Dot-BIT, anonymous to build a network and blocking DNS SOPA

The legislative hearing this week for possible approval of SOPA
and E-PARASITES basically mean censorship online, and these terms
have almost always been accompanied by some action or movement
in the network.

Dot-BIT is the response to SOPA, a project to create a new Internet
domains outside the control of ICANN. A project that uses proxies
encryption and a small collection of DNS servers to create a section
of domain addresses on the network where each can be moved and
treated anonymously.

The group is carrying out the project thus seeks to avoid the threat
that could come in the form of blocks of domains that would make the
DNS more vulnerable.

Thus far, they say, more than 4,000 domains were registered in
Dot-BIT based in turn on top-level domain TLD.

These domains are only visible to people using the proxy recorded
in the distributed database project or for those who use one of
two public DNS servers of the same.

Dot-Bit.jpg

As equipped, Dot-BIT is not exactly a darknet as could be Tor, but is
not part of the open Internet. Its operation is derived from Namecoin
P2P technology derived in turn from that used in the famous Bitcoin
currency.

As Bitcoin, the system is driven by so-called encrypted tokens
namecoins which is the name of the currency. You then buy an
address in the space.

The entry cost is actually fairly low, registering a new
domain namecoins costs about 1.6, about 5 U.S. cents.

Obviously, the record will not be associated with the name
address or phone number but would be linked to the encrypted
identity anonymity.

Once the user has registered a domain, may be assigned by sending
an update request in JSON format, mapping DNS server domain or IP
address providing hosting and names that are distributed through
Dot-BIT proxies and public DNS servers.

Finally, the information will spread through P2P systems.

This is more or less Dot-BIT. Its construction was created with the
idea that other services like Tor, would be illegal through laws such
as SOPA.

The project allows anonymous and secure information exchange
will not be infallible DNS but not necessarily avoid censorship.

As simple as placing the law as white SOPA on these top-level domains
are removed from the sleeve to block a new regulation through ports or
other internal DNS filtering tool.

People must be aware of this especially about the Internet Censoreship that is being pursued.

I tried to inform some people, but they just "meh.. who cares" what a bunch of fools.
They dont know that if the BILL is passed.

No More Porn for them.
No more free movies for them
No more free serials and applications for them.

this is good to know, thank you wokkonno

Q
How would a user go about setting up this Dot-BIT?
would it just be a simple matter of swapping out the DNS addresses in your computer network settings and adding the address Dot-BIT provides? Or will you need to run some kind of software also?

In contrast to using the Dot-BIT solution, is the IP address at Akiba static? If so couldn't users just add the IP address to their hosts file to bypass the DNS servers? Though not sure how that would work with Proxys. In any case, if the IP here changes, we could have some kind of automated message sent to all user email addresses informing them of the change. It would not be as easy as having a working domain name, ..users would just have to keep track of Akiba's physical IP address.

swapping out the DNS addresses in your computer network settings
http://dot-bit.org/HowToBrowseBitDomains

All .bit lookups require a running instance of namecoind. Whether you delegate that requirement to a gateway DNS server or run namecoind yourself.

If you look at the project completion status, you can see that "Easy browsing" is only 20% completed. There is still a lot of work to be done for this system to become adoptable by large numbers of Internet users.

I guess in an ideal world a simple installer for every major OS would be available that would inobtrusively add .BIT capability to the entire OS networking stack without breaking anything. Open-source browsers would include their own .BIT capability, baked-in.

Rollyco, Thank you
Just wondering something about the terminology. When you say ".bit lookups" Is that just another way of saying that your browser is preforming a request by asking the DNS servers on the dot-bit networks for the address to a web site? Sort of like how a public DNS works. I'm not sure what .bit lookup means.

I understand Namecoin is a software of some kind, is this software installing the actual protocol that allows the bower to access the decentralized domain? or software for something else?

When you initialize a connection to a .COM domain name, your OS and applications will use the traditional DNS system to lookup the corresponding IP address. Something like this:

Code:
Firefox (local) <-> Your ISP's DNS nameserver (internet)

.BIT domain names are different. The IP address of a .BIT domain is stored in a decentralized P2P network, very similar to the way bitcoin works.

namecoind is an daemon process that stays connected to that special decentralized network and allows namecoin-aware software to perform IP address lookups of .BIT domain names:

Code:
Firefox (local) <-> namecoin-aware proxy software (local) <-> namecoind (local) <-> decentralized namecoin network (internet)

Of course, there are a few public nameservers that can act as a gateway to the namecoin network, which simplify your local setup (and negate some of the benefits of performing your own lookups):

Code:
Firefox (local) <-> namecoin-aware DNS nameserver (internet) <-> decentralized namecoin network (internet)

Very interesting.
Great explanation! thanks for breaking that down Rollyco.

I suppose peer to peer domain networks will be much faster then networks such as Tor as they're only transferring IP address requests and not file's and data such as music. This looks good!

Seriously, americans, I blame you.
Since the 1st hoax you must have to go out the streets and shout against those reptilians (Bush, the alcoholic, for example)
They took from your own house everything you suppose it's for you and your family, and what you did? nothing but change the channel and eat more fries and shout USA! USA!

Shame on you, the powerful America, the anti-communist that support communist people that although they don't work, they always have a card for food (Cubans) and turn an enemy country into the wealthy nation in the entire fucking world (China)

Stupid Americans, thanks for doing nothing, and keep the Illuminati agenda on schedule.

Akiba Online, it was a pleasure to know you, I'll miss you.

Well, I wouldn't call Americans stupid, if you consider ...The cars we drive, the light bulbs we use, the internet you us, the first PC ever invented.. ect ... were all invented by Americans during and after the industrial revolution. The internet was developed buy two guys from Illinois btw.
It's not that simple to just go out in the street and shout as I explain. here.

On the other hand, I can't argue with most of what you said. Americans are not doing all they should and they have made China wealthy. You are correct. Again, Thanks to Free Trade (NAFTA) too much is being produced in other country's. EVERYTHING you buy in the US is made in China, I don't care what it is there are parts inside made in china. Unless you go to Guitar Center and spend $1200+ on an American made guitar, you're getting Chinese junk, or Mexican guitars. Mexican guitars are made better then Chinese guitars. Sorry, I've been a guitar player for 20 years, someone tell me I'm wrong? lol
Most of what comes to the US from China junk. Time for the US to put an import tax on imports like Brazil does. Sorry hate me if you want.
Chinese workers are paid very little and I can only assume that many Chinese workers don't have the same pride in manufacturing that Americans Once Did When American wadges were better. I'm not speaking about all Chinese workers, there are those who do good work no question. But seriously, last week I bought two speaker stands from Guitar Center for $120. Got them home and one was tilting because the frame was made wrong. I returned them and got a new set. The second set were straight but the main mount screw was cross threaded so I couldn't mount the main leg to the base. To make matters worse the top grip pad was mounted off center, looked like hell. Made in China.. Again, hate me or love me. I'm just telling you my story. ;) This is on going pattern these days.

I'm writing about the actual generation, your ancestral people used to fight, but the actual average american the only thing they thing is in shit.
English is not my language (french indeed) but, it was clear that I didn't wrote about the creators of the former new babylon (Your country is the babylon, just in case of U didn't understand irony), your reply just bring to my comment the necessary argument: you are destroying America with the powerful weapon of mass destruction: INACTION (Faithless - Mass Destruction)
(Where are those who fought against racism? [M.L. King] or those who create the American revolution? [oh yes, revolution is communism] :pandalaugh: even the evil panda laugh at you [now the communist chinese evil panda is richer than you, thanks to the reptilian W-Bush.

If I'm not mistaking, wasn't Dr. Martin Luther King after the Civil war? If my mind serves me correct, I think it was the "white" Yankees from the north, (the Union) who fought along side with the blacks against the Confederate states in the south. Dr. Martin Luther King was a great man, and he will always have my respect, but what is your point? There's less racism in the USA than there ever was in the past. If there's anything to blame for a divided America, it's from a modern president who sells the masses on the idea that wealthy, and successful people are evil. But some of us resist the tug of popular sentiment.
By the way, you're text isn't large enough. Seriously man.

I'm writing about the actual generation, your ancestral people used to fight, but the actual average American the only thing they thing is in shit.
What ancestral people are you talking about? If you mean the American Indians, you're right, it was a shameful scar in America's history. But the nation transformed itself.
What I do remember most however is that America stood up against a Monarch and declared it's freedom in 1776.
As far as the average American, well there's a lot of misinformed people around the world in every country. I think Hollywood, along with Mass media /mass consumption has helped erode the values in America. But there are people trying to restore these values. I don't believe the country is lost. History shows that America works best under pressure, and has always come out stronger from economic catastrophes.

...your reply just bring to my comment the necessary argument: you are destroying America with the powerful weapon of mass destruction: INACTION
Inaction? I'm taking action right now by having this conversation, and informing. And how do you know what I've done, or not done? I don't mean to sound rude, I'm just saying.

:pandalaugh: even the evil panda laugh at you [now the communist Chinese evil panda is richer than you, thanks to the reptilian W-Bush.

Once again, shame on U.
Well if they're laughing at me, that would be pretty stupid. After all, I don't have any credit card debt. And I'm still a first time buyer meaning I've never bought or owned a home to categorize myself as a part of the problem... but if you say so.
It wasn't bush who started NAFTA, that allowed corporations to move off shores. "Which IS a large part of the problem. That and the fact that congresses has no oversight of the US treasury Thanks for the Federal Reserve Act of 1913". American's are starting to wake up, there is more resistance against reckless spending. "This is a good thing" Unfortunately the US has a president who has done nothing to stimulate growth. It could be buying it's oil from Canada for example. But the president is more concerned about "Not" upsetting Environmentalists so he can get all his votes for the next election, and campaign money from the Unions. He's already raised more money than in his last election and we still have till.. what.. November 6, 2012? Amazing.

Back on topic.
All these SOPA, IP act, (COICA) attempts are the result of a large and growing government. They need to fire EVERYONE in congress and set term limits for one.

Secondly, I think a good way to reform the corruption in America is to establish laws that mandate equal Air and/TV time for companion advertizements, as well as designated locations for printed posters. I won't get into this philosophy here.

Seriously, americans, I blame you.

You are better off looking in the mirror. If there is anything I hate worse than anti-american trolling it is ignorant anti-american trolling. If you don't know what you are talking about you probably shouldn't talk about it. Try getting your own government to do something about it, (anything at all would be nice), and leave the rest of us alone.

If you mean the American Indians, you're right, it was a shameful scar in America's history.

It strikes me odd how politically correct that statement is but it is not entirely factual. Scalping, for instance, was poular among American Indians. They were, for the most part, a crude, cruel and barbaric people with no written language and no centralized government. They were a classic example of a stagnate society. The wars against them were hard fought and ruthless, on both sides. I, for one, would not shame the memory of the brave nor the innocent, who lost their lives in that epic struggle by calling it a "shameful scar in Americas' history". There were horrific acts committed by both sides in that war. This is somewhat common in war as war is a horror in its' own right.

Compared to some of the less publicised atrocities in Africa by the Europeans and some of the more horrific acts in the wars on the European continent itself I really think we should have a little more perspective here.

They need to fire EVERYONE in congress

They aren't all bad. I am kind of partial to Ron Paul and will probably vote for him in the primary. On the democratic side I kind of like Ron Wyden from Oregon. Not that I agree with everything he stands for but he is consistent and seems to have real character. You can follow a congressmans voting history and get a good perspective on where he really stands on issues and whether or not he seems to be a greedy bastard or someone trying to make a positive difference as they see it.

Very true Ceewan. The shameful part I meant had more to do with the fact that we pushed them off the land and onto reservations. But you make a good point in that they were fighting other tribes before the British colonies even got there. I think it's honest to say that the Americans were very connected with their christian believes and truly believed in what they were doing ...by expanding the land ...they truly believed was the right thing for the freedom of all humanity. After all, many of these colonies were people who where previously, or had ancestors under the strict rule of a king.
One movie documentary I recommend to anyone who really wants to understand what America stood for is to watch this:
Code:
http://www.history.com/shows/america-the-story-of-us
People still need to read some history to pickup on more in depth events not covered in the movie. At least to have some idea before articulating an idea of what America stood for.

Seriously, Americans, I blame you.
I don't mean to call attention to your remark rbtroy, but I hear this remark often from none Americans. And the first thing I think people should ask themselves before making this statement is this: Why is it Americas fault for the economic failures of other nations? Some might say that it's because America controls the world currency, but how did things get that way?
From (Wars, Technology, an attitude, planning, and a strong economy from the industrial revolution before and after the great depression). People will criticize America's values, it's laws and it's economic structure, but it is those very principles and ideas constructed out of the best minds from people of all parts of the world. Yes, even the Chinese were helping to break though the rockys during the First Transcontinental Railroad project. It is the melting pot molded from people of all Races under the sun. Sadly it's being sold out thanks to Free Trade. About 15 years ago the CEO of Motorola told it's employees that America will be a service country. Lets hope it's people can prove this wrong, and I feel they will!

They aren't all bad. I am kind of partial to Ron Paul and will probably vote for him in the primary.
Very true. It's just unfortunate that this year has been difficult to find one that fills all the gaps. I guess that can be said about anything in life though.
I have to be honest, I don't know a lot about Ron Wyden, but I really liked Ron Paul. The two issues I have with him is that he is not taking the Iran issue as seriously as I believe he should. He also seems to take a more relaxed attitude on open boarders. Which is another HUGE problem in America. There are too many people working in the US under-the-table - not paying taxes because the Fed is not enforcing state's like Arizona's laws on open boarders. The Fed goes after the Police who are enforcing laws that the Fed is responsible for. It's not right. It also not right that people come in from places like India for example and don't have to pay taxes for 5 years, WTF is that? Would Germany allow this, or France? then after 5 years they get someone in their family to take over the business as a no-name business partner and go another 5 years without paying taxes, It's unreal. Why is our congress allowing this? It's no wonder why certain immigrants are buying up all the, 711's, Dounkin Donuts, Subways and gas stations. But if you're an honest abiding born American citizen, you have to pay taxes. Hell these immigrants get a $50,000 grant from the US gov for becoming a citizen, .. (Thats another topic). but what do the US born citizens get? Nothing. Thats kind of why I say get everyone out out of congress. Because none of them have a loud enough mouth to make a difference. On the other hand, you're right Ceewan, some of them truly do care, they just don't have the backing I suppose. Who knows. There are powerful forces at work. Sometimes I wonder how much control the people truly have with the Electoral College vote system. I just don't know. :(

As far as Ron Paul, I like everything else about him, he backs the constitution, and he wants to repeal the Fed Resv Act which I think is a good idea.
hehe, These topics get get long. Sorry got off topic.

I can almost guarantee that once we shrink the US gov, you will see things like SOPA dematerialize/ become less important I'm almost sure of it.
These people have way too much time on their hands, and too much help. Too many special interest groups.
