From Reuters:

School team hit for 66 runs in two innings

I have little interest in baseball, but this sounds like something from The Bad News Bears. The poor pitcher threw more than 250 pitches during this very short game, which means that fully one quarter of all of his pitches resulted in a run for the other team! :dizzy: That's gotta be some kind of record.

I found it funny and kind of sad that the official score was declared 9 - 0, rather than 66 - 0, in order to spare the losing team the humiliation.

Feel free to post any weird or wild news from Japan on this thread.

Cross-Dressing Maid Cafe

I think this may have been mentioned on another thread, but this is the first video I've seen about it. :exhausted:

Doesn't that rather add to the humiliation, when you're so pitiful that they even change the scores out of sheer pity?

That's exactly what I thought! :lols:

There's been a spree of suicides lately where instead of the usual method of jumping in front of a train, people have been mixing easy to purchase chemicals (a detergent and some sort of bath salt) and killing themselves with the fumes. The problem is the fumes can spread and can hurt people outside of the intended target.

Here's two articles about it, but there's many more, although they all pretty much say the same thing. :murder:

All I have to say is, my dream has always been to witness a train suicide in Japan, and while the articles say the number of suicides are high, not high enough for me to catch one in action! There was a couple at my station but I was never there other than to be inconvenienced by it as I was coming home. :notagain:

I posted a news thing in the News section, but a mod has to approve it so it hasn't shown up yet.

Short end of the story: a deranged man (25yo) rented a truck from Shizuoka, drove it into Akihabara; ran over and killed 3 people. Then took a knife and began stabbing bystanders, killing 4 more and injuring another 11, before police were able to capture him at gunpoint.

Yep, that news about that crazy maniac who killed people at Akihabara showed up on my local news channel yesterday. My parents over-reacted and were so worried for me when I go to Japan next week. Gotta stay vigilant and careful when I'm over there!

They are now trying to pass legislature on raising taxes on tobacco in Japan which would mean the price of a pack would go up to ¥1000. This is about US 9.50. The people are clamouring over the possibility. As of now a pack in Japan goes for about ¥300 - 350. Super cheap compared to most countries.

Im all for it. Maybe while they are at it they can lower the beer tax to even everything out.
