Gravure vs AV

I came across this picture the other day and assumed this was a gravure idol; she's not she does AV. My question would be how does a buxom beauty like this slip the net and end up doing JAV whilst the likes of Mitsuki Hoshina (cute but goofy looking) can make a living doing gravure?

That's a pretty girl!

BTW I believe that the higher value the girl is (better body, face, attitude, etc.) the more she can earn doing less pornographic stuff (doing porn would crash her income). One problem with gravure or softcore is that Japanese genital censorship ruins this :( When you are admiring a girl, all of her assets are important and pixelation is an unwelcomed distraction!

Your post(s) contain so many different misconceptions I don't know where to begin. Yes pretty face and tits are advantageous in both JAV and gravure career, and maybe (a big maybe)... a lower rank gravure idol may be prettier than a mid rank JAV idol. But there's absolutely no such "rule" that the prettiest girls all prefer to be gravure models, and JAV only get to pick the leftovers.

This hottie, I'm almost sure, is Asuna Kawaii. Yes her tits are magnificent, super soft and jiggly. This particular picture most likely come from ABP-755. Her pretty face and chest gets covered with many cum shots in the final epic gangbang. One of my all time fav JAV.

There's no rule but that's what I observed. Pretty girls on average get more money not by showing all of their assets, and often when they go hardcore, that signifies the end of their career. I think one reason is because gravure and softcore are far more socially acceptable than hardcore, so those pretty girl can be far more popular.

Also the prettier a girl is, the higher the price she commands. You can also see that in JAV, the pretty actresses often do just vanilla stuff with pro actors.

BTW she's Nikado Yume (also a JAV actress).

Oops... my bad. I hadn't noticed they look so like each other.

Anyway I don't know where you get the idea gravure models makes more money than JAV idols. Actually I don't even know how to make a comparison? Kinda like saying jazz musicians make more money than classical musicians? (or the other way around) how do you even make a meaningful comparison?

Yes other things you said are true (and obvious): Pretty girls make more money, JAV/Uncensored/unbanning etc are mostly one-way street. But it doesn't mean pretty girl would only choose JAV after failing in gravure.

What is kinda true is that many scouts would tell a girl that "you can make money without taking off your cloths" to trick them to, at least, leave them a phone number. And then over time, work them to agree to do JAV, maybe getting them a few almost-meaningless (income-wise) modelling gigs, maybe skipping modelling entirely to skip to JAV.

There are gravure idols stayed pure throughout their tenure, while some has slip into JAV but not all of them. Having had many japanese friends, some just want to do it for short-term money eg. while they study.

Some are tempted to more money and thus gone into JAV. e.g. Japanese race queens some needed more money like AYA went into JAV but eventually committed suicide. Japanese living standards are expensive and many of these girls from different prefecture who seeks city life away from their home find it hard to make it in big cities, and getting into gravure is a normal thing for many girls, and it is up to them if they decide to venture in deeper and get more money, the more AV movies equals more pay usually at their first year as they are being promoted heavily by the studio.

I still disagree with some points (and impressions) you made, but bleh it's not very productive for both you and me to get into a debate.

Since I don't follow gravure (and the general non-JAV celeb circle in Japan) I'd ask your expertise. Take a typical year, how many gravure idols are active with a 10 year career? How many active gravure idols can make a decent living from her modelling income only? How many new ladies who are 25 years or older can debut in gravure and get a 6-month guaranteed contract? Take a typical year in the past, say 2015, make a list of the top 10 idols in gravure, how many are still active in gravure after 5 years (2020), how many are still in celeb circle (say transitioned to J-pop, J-drama etc) in 2020?

I truly don't know these answers and would defer to you. But the same question for JAV is .... well... not great, I'd admit not great. But the reality is not so cruel either. Entering JAV industry carries a very serious stigma, it's not a secret. But if you take a girl X, who's very hot, and if she choose gravure, sure that makes sense. Or if she can accept the stigma, choose JAV, with or without trying or considering gravure, well it's perfectly understandable too.

Linking JAV to suicide is a false topic also, yes some JAV idols ended up in prison or murdered or suicide. But considering suicide rate for Japanese women in many different sectors are also very high.

No worries, everyone is entitled to their opinions, that's why it's a forum, and I appreciate thoughts and opinions from others. I too don't follow so much of gravure, unlike my younger years I collect VCD of my favourite Super GT race queens, that's was like in the 90s. Whatever it is, all is entertainment and for our viewing pleasure. We are bitches and slaves to someone, we gotta put food on the table.

Cool man. keep it going.
