i now have moved all static files to cloudflare - in order to reduce the load and try to minimize the ddos-problems
(i hope this will help)

the problem some people now might have:
the page looks totally shit.
if this is the fact, they probably are using some proxy or service which is rated bad on cloudflare-network.
see this: https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/203306930-Does-CloudFlare-block-Tor-

so all people using tor:
i'm sorry. i won't lift up this restriction atm.
perhaps i can setup a whitelist for the tor exit nodes later.

edit
there are way to much tor-servers to add them manually to the whitelist.
and i haven't found out how to query the api in Order to add them all at one

i have found a way to query the api in order to add all tor-exit-nodes to the whitelist,
though it will take some amount of time, since i don't wanted to hit the query limit of cloudflare.
(1200 Requests in 5 minutes - and i need 1800 for the list of all exit-nodes, that are able to query the IP-Adress of cloudflare)

it's a small script, but i can run it every few days, to add the new servers.
dunno if the guys at tor want to have them (it's in fact a very sloppy and shitty script, but it works)

But i won't add all the public proxies that can be found within the internet.
For them ... i'm trying to add an information-link to get them to the challange-site of cloudflare (i think)+

edit
2/3 of all the ips are imported - now i get an error - seems like i did have reached the api limit.
what a shame :D

edit2
700 IPs remaining.
Cloudflare has stopped me from inserting more ips.
i've opened a call, especially since the error i get isn't documented in their api.

Neutral input can never hurt. Either they give you some or they don't. I would think these guys are code-junkies myself but that is just a wild supposition on my part. They did seem helpful though.

I know I have said it before but I will say it again:

Thank you for all that you do here.

fyi:
i had to disable the tagging-system, since it caused a lot of problems and timeouts (i don't know yet why)
i'll contact the developer and try to solve this.
so up till then: I'm sorry, but it will stay disabled

It's sad as I use them a lot. :( But if it puts trouble on the board...

yes. there was some strange behavious that leads the system to timeout the request on the database (i don't know yet why)
but an update or downgrade hasn't helped . so i had to disable it, until a solution is found. What bugs me the most is, that is has worked good, until the DDOS >.<

Not a bug, but an improvement: I tried to upload an image and got the following message over and over again:
The following error occurred
There was a problem uploading your file.

T-ara_Christmas.jpg
I guess I hit one of the limits. Maybe not file size (~1.6MB), but maybe picture size (width and/or height: 2835x1890). Would be nice if in such a case the message would reflect that instead of giving just a general message.

Well.....I cannot post anything with javascript enabled, doesn't seem to matter what Tor node I am using. So that means no uploads from me. Although for some reason now I can upload files without javascript, I just cannot post thumbnails or full images that way and I can only upload one image at a time. Sigh......

i've now checked this.
the max. size the server can handle, is 10MB.
larger images would be resized, but there shouldn't be a limit on the attachment sizes
the maximum filesize for every attachment-file within the board is 8MB.
the attached image has a size of 5760x1080 at 6.5MB
and i have found an error that could have gotten the same problem, that has the following:

simple answer: don't use tor.
complex answer: please try again.
it should be fixed now (was the same problem as above) - if cloudflare hasn't shut you out (there are still missing 700 ips)
if it's not working, please clear your cache.
if it's still not working, notify me please. and post send me the source-code of the page where you can't post.

clicking on your attachment, should it open in a panoramic view that fits the width of the window, if yes, objective achieved, if it should open in corresponding proportions as posted, then problem (perhaps just for me)

I use Tor because I am paranoid, and yes, it is still paranoia if people are after you. My personal safety comes first, fun second. Still.....I love this forum and have enjoyed my stay here immensely. Its' future is important to me and I understand you must take whatever measures you need to for its' protection and I support that decision.

I will pm you the source code, every page has bugs in it for me of one sort or another, especially when I enable javascript. Not quite sure how that is related to cloudfare or not but it is what it is.

nope, nada, not even close.

what i have done now:

downloaded tor-browser
opened tor-browser
installed adblock-addon
went to akiba
allow all scripts

found that you can only upload 1 file - this is due to the missing flash-plugin within tor (what is a good thing)
i hope xenforo will fix this later on and provide a html5 uploader.

but.
i'm able to add some thumbnails etc.

Bildschirmfoto 2014-12-17 um 08.50.42.png

so. any plugin you have installed?
or perhaps i haven't got an ip which makes problems with cloudflare >.<
i will refresh a few pages and see what will happen.

edit
posting still works.
sometimes it will log me out - due to the ip-change. (but this can be fixed with klicking "stay logged in")

"this is due to the missing flash-plugin within tor (what is a good thing)".

Of course it is, and even the default settings of TBB are not perfects and need manual "tunings". Using Tor and allowing the execution of scripts that can bypass all proxies and protections is meaningless. A safe board should not require any Flash, JAVA, javascript, IFRAME, FRAME, AUDIO, VIDEO. It's up to people to surf as they wish but boards' settings must also be compatible for those who prefer to take care of their privacy, safety ;)

xenforo will work without having javascript enabled.
just a few things are ... not really working.
image-uploading is one of them.

but posting etc. is working. though you can't use the WYSIWYG-Editor.

as for the upload-plugin. i'm about to test a few plugins, which will replace the flash (hopefully)

You will get this error when your ip got blacklisted on CloudFlare.

If you use tor:
Sorry. Some ips are still missing.
If you use a proxy or a vpn: please switch to another one.

I'm not able to completely disable the security checks at CloudFlare.

I'm still trying to find a solution for all.
(Though a real cdn is way to pricy )
If I find an adequate alternative, I will switch to it asap.

Until then: I'm open to suggestions.
This will take about a few days - I think.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

edit
fixed some problems.
i will try setting up my own cdn. I hope this won't be too costy :/

edit2
installed a html5-uploader. This will be active, when flash isn't available.

atm everything is AOK. Thank you very much.

offtopic
Using Tor and allowing the execution of scripts that can bypass all proxies and protections is meaningless. A safe board should not require any Flash, JAVA, javascript, IFRAME, FRAME, AUDIO, VIDEO.

That is very oldschool and outdated thinking. First off, the myth about javascript is that it does not bypass your proxy by default. This does not mean that it cannot be used to bypass your proxy only that javascript has to be purposely written to do that. Secondly, even Tor realizes that things like Flash and such are the sign of the times and used on most sites, which is why you can tweek those setting to begin with. Regardless of these settings Tor still anonymizes your surfing activity from your ISP, which is what its' main purpose is, to stop snooping. So, for example, a person living in Iran can still watch porn without triggering any alarms and going to jail for it. As well you can max out the privacy and script settings, as you suggested, when playing a game of hide-and-seek is truly necessary (which is not the case here).

Of course I don't claim to be a tech. One thing I am not convinced of is the assumption by Cloudfare that Tor can be used to send a DOS attack (though I did see something about that at the Tor site). A person from 4chan once told me that proxies cannot be used when sending a DOS attack as the DOS attack would only attack the proxy carrier and never reach its' intended destination. Of course there are many different kinds of DDOS attacks but the ones that are used at 4chan (or were, I don't hang out there anymore) couldn't have used something like Tor to do it. Datamining is big business and anonymizers such as Tor thwart that, which is why I believe Cloudfare has them on the blocklist. I have had Cloufare block me on my browser id, on sites I have never visited before,.......which is fucked up.
