I don't know what that has to do do with Japan. Isn't it more technical or JAV related?

I'm also not sure why you're asking. I would say: On my HDD. :p ;) But I guess that's not what you want to know, right. :)
I'm curious to know why you want to know that. Do you expect something like 'on my encrypted HDD'? Or 'on my SDD because HD movies don't play smoothly from my normal HDD'?

It might be Japan related, cause its JAV. I never heard of SDD, whats the difference between it and HDD?

I just want to know which folder, My Videos? I mean if you put there, that is so public right, if people are using your PC.

Sorry, typo. I meant SSD. Normal HDD have disks while SSD have memory chips they read and write on.

I guess you can store your videos in every folder you want. Or do you have any special requirements or problems (e.g. a video player software which recognizes only movies stores in certain folders)?

In my case I have a SSD as my primary HDD and a normal HDD as my secondary. On that secondary I have the movies in a sub-folder which I'm currently watching. All the other movies are on my NAS.

Isn't it a bit expensive to buy those NAS? Usually, I store the videos in the folder, C:\Downloads. I'm just curious which folder, where people usually keep their private stuffs.

Depends on the NAS, how many bays (means room for HDDs) you want to have and how many HDDs you put in there and what kind of HDDs you put in there. An 2 bay NAS starts at maybe $50 (e.g. Zyxel). Then you have to add at least one HDD. I wouldn't buy Zyxel because I want to have quality. But it shows that it isn't that expensive (anymore). QNAP or Synologic are more expensive, of course.

In my case I wouldn't store them there because I don't want to have anything in the root of my system drive. But basically you can put it wherever you want.

It is advised to keep files on external drives, for security reasons (in case of a HD/C crash), and for privacy too (unless you live alone ;) ).

In case of a crash or a defect I would recommend a backup to an external drive (e.g. USB drive). That also applies to a NAS - even if you use a RAID.
Only to keep files on an external drive won't add any benefit: If the external drives crashes - and that is more likely as it really can crash down from your desk while your PC doesn't in most cases. ;) - the data is also lost.
Okay, privacy is a point. In this cases I recommend different user profiles with password protection and a NAS with a users management and password protected shares (means network folders / drives).

It was written "on external drives" (plural), not on 1 external drive dear CodeGeek ;) And it should be added to have them in different locations (1 in your home, 1 in grand'ma's house, 1 in your office, etc.). With the NAS solution, if the house burns, is hit by a typhoon, earthquake, all is gone :)
Privacy: I recommend encrypted OS, the use of TrueCrypt (version 7.1a), DiskCryptor, etc., but that's may be too much :D

Sorry, I didn't recognize the plural. ;)

Yes, that's true. That's why I also recommend to make backups of the NAS - which I point out. ;)

I thought it is about privacy in aspect of other families members and / or roomates. In this case this is a little bit other the top. Okay, maybe if that room is a student of computer sciences and / or a computer geek. ;)

I keep stuff on a NAS, and for the "privacy" thing, the windows user account auto-logged-on on the living room PC just has no read access to the porn drive. That's not really secure, but keeps people from accidentally stumbling over its content.

I don't collect JAV but i have a small western porn folder (135GB) but my idol collection is a lot bigger (terabytes)
since I'm the only one using my pc i don't feel the need to have the stuff behind lock and key

135GB porn is on a 4TB external hdd and the idol movies are on another external 4TB hdd (almost full)
