Japanese horror film idea

I write screenplays as a hobby and I had a great idea for a horror film that I thought I would share. I am curious to know what you think.

The film follows a series of murders involving living doll collectors, that is Japanese men who collect custom-made life-size dolls of actual girls (that are of course anatomically correct for obvious reasons). The men are being murdered by the ghostly figure of a living doll come to life. The protagonist in the film is a rookie cop who is attempts to investigate the murders.

The backdrop of the story follows the story of a 13 year old girl who lives in a rural fishing community in Japan, with her abusive father. The father has sexually molested her for years and she lives a solitary, lonely existence. In order to make some extra money the father invites a doll maker to come to the house to make a cast of his daughter, however she refuses to cut her hair for the man. And so the father beats her relentlessly until finally she is killed.

Eventually the police man recognizes the girl as the girl he knew as a teenager growing up in his small town. When he investigates further he finds disturbing evidence that implicates her father. And so, in honor of the girl's memory he steals the doll and returns her to her father's home. There he confronts the father and is caught unaware and knocked out. When he awakes the father is in the process of destroying the doll when the daughter's corpse finally rises from the grave and takes her father with her back down into the ground.

So do you think it would fly in Japan? Or would it be too much? Could Japanese society accept taking a look at the seedier side of the porn industry? What do you think?

Take the sex out of it. Have the Father killed by the protaganist or the Dollmaker in one fashion or another. Make the doll, (or dolls), a serial killer of abusive or aggresive men. Add a love interest for the protaganist, maybe even include some kids of his own that he is having trouble getting along with. Spruce the idea up by filling in some details and good luck.

Are you serious?

You are insane with power. I am appealing this. In fact, let's take this outside. Really, what is your problem with me?

This is a typically stylistically Japanese horror film idea, dealing with Japanese cultural phenomenon, specifically the 'living' doll phenomenon. The film would also deal with the Japanese Idol industry to a lesser extent.

And the post is also a discussion of whether Japanese culture could deal with themes of this type in a film. Are there other films that have been made that deal with this subject matter? etc.

Sex is the central theme. Otherwise, why would there be a doll. I had thought about having the cop partnered with a female detective. The doll character has a, or had a crush on the cop at one point, so there might be a dynamic of the doll wanting to kill the female detective also.

This however is your own fiction only and really has nothing in common with real Japan except the idea of the location, the live sized sex dolls and the environment.

There are sex doll collectors outside Japan as well, so the location can be put everywhere. It´s just a small correction of the script.

So this is a discussion about the idea of your script, not about Japan.

For me it´s the same as If I had a japanese car I would drive (manufactured in Great Britain) and would start a discussion about Japan. The car indeed is a European car just with a japanese brand name only...

'Living' dolls, that is life-size dolls created out of molds of living girls, of both women and young girls, with anatomically correct features, are not to my knowledge made anywhere outside of Japan. If they are please cite your source.

to be more precise:

a discussion about the movie "Last Samurai" would be correct in a movie discussion section (if we had one), as it is a Hollywood production, not in Japan discussion.

I moved your thread here as we are dicussing the idea of your script (just like a Hollywood production nothing Japanese).

A general discussion about Samurai would be well posted in the Japan discussion section though, even a discussion about real crime in Japan (although these threads mostly - and often correctly - are made in the news section).

I seem to get the impression that the contents of your thread for you is not half as important as the discussion about the section I moved it to / the section you originally posted it...

Troll, that's a little bland for a horror story, IMHO
sure, the doll adds some creeps, and there is the resurrection of the girl, but that's all; it could esily be categorized as a thriller

would you also elaborate a little about this, please?
