JAV VR: News, comments about releases, recommendations, hardware

I'm sure I'm not the only one refreshing every day to see if there's any new announcements from Idea Pocket or S1 - the golden week really messes with releases for pretty much the entirety of may. Good thing that i have a pretty big backlog to go through in the meantime.

For better news, I'm happy to see Hasumi Kurea come back from retirement, she got out of the business just as VR scenes started getting good. She's not wasting time either, already 3 VR releases KAVR-481, CJVR-055, and EBVR-125. Although in the last one she's wearing a strap-on so it's definitely not for everyone
Yeah, I've been checking quite regularly too although not exactly every day.

Interestingly enough, Arisu Mai is back in VR. Well, she was been in some VR last year but they were some unusual group activity ones. This is her first solo VR in a while. Shame its by some weird ass studio which I can't normally be bothered with. What's this Aqua Gal? Here's hoping she goes back to making VR with SOD and Kawaii instead.

Yeah I don't know what's up with that studio, all their releases use the same outdated setup and terrible angles. I learned to just ignore any releases that start with letters AQU. it's a shame, because they work with some models that i like.

But what's going on this month? Did all major studios decided to take a prolonged vacation? I thought golden week was long over. There's nothing in the upcoming releases I'm looking forward to

Technically, its really only S1 and Idea Pocket still on a break. Surprisingly its not quite yet a month since the last S1 VR release. Its almost coming up to 2 months since the last Idea Pocket one though. Not going to count that compilation release.

Honnaka and Kawaii already resumed VR releases, just that they're not as active as before. Moodyz seems to be back but their VR pacing has always been slow so I guess its not unusual.

In the end, what I predicted has come true: that cancer called SAVR has destroyed JAV VR. By flooding the market with three or four trashy movies a day—which overshadow the titles released by others—it has driven the rest of the market out of business.

A year and a half or two years ago, S1, Idea Pocket, Moodyz, and Kawaii were releasing one movie a week. In 2026, Moodyz took two months to return from the Christmas break, and now it’s been gone for another month. S1 for over a month, Idea Pocket for two months. They care so little about the VR market that they don’t even bother to keep movies in reserve for Golden Week.

The movies from S1, Idea Pocket, Alice Japan, or Kawaii in 2026 have been utterly mediocre, boring, lacking in immersion—just cheap carnival costumes. They’ve even eliminated the face-to-face missionary position. And they’ve cut the runtime to 60 minutes, so there aren’t varied sexual positions, or they’re very short.
Before, they had their own personalities; you could tell when a movie was from S1, Alice, or Kawaii... Now you could slap a SAVR label on all of them—or even an Aqua one—and they’d fit perfectly, because they’re all the same: costumes, the camera a meter away, no close-up missionary.

Realistic, intimate virtual reality—the kind where you had normal sex with a naked woman and your brain believed it, because it was a situation that could actually happen—is dead. Now they’re just girls in costumes or with clothes glued to their bodies, acting like simple porn stars, not like real women.

I used to be able to find one or two movies a week that I Iike: VRs featuring a naked girl in a face-to-face missionary position, without any oils, that ridiculous “ahegao” trend that’s all the rage right now, or other fetishes. Now if I find one or two a month, I consider myself very lucky. Out of one hundred VRs a month being released...

I buy quite a bit on Fanza, and I’ve noticed a massive drop in people’s interest. Before, moderately popular movies had 15 or 20 reviews. Now they have 4 or 5. Before, all my reviews—positive or negative—got some votes. Now many get none. Same with other people’s reviews on the same title. People don’t even bother checking the reviews anymore.

Are people uninterested because the movies are trash where every title is a carbon copy of everyone else, or do the studios make trashy movies because there’s no market for them anymore? I don’t know.

Right now, throughout the entire month of May, JAV VR is dead. SAVR has killed it. I don’t know if S1 and Idea Pocket will come back and take it seriously, or if they’ll just be the same mediocrity they’ve been all of 2026. For my part, I’m already on the verge of stopping buying and watching JAV VR, because the movies I like hardly exist anymore.

When you look at the JAV VRs from 2023 and 2024—100 to 120 minutes long, with an introduction and a plot, immersive, shot with the camera half a meter closer than today, featuring varied sex scenes that lasted more than three minutes and were actually enjoyable—and compare them to what we have now... it’s enough to make you cry.

I didn't come here to criticize, but after seeing your comments, I couldn't resist. Sorry...

I came to mention a new AI that will interest those of you who are removing censorship from movies. It’s called Jasna, and its main strength is that it’s 2 to 5 times faster than Lada. The results are the same, because it uses Lada to remove the mosaic, but it’s much faster because it makes full use of your card’s CUDA cores and VRAM. Strangely, with Lada you can’t remove the pixelation from certain studios, but with Jasna you can.

Untitled 4.jpg

An important point is that the AI doesn’t “make up” what’s underneath the censorship—it actually de-pixel it. Sometimes there’s lingerie underneath the mosaic, and when it’s de-pixelated, you can see that lingerie. And you can see the condom—or not—depending on whether it’s actually there. So it’s not a matter of pasting in a fake penis or vagina, as was done before. It's not the original because the mosaic erase it, but the AI's reinterpretation is quite accurate, because the mosaic retains information about what was behind it—based on the color, size, and shape of the pixels, etc.

Untitled44.jpg

In exchange, Jasna only works with Nvidia cards running the latest drivers, and the first time it adjusts the AI to your PC in a process that takes between 15 minutes and an hour, but you only have to do it once.

The first time, you also need to run a System Check that tells you if you have the correct drivers, and make a couple of changes in the Nvidia Control Panel. Everything is very well explained. Its only limitation is that, for now, it doesn’t work with 8K movies, so only 4K versions.

Untitled 1.jpg

There are several options you can customize, but it explains what each feature does. Everything is very straightforward, along the lines of “if you enable this, it’s faster but less accurate.” So it’s very easy.

Having a movie render in just one hour instead of five is a huge improvement—it’s definitely worth it if you’re using Lada.

Oh wow, I was thinking of not buying a new PC yet, wait a bit for new fabs to come online to see if SSD and RAM prices become a little more reasonable.

But not this is making me think I should get an upgrade. Get a card with proper CUDA haha.

Does all this need licensing BTW? Or free unlike Topaz?

Welcome back.

Haha, its as I said before - what's immersive to you can be boring for others. If everyone made VRs the way you like, I think more than half of Japan would have tuned out by now cos you have a very specific formulae and not everyone enjoys that.

But I generally get what you mean. I'm also not very impressed by this year so far and I'm far more flexible than you are when it comes to VR. It's almost halfway through the year and there aren't really that many titles I'm impressed with or like until I can list them. Nice thing about having XBVR is I can easily filter out what was made this year. Feb was probably the most productive month for me.

Jan 2026
SAVR -956 - Sakura Yuno.
KMP does make something decent at times. This was great. Its super popular on Fanza and Yuno was amazing. A bit iffy on the positions but overall I liked this a lot. Has a great F2F cowgirl.

Feb 2026
3DSVR-1871 - Arakawa Sora
She's one of the most beautiful newcomers to SOD. My only complaint here is she looks a little big, not sure if its cos of the camera or she's not a small woman. But she looks great.

HNVR-171 - Whole bunch of lolis
I watch this just to share a hottub wth a bunch of cute girls. Don't give a shit about the sex scenes.

PXVR-378 - Hanamori Kaho
I think from your Fanza reviews, you thought one Kaho PXVR title was better than the other. Not sure which but I enjoyed both anyway. Fancy that - I didn't like P-Box before but they did a decent job with Kaho.

MDVR-394 - Kira Kira + Touno Karin
2 cuties fighting over your attention? Goddamn, I'm totally down for this. Probably my 2nd fav VR of the year so far. And it was done quite well too. Thank goodness they did not let Zampa near this.

KAVR-489 - Yukishiro Miho + Azakaze Yui
Miho has enhanced boobs. Normally, I would be bothered by this but both girls look amazing taking off and trying lingerie. There's no denying Miho has a really nice ass even if I'm not fond of her breasts. Yui is just so incredibly sexy in this one and I can barely take my eyes off of her. They would team up against in KAVR-490 but I like this title better. I can watch Yui strip and put on lingerie all day.

Mar 2026
URVRSP-540 - Yukishiro Miho + Onosaka Yuika
Rare lesbian action going on here in VR. Again, totally willing to overlook fake boobs just for that.

PXVR-392 - Hanamori Kaho
The other Kaho P-Box. I think I liked this one better cos its F2F cowgirl is better.

Apr 2026
MDVR-419 Inoue Momo
The VR I have been waiting for. I can die a happy man now. Has its flaws, Moodyz really needs to work on image quality. but this is VR of the year for me.

May 2026
SAVR-1044 - Yuzuki Ria
Frankly, this title wasn't that great. Ria isn't smiling like the titles I liked her in. But she does look amazing trying on bikinis in front of the mirror and that's reason enough for me to watch this.

At this point of time, I would normally have maybe 20+ titles that I quite enjoy. This is quite sparse for me, and I won't say I even really like some of these titles I picked out. I just happen to like some aspects of them.

Where the hell are Ishikawa Mio and Kawakita Saika? What happened to them?

It's free and open-source.
Keep in mind that in VR, it has to deblur the left and right eyes, and for it to look perfect, it has to de-pixel them equally; otherwise, strange things happen. Sometimes it looks great in motion, like in those screenshots, and other times it gets distorted and there's nothing you can do about it until the AI is trained further. It's just a matter of try and see what happens.

There’s an app called VR Video Toolbox that, before removing the censorship, separates the left and right eyes and processes them individually. For some studios, it first converts the image to fisheye mode because it detects the mosaic better that way. You get better results, but even though it just added Jasna—in addition to Lada—Jasna doesn’t work for me.

But using just Jasna works pretty well.

Hello Walle12, i had a feeling you were still lurking here
While my opinion is not quite as bleak as yours, it definitely seems VR in general is in a bit of a decline. For most of 2026 releases were pretty frequent from IP, S1 and Moodys, S1 even releasing twice a week for a while. This last month has been an anomaly, I'm still waiting for new announcements but in the meantime i still enjoy works from studios like Madonna, Unfinished or Kawaii. (Even some KMP, there's some hidden gems there if you look hard enough)

Where the hell are Ishikawa Mio and Kawakita Saika? What happened to them?
Shooting 2d scenes is what they're doing, still quite active there. We're definitely due for VR comeback though

Hey Walle! Great to see your comment here.
Was Jasna a straightforward installation? Since I don't have Lada compatible GPU, I spun up a cloud based VM a few weeks ago to see how well it could depixalate some of my favorite releases, and I just couldn't get it working properly based on the available installation instructions. Your samples look awesome. I'd like to give this a try. Do you have some recommended settings you could share?

What I've noticed over the years is that there are definitely trends, where a particular storyline, certain physical characteristics of actresses, and filming styles, tend to dominate the market for a period of time. There are time periods stretching many months when I don't care for any of the releases due to a particular trend. I don't think the industry is dead, I think it's just evolving. Wait a bit, and things will change.

not walle but i tried it out on my 3090 yesterday. setup was super simple, just download the release on github and run the gui itll tell you what you need to do. results were pretty good but vr was a bit finicky, I did try the vr to fisheye conversion mentioned in the github issues before running jasna but it still failed to detect a lot of mosaics with a bit of tweaking. haven't yet tried out the vr toolbox mentioned but it seems vr is a planned feature for jasna which is nice :)

Installation is straightforward, but to configure it, you need to change a couple of settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel related to CUDA—I’m not sure if that’s possible with a cloud VM. You’ll also need the latest NVIDIA drivers.

The custom settings depend on your PC, because each one uses more or less VRAM. I have everything set to maximum because I prefer it to be more accurate at removing mosaics, even if it takes longer. But with 4K movies, it already fills up the 16 GB of VRAM on my card. At 8K, I’d have to lower some settings, but it doesn’t work for me at 8K.

As I said, the setup is very simple; each option explains what to do, with messages like “if you enable this, you’ll use more VRAM but it’ll be faster” or “if you have 8 GB of RAM, set this value; if you have 12, set that one,” etc. It’s easy.

esults were pretty good but vr was a bit finicky, I did try the vr to fisheye conversion mentioned in the github issues before running jasna but it still failed to detect a lot of mosaics with a bit of tweaking.

The problem with VR is that it uses two images—one for each eye—but at different angles to create the 3D effect. So for it to work, the AI has to de-pixels the two mosaics in exactly the same way, which doesn't always happen.
First, it depends on the studio. There are 3 or 4 different mosaics (square, cube-shaped), and some work better than others. It works best with VR content from major studios. With others, it struggles a lot. It also depends on the distance. If the mosaic is too close or too far away, it doesn't work as well. It works much better at a medium distance, and the mosaic in the center of the camera.

The best results are obtained when there’s nothing moving beneath the mosaic. For example, the screenshots from my previous post. In those, the motion is perfect; it’s like an uncensored movie. But as soon as there are fingers or penises, everything gets complicated. Sometimes it does it right:

Untitled 1.jpg

Other times fingers appear and disappear, or get shorter or longer. Or a double penis.

Without hands, the blowjobs look almost perfect:

Untitled 41.jpg

With hands, the fingers almost always get distorted, as you can see in this screenshot:

Untitled 31.jpg

Sorry if it looks blurry. That’s the problem with modern VR—it’s forgotten about immersion, and the blowjobs are 500 kilometers away, with the actor lying down, and the 2D screenshot is way too far away.

In my case, even with some glitches, it’s still better than the mosaic, but it’s true that sometimes you have to discard it completely.

I recommend using VR Studio Toolbox because, while you could use Jasna or Lada in it (though Jasna doesn’t work for me), it’s designed for VR. It uses tricks like separating the left and right images and processing them separately, or applying fisheye effects in certain studios—all automatically. It takes five times longer than using Jasna alone, but the results are slightly better.

I’d like to clarify something about the mosaic. Although I said that the AI removes the pixelation and reveals what’s underneath, that’s not actually the case. The mosaic blends into the video and erases what’s beneath it.
What the AI does is analyze those pixels and try to guess what’s underneath, and then it draws it. The AI's reinterpretation is quite accurate, because the mosaic retains information about what was behind it—based on the color, size, and shape of the pixels. It’s not the original image, but it’s almost identical.

In this example, you can see how the two fingers behind the mosaic are almost identical to the fingers outside of it:

Untitled 7.jpg

If it looks blurry, it's because it's far away and you need to zoom in on the screenshot.

For me, at least, it’s better than the mosaic, and in motion it looks completely realistic:

Untitled 8.jpg

In this screenshot, the actor's fingers and penis look almost perfect:

Finally an update from S1, and with their number one superstar no less: SIVR-490 featuring Seto Kanna
sivr00490jp-1.jpg

It seems like it's a GFE date kind if scene, those are usually quite immersive so I'm looking forward to that. From the description: Holding hands, gazing into each other's eyes, being confessed to... A night of flirting on your first overnight date

Its directed by my nemesis Zampa. Although to be fair to him, that date VR he did with Saika was actually quite good.

But this is just 86 mins. About 16 mins shorter than Saika's. That's the length of an entire scene.

Whenever Zampa has less time to work with, he tends to squander it with nonsense like 1 scene entirely dedicated to a blowjob. So I won't get my hopes up.

Incidentally, I'm looking forward to Yagi Nana's next VR - whenever that might be. Saw a few of her recent 2D vids and it seems she put on some weight. Not quite back to her old self, but at least not as skinny anymore.

I don't have the equipment or skills for decensoring, but it looks like you guys are well on your way. Because of that, I wanted to share something I just found. This guy has made some scripts that will generate alpha passthrough masks from videos. He claims it works better than the AR put out currently by the studios.
Since it seems that passthrough video is non-existent in JAV, I thought one of you might be interested. I have no connection to this at all.

Since it seems that passthrough video is non-existent in JAV, I thought one of you might be interested. I have no connection to this at all.

That's pretty cool. But, for me, part of the appeal of JAV VR is its ability to instantly transport me to various settings in Japan. The last thing I want to see is my own living room. lol
