I'm a fan of both so I feel I'm qualified to say neither can replace the other. Both shared a similar career launches as celeb-to-JAV, and they have similar body type and pretty face. But that's about when the comparison ends.
Yua is a winner, not that she's number 1 in any category, but she has a winner personality, Shoko is much more a princess out of her castle, refined, elegant and classy but she found herself in a world that class and nobility doesn't count for anything and she's not really able to adapt.
Yua was not at all pretty when she started and lacking any real talent. But she has superhuman determination and does whatever it takes: lots of cosmetic surgeries to start with, also taking talent lessons and learned to work the social networks. She also created and maintained many useful business relationship, using S1 as foundation or anchor for all the other non-porn money-makers. MANY of her efforts failed but she made so so many efforts that she created several money makers: JAV, social networks, PR and marketing.
Shoko was and still has the same persona as gravure model, or more accurately Shoko has the persona of an ex-top-gravure model. She is very beautiful 29 year legit celeb who's past her peak hotness age but also too proud to be do what it takes (in real life: mid-rank porn and social networks, and in JAV role: for example, as someone's house-/trophy- wife).
I love watching Shoko's JAV despite her multiple obvious cosmetic surgeries. It seems like every role she plays in JAV is infused with a bit of her real life melancholy. It makes for a very narrow style and genre of porn, I found it super fascinating to watch but honestly, it's not enough to maintain an income and prestige that keeps her happy.
I can't expect to find a replacement for her in a long time. But there's one other current idol who give me some of the same emotional attachment: Asahi Mizuno 水野朝陽. When she first came back from retirement (Dec 2020) I couldn't bear to watch her bloated figure and beatened-down-by-life tone. But 1.5 years and 16 solo titles later, (1) she seems to have lost some excess fat and regain confidence (2) now I gone back to rewatch her unretirement video with subtitle on, I understand her mindset and noticed she's also using her life experience and real world emotions in her scenes.
So while physically Asahi and Shoko are nowhere like each other, and each has her own very distinct persona, I am a big fan of both for the same reason: when they perform for the camera there's a bit of her real woman having sex, for real, in that moment.
I always prefered Shoko to Yua. I don't like Yua's acting. And the nose surgery kinda removed her "face identity". Now, she looks like any random Kpop girl.
Anyway, if Asahi lost some fat since her comeback, I might check her back. I was always a bit skeptical about her but after seeing a VR movie with her, I realized she was prettier than expected. And bonus point, she did few "bus chikan" movies

i dont know what do you like in shoko .
for me .lots of actress is not too far from this kid .
at least for my taste.

After a long wait, the Chinese soft sub came out for MIDV-099 her retirement vid. It's on topic because there's a lot of interview and conversation. It helps to understand her and especially her retirement. And after watching only a few mins with the subtitle on (can only finish after work) I think it reaffirms my impression of Shoko: she kinda blur between her real self, her persona and her role.
Her blurring between the three things is a big reason why she's not more successful, falling way way behind her competitor and friend Yua Mikami. But also this is a very special charming factor for me. Everything she is both real and fake. Take example, when ask to name some advantages she got from her career, she answered: there are three: (1) she is not shy to talk dirty anymore, (2) her body become more sensitive (meaning arousal and orgasm) (3) having many people seen her sexy body. I mean, need I say more? It's such fake and disingenuous answers! Perhaps it's what the role is calling for... the press-event is of course fake, the reporters are obiously not reporters but random staffs and friends of the production company.
I'm not sure I am making a lot of sense. I mean I don't know Shoko has a "real self" clearly distinct from this role/persona she puts in front of camera, as seen with these totally fabricated answers. Is she a bit lost of "herself" not and need to take this retirement? Is she gonna to figure something out about herself, and return to JAV??? As I said I see some parallel between Shoko and Mizuno, so it's not crazy to hope for Shoko to do a Mizuno-type of un-retirement.
