanket statement don’t you think? You haven’t compared the number of posts I have compared to the other guys that spit out wave after wave, day after day of watermarked titles. It is obvious you didn’t bother, otherwise you would have mentioned them instead of conveniently applying that moniker to someone that happened to be in that thread.

If you meant you’ve mentioned to other members here about purchasing instead of the shared option, again, not likely to happen for the same reason.

You’re right, my sharing isn’t helping the industry, but in a drop in the bucket kind of way, please. I know darn well my sharing isn’t damaging it to whatever extent you have in mind, believe me. You know nothing regarding my activity aside from what you see on these pages. I purchase (yes, actually PURCHASE) far more JAV titles than I share. If you did some digging and/or research you would see that I’ve long since stopped posting titles that I thought would be liked. I was never a blanket daily uploader like the watermark jocks. I would share things I thought others would like and hadn’t been shared before. That stopped a while back because I just don’t have the bandwidth (both physically but mainly time/energy-wise) and I’ve since just answered requests here and there. And again, only because I had them on hand because I had already purchased them. I’m not a rich man by any means, but I’ve shared only perhaps 5% of the titles I’ve purchased. I certainly don’t make whatever you consider pocket change off of them, either. Everyone ops for the free downloads so I get nothing for any sold memberships, if that’s what you’re referring to. Ha! It is in no way my goal at all.

Peace and well wishes, my friend.

My apologies if I upset you, but I still see you are uploading to JAV Library going by the link in your sig. You're right in that uploading a movie every few days is a drop in the bucket compared to other guys, but why not drop it to 0?

Consider making a review site to show off the movies you want people to see and link back to their listings at R18 using their affiliate program. It's a lot more helpful than simply uploading the whole movie with a few screenshots.

I know you're a well-respected poster at A-O. I remember your 60 FPS testing threads from awhile back. Very cool stuff. Since you are so respected, consider taking a stand and try out that review site idea. I don't see anyone else doing it and since so much JAV is released, having sites dedicated to showing off what's best can be a worthwhile and legal venture.

You didn't upset me, friend, I just wanted to remove what I perceived as off topic commentary to another place. Guess we disagree on that and that's okay. :D

I've slowed down considerably as of late but still feel the need to "help out" here and there. I like your idea. Maybe someone will take up that mantle some day. You know the irony is the reason I also post on JAVLIBRARY is because I can't stand others beating me too it. Haha!

Sorry, I don't check this sub-forum often. A-O always loads real slow for me for some reason (I think it's something to do with how they handle SSL) and sometimes pages won't load or A-O's main page will just load instead.

Yes, I think review sites would be a great idea and I'm sure R18 or any other legit paysite would love having movies promoted that way. I can be grumpy and I do apologize, but working with many studios on a first-name basis shows me how much they struggle nowadays. All these file locker sites really hurt them which is a reason why AV may be more prevalent than ever, but outside of huge companies like the studios DMM and SOD owns, the numerous indy ones are all working on shoestring budgets. Patrolling their content can be really costly and some just don't have the technical know-how as well.

Talking about JAV is great, but it's incestuously mixed so much with piracy that it can be very frustrating to see threads (for example) talking about how much praise so and so actress receives followed by illegal links to her movies. Go to reddit.com/r/movies and you only see people talking about movies, not providing links to them. That's what I'd love to see more of at least in the JAV Discussion subforum here.

So yes, I apologize for going a bit off tangent both in this thread and the original one and I'm glad you're not upset.

There is nothing wrong with Akiba-Onlines' load times on their end. I should know, I surf here via Tor and that means I come here from ISPs' located around the globe, usually changing locations often in the same visit. Upload speeds vary here but that is due to server load I would think (and sometimes my connection speed). When was the last time you upgraded your modem? Surprising enough if you are having issues with load times you just might need your Internet Service Provider to check your connection and if they supplied your modem for you then save up a few dollars and get a good one.

As far as visiting a site where porn is shared and then bitching about piracy....well that is just bad form dude, even if you got legitimate gripes (and I am not saying that you do). I love that assumption that if it wasn't shared for free then people would pay for it. That statement may be found in an argument about legalizing prostitution but it really is just a baseless assumption on the industry as whole. Movie industries are reporting record earnings and some of the most pirated movie releases have also seen "billion" dollar earnings but there is no solid evidence that everyone who downloads media for free would pay for it instead of doing without.

I will not go into a lengthy tirade on "piracy" (as much as I would love to) but I will state a fact: if it can be shared digitally it is unbelievably dense to think it cannot or will not be copied and shared for free. Companies that refuse to take this into account are the ones that are failing to read the market and adjust accordingly. Whether it is right or wrong is inmaterial from a business standpoint. From a business standpoint the question is how to make money regardless of whether or not the media is pirated. When digital media first appeared (we are talking radio and television here folks), long before the internet, they found sponsors and advertised as part of the entertainment. They adapted to a market that in all other sense was a free one. If you owned a tv set or radio and got a signal you watched/listened free of charge. That was good business sense and that is the type of thinking that is needed now not this whining and crying about copyright infringement that is so often heard today.

Ceewan:

I'm on a gigabit fiber line in Japan. A-O's the only site I have this issue with and I wish I knew why.

You're right that big movie studios are reporting record earnings but you seriously cannot equate big western movie studios like Warner Brothers with tiny Japanese AV companies. That's not even an apples to oranges comparison. The amount of people needed for a production, the pay for the big names for both actresses and famous production staff, etc. is totally different.

You're right that if it's available digitally, it'll also be stolen (and let's not start a 'you can't steal data, only copy' argument). That doesn't mean you should though and I won't go any further in this thread about it.

Not sure why you are having issues with just this site, sounds like you are getting throttled for some reason. Sry, I could not help you there.

As far as making money off of digital media the concepts are basically the same whether you are a big time studio or a small Indie outfit, there is no denying that. It is about innovation, not about big budgets. That kind of limited thinking is self-defeating and why some small companies succeed and why some fail.

I will admit that there is nothing to be gained from trying to educate or even just broaden your view on the subject of "intellectual copyright". You have already made up your mind on the issue and nothing I say will change that. However, this is a forum where we can air our opinions and you were kind and generous enough to allow me the last word on the subject so I will indulge myself a bit.

The first problem here is the term "stolen". That implies that somebody took what was not theirs as well as implying that somebody has less than they once had. If I buy something than it becomes mine and I can do with it as I please. Any argument to the contrary, like most current intellectual property laws do, is in direct conflict with much older and established laws and doctrines concerning property rights. So if I want to make a "copy" of digital media I purchased I am actually creating something new from something I own. I did not take anything from anybody nor is anybody missing anything. If I want to "share" what I "own" for free with others then I have that inalienable right.

If I buy a car from someone do they have the right to tell me what I can do with it? How many people can ride in it? How often or where I can use it? If I buy a chair from someone do they get to tell me who can sit in it? Would not I have the right to give both the car and chair to anyone I want or share the use of the same with others? Does a grocery store have the right to tell me how to prepare my food or who sits at my table?

Food for thought.

Actually, I realized I only experience the slow-page loading issue when I am logged in to A-O. I tried in both Firefox and Chrome and when logged out or using a private tab, the site loads quickly. It's really strange and no other BBS has this issue with me.

The pages usually hang for 20-30 seconds before: either loading (great!), loading a blank page, or loading the main A-O index page.

You should post your problem in the "bugs" section so it might come to the attention of the admin. My only guess now is that AO itself is throttling your connection due to you visiting here at non-peak hours for Japan (maybe you work the late shift?).
