That's a great question, Darmok.
MUM made some absolutely fantastic videos. I know nothing of this myself, and I'm not referencing MUM here, but sometimes studios close because of reasons unrelated to sales. The revival of particular brands across the porn spectrum speaks to this - and in an industry that's as ... non-normal as pornography, you're not always going to get people who are emotionally or financially wise/stable.
But yeah - there are a lot of genres that seemingly don't receive much or any interest anymore. Bukkake was so popular that it was adopted as a manner of course in much of the North American porn world, even if it wasn't directly sold as such, when you get like eight plus dudes dropping massive loads on a girl's face, like, c'mon. But, from Japan these days? Pretty much nothing.
The fact that loli is likewise dropping off is unfathomable. It's like a Japanese specific product that they can produce in a manner that no one else even comes close to, from the actresses to the pace and energy of the films. I can't see that the tall, A-cup, hairy-bush webcammers that screech at their audience in Cantonese are really drying up the sales in this genre.
If there was one industry I relied on not really getting bounced around by the Onlyfans aftershocks, it was JAV. But so many of the classic studios, and so many of the best actresses, are either gone or under-utilized. It's like no one has figured out how to make a hub that represents TeamSkeet, in that, one "mega corp" that houses fifteen or twenty studios, each with a specialty, and which can give longer contracts to actresses and have them explore a whole slew of genres.
Nothing is easy - nothing is really discoverable. Everything looks like it comes from a website circa 2005 - and it seems that the producers of this content are surprised that people use the Internet, and don't go down to their favorite XXX video boutique to pick up their products.
I mean, it's not as bad as all that, but did the passion for loli just evaporate into thin air? It makes no sense that no one can keep a loli studio afloat. I'm echoing what Darmok just asked. When it comes to loli ...
