It's for SEO Keanurefresh. Though I don't see why it matters to you, unless of course you are manually typing out URLs. Then again if that's your biggest complaint, I think we are doing alright so far.

Search Engine Optimization.

I'll admit I had to look that up. :study2:
Search Engine Optimization ? You can't even search by movie code. What is the point of the search function? lol Not all videos have actresses u can search by.

Edit: You have to add two 0's to the original ID LOL And i havent even verified if this is what you do for all.

Konichiwa, Kaptain Bondage:

If I may stray from this thread's topic slightly, I wondered if we may take advantage of your general knowledge of the business.

DMM is a company we may count upon as being legitimate.

Question One:

How much of a cut does a legitimate vendor normally take from sales?

I'm wondering, because a lot of the JAV manufacturers' products are made available illegitimately, which must cut down greatly on their profits. Yet their machinery keeps churning them out, so they must also be making a lot of yen. Their avenue for collecting revenue mainly boils down to Internet sales (since video stores are no longer as popular, at least in the USA - not that one would normally find JAVs in the remaining U.S. video stores), and the only places for customers to legitimately go to would be the manufacturers' own sites, or an on-the-level vendor such as DMM.

Through Internet vendors, would the JAV manufacturer get 90%? 75%? Perhaps 50%?

This leads me to Question Two:

Since legitimate vendors are so important for the JAV manufacturers to maintain their businesses, how many legitimate vendors are out there?

And this leads me to an offshoot of Question Two, which we may label as Question Two-and-a-half:

Customers who care about making sure the JAV manufacturers get their rightful share of the money... what ways are there, if any, to determine whether a vendor is legitimate?

(I suppose one could ask the vendor, but if they are crooks, they could easily lie. The alternative would be to contact the manufacturer through their sites, but not many know Japanese, and I don't get the best feeling these manufacturers would be cooperative with their communications, especially with translated Japanese. I tried contacting a couple regarding other matters, and never received any responses.)

For example, a site that many here in Akiba-Online are familiar with (although we have far less reason to visit them these days) is:

http://www.agogo.tv

Not that you would be expected to know the answer definitively, since these are not "DMM" questions, but your educated opinion is all we've got. Would Agogo be legitimate?

I ran into this site recently, situated in the U.S.:

http://www.videomayhem.com/

I'd be surprised if they share their take with the JAV manufacturers, but I hope I would be wrong.

And... while I've got you...

One more. Would we label this as Question Three, or Question Four? I've lost count.

How diligent do you think the JAV manufacturers are in going after the illicit trade of their video products?

ありがとう, Bondage-san.

Hi Jugulear!

I'll try to answer your questions as best I can.

#1 I can't say for sure what each vendor makes as licensing deals between production companies and distributors can vary greatly. DMM has it's own production companies and we also license third party content as well. Of course we make a better profit margin on our own content than third party content.

#2 There are A LOT of production companies. If you look on our site and search by labels you can get an idea of just how many there are. There are so many so we usually deal with the parent company (which would be Makers if you were doing a search on our site) as the makers have thousands of videos where the label may only have a few dozen to a few hundred.

#3 I think Agogo tv is blocking us so I couldn't be bothered to fire up my VPN and check so I can't really comment on them.

As for videomayhem is a straight up illegal site selling fake DVD's. I can say that for sure because I'm looking at their site now and I see a bunch of our content on there that we definitely didn't authorize to sell. Thanks for the heads up though, I've passed that info along to the right parties here at DMM. (So many illegal sites even our dedicated team of copyright people can't track everything)

#4 I would say they are pretty diligent at shutting down sites and sending out notices and warnings. I would equally say that those illicit sites and pirates are diligent at hiding and avoiding takedowns as well. lol.

Thank you most kindly for answering the relentless questions I fired off your way, Captain Bondage.

As far as Question Two, yes, of course there are so many production companies. I wasn't referring to the production companies, though, but the vendors - or the ones who distribute what the production companies produce. So to my way of thinking, let's say MADONNA or SOD would be the production company, and DMM and (let's say, if legitimate, Agogo) would be the vendor, or "distributor."

Of course, the arrangements vary, but I was curious, very generally, what the standard split would be, between the production company and the vendor/distributor. Would the distributor's cut be ten or fifteen percent, let's say, or would the proceeds be split, let's say, half and half?

But you threw a monkey wrench into the works by revealing DMM is not just a "distributor" of what, say, MADONNA or SOD puts out, but DMM is actually... one of the producers, as well? I'm sure others would be curious to learn what the main DMM production company name, or names, go by. (Further complicating the issue are the sub-names, or labels, of the main companies.)

As far as, separately, licensing third party content goes, would you make us understand what that entails? Does that mean DMM goes to an established company such as, say, MADONNA or SOD, and hires their services to produce content? Or does that simply mean they produce the usual content, and DMM and the company make a deal for DMM to distribute the content?

(But that wouldn't be "licensing"... licensing is, let's say, a T-shirt company making a deal with Walt Disney to feature Mickey Mouse on the T-shirts. Make things clear, willya? Stop throwing terms like "SEO," expecting people to understand, because some of us... especially me... are not as smart as you!)

A big thumb's up for your revelations. (I'll tell you, though, I'm now even more curious about how up-and-up Agogo is. Maybe you can fire up that VPN of yours... whatever VPN means..!)

Right well. I don't know what the distributors cut is. I could find out, but its probably not information I am allowed to share anyway so I'm not going to bother.

Madonna is part of DMM. Here are a list of some of the Makers owned by DMM, though this list is wayyyyy old and not updated, at least you can get an idea. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/CA_(アダルトビデオ)

Licensing third party content is the same as any online retailer. Some porn companies will sell their content only on DMM as we have a license agreement with them. Another way is if someone makes a porn. They need somewhere to sell it. So we sell it on our site and share the profits with the producer. We don't hire their services we just distribute their content.

As for VPN and SEO and other lingo, thats what Google is for, or Siri in your apple phone. Sorry you had to type three letters into your search bar.

Sarcastic rascal, aint'cha.

Thank you for the enlightenment. Ironically, your biggest bombshell was not even in response to one of my many questions: DMM is far more than a vendor/distributor, DMM is actually a porn producer. Not just any producer either, but the shadowy power behind heavyweights such as MADONNA. Wow.

Since I shamefully opt for letting my reader do as little comprehension work as possible, evidently the "internal" companies owned by DMM are as follows (and as Captain Bondage has pointed out, there could be more by now, given that the list is outdated):

MOODYZ official site ( launched September 2000 )
Attackers official site ( handling start 2002 )
Idea Pocket official site ( handling start 2002 )
Red (RED) official website ( launched January 2003 )
Madonna official site ( established December 2003 )
Karma (KARMA) official site ( founded October 2004 )
Esuwan (S1 NO.1 STYLE) official site ( founded November 2004 )
OPERA [ Opera ] official site ( founded October 2005 )
Goro pond official site (independent from February MOODYZ 2006 years )
Premium (PREMIUM) official site ( founded March 2006 )
Shinoda project official site ( founded March 2006 )
V ( Vision ) official site ( founded October 2006 )
kawaii * ( * cute ) official site ( founded November 2006 )
Official site ( founded November 2006 ) Sunflower planning
BEAUTY official site ( established December 2006 )
Official site ( founded December 2006 ) is less than
kira ☆ kira ( Kira ☆ Kira ) official site ( founded January 2007 )
A-BOX official site ( founded March 2007 )
E-BODY (2007 Founded ) official site
Dasu~tsu ! Official site ( founded April 2007 )
Animarijo (ANIMALIJO) official site ( founded July 2007 )
Cool! Official site ( August 2007 establishment )
Official site ( August founded 2007 ) Solid
Official site ( founded March 2008 ) Anna and Hanako
OPPAI [ boobs ] official site ( founded April 2008 )
Kichu [ kitsch ] official site ( founded April 2008 )
Erection TV official site ( founded May 2008 )
Ranmaru [ Ranmaru ] official site ( founded June 2008 )
Official site ( July 2008 establishment ) Mune Kyun cafe
MUTEKI official site ( founded September 2008 )
BeFree official site ( founded October 2008 )
Official site ( founded December 2008 ) beauty
Vivian

Those are some mighty, mighty big JAV players - did anyone suspect they were all under one umbrella?

("Erection TV"? That is so... Cool! Wait... "Cool!" is another one.)

And that's not all; under the category of DMM's companies, we have what are called these "external" companies:

Dogma (Dogma) ( was a soft -on- demand group originally , but in April handling start . Independence in 2002 to February 2002 ) official site
Official website ( December 2003 start handling ) Milky pudding
West Media official site ( May 2004 start handling )
Official site ( June start handling . , 2004 was a soft -on- demand group originally ) started planning
Official site ( December handling start 2004 ) Marx Brothers
( December 2004 start handling ) Hamekkusu
Official site style art (style art) ( independent from May MOODYZ 2005 years )
CROSS official site ( released November 2005 start )
M's Video Group official website ( December handling start 2005 )
Official website ( March 2006 start handling ) Momotaro Video Publishing
( July 2006 start handling ) Finance video
Sky High Entertainment ( September 2006 start handling ) official site
Yellow (YeLLOW) official website ( March 2006 start handling )
Sekushia (SexiA) official website ( November handling start 2006 )
BRAVO ( Bravo ) official site ( founded January 2007 )
Mr. Impact (Mr.IMPACT) (2006年9月start handling )
Real digital content (RDC) (12 May 2006 start handling )
Official website ( December 2006 start handling ) aroma planning
Cinemagic official site ( July handling start 2007 )
Cinema Corporation official site ( cell division FA video publishing products (FA pro) )
Edge (which was a manufacturer of MOODYZ in originally , but independent ) official site
Vivian

Perhaps one important outcome of this newfound knowledge is that we may now better understand why "The Swimming Pool" can be used by every JAV manufacturer.

Boy... you know, one of my peeves is power concentrated in the hands of a few. Particularly in media, allowing for easier one-message brainwashing of the masses, besides the usual furtherance of an anti-consumerist monopoly. I hated it when Comcast picked up NBC/Universal, and now (on the heels of another giant consolidation deal between AT&T and DirectTV) Comcast is going after Time/Warner, which corrupt U.S. politicians, in cahoots with big business, will most likely allow. Who would have thought that sweet Japan, at least in porn, would outdo the big old capitalist USA.

Recently when I navigate from here to there within DMM I sometimes get this (5% of the time or so). Then I have to go back once and then try again. Odd...yet, scarily scary in a non-frightening kind of way...

Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at en.dmm.co.jp.

And dare I mention I was not within the en.dmm.co.jp sub-domain at all. Hmmm...

I get this, too, now. Unfortunately going back and trying again does not help.

@Naught, there is no need to visit en.dmm.co.jp, thats the whole point of R18.com

@jugulear Don't dish out what you can't take :)

This information has been publically available for a long time, hence it's on the WIKI. Regarding power being concentrated in the hands of a few; you have been no doubt enjoying JAV for a long time now and haven't been negatively impacted at all if anything you have benefited by our porn conglomerate. And yes, the swimming pool being used by every JAV manufacturer/ many locations being used over and over again is because we can share resources between companies.

You misunderstand. While browsing www.dmm.co.jp (the Japanese site) I get that error pertaining to en.dmm.co.jp. Randomly. Only getting a new IP helps.

I also experienced that a few times. In my case opening a fresh new tab or window helps (copy the address, open new tab, enter address, being happy). That really annoys me.

can I request feature ?

its really hard to subscribe to artist at the first time, you have to search by alphabet to get (+) so you can subscribe update from that actress
it would be great if the actress have individual pages and button to subscribe rather than search result like this :
http://www.r18.com/videos/vod/movie...0/price=all/sort=popular/type=actress/page=1/

thank you, and great site btw :bigthumbs:

I like to edit out the boring parts in JAVs and stick them on my iPad. How do I do this with the videos I legally bought through R18.com? This is really ticking me off.

What I've done is, for the films that I really like, buy the legal DVDs, put them in storage somewhere, often without even breaking open the shrink wrap. Sometimes I put it in the DVD player and check out the extras (Making off, deleted scenes) once. But anyway, put the disc in the top corner of closet. For actually watching (and rewatching) the film, Download the pirated version on my LAN-attached storage and enjoy that.

If you need to re-edit JAV, BT or direct download is the way to go. Pay R18 separately.

Hello everyone, been a busy few weeks. You can also ask questions about the site on our blog as we check that daily versus logging in and checking many different forums that cater to JAV.

Quick note: We currently do not support playback within mobile devices, obviously its something we are working to add in quickly. I will update the blog and send out a newsletter as soon as those features are available.

@herradura You won't be able to edit videos you download as they are all DRM protected. (I am sure some savvy users have found ways around this, but we do not support that.)
@shinigamie We are always willing to hear your suggestions for how to improve the search function. Simply saying "FIX IT!" Isn't helping anyone.
@boywantgal If you bookmark a certain product it should save correctly, but I do see what you mean and that is something we are looking into getting to.
@Lionheart1203 You can use Windows Media player or DMM Player. If you are using Mac you must use the DMM Player. Currently those are the only two platforms we support. However, that may change as we roll out support for mobile and other devices.
