An ad on this forum in the last few mins automaticly sent me to one of those fake virus scan/scam sites :evil:. The ones that make you think you have loads of virus and only thier program can fix it.

It happened to me over 30 hours ago. I emailed admin from outside,
no re/ or mention of it, until your post. Thank you I hope everyone knows how to deal with these, but I doubt it. I'm glad that I learned the hard way. Rubiks and I covered this in a similar thread, so I'm just gonna rehash by saying;
When a pop-up you've never seen, tells you to do something, take your hands off the controls, take a breath, and hit cntrl/alt/del and highlight the
application and 'end task'. clean your cache, and then.go warn others. NEVER click on any part of the ballon or icon, even to close it.

Thats the thing though there was NO popup as I have something that blocks them all. I was in another tab waiting for the page to load and when I came back back It was all ready on that virus scanning page and I had done nothing and seen no popups

Run some online scans and let them fix whatever is wrong.

Download http://www.malwarebytes.org/ install, update and run deepscan. Keep this tool on your desktop and keep it up to date.
If you're using Internet Explorer as a browser follow instructions here> http://home.planet.nl/~kleyn080/Spywareinfoen.html
I recommend using Firefox with a few addons for the strongest protection. I can tell you this, since installing Firefox and the addons mentioned below my system has been clean for years. I've been running as administrator for years with zero infections.
First download and install Firefox http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ then install the following addons:
1. NoScript: http://noscript.net/
2. Adblock Plus: http://adblockplus.org/en/installation
3. Flashblock: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433/
4. Better Privacy: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6623/
If you don't already have an anti-virus and firewall installed I recommend:
Avast anti-virus: http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download
As for personal firewalls most will do the job but some are very heavy on system resources. Whatever works for you? Also if you're behind a NAT router make sure the hardware firewall is enabled.

We do not have direct control on what ads are displayed but the ad company we use will remove bad ads as they are discovered. Major apologies for the inconvenience.
I hate to sound like a broken record but with only Firefox + NoScript + Adblock (and keeping Vista up to date), I've never had any problems with A-O since I've been here. I don't even bother with an anti-virus program and I turn off Windows Firewall (may get roasted for this), just the occasional online scan.

I try to report on this any time it happens... My protection software alerts me to attempted redirects and attempted software installs, and over the last couple days here I have had about 3 redirect attempts and several more times it has blocked the same java app that I reported previously.

hmm MSE blocked Adware:JS/Pornpop.A 2 times here, i had several bookmarks opened, when i mean several I mean more than 50 i dunno if its from AO but it's the first time it happened here.
no AV is very risky, i don't use FF so I'm not sure if Noscript is very effective, but if the malware goes though a vulnerability your system become another victim

It's a safe bet that more than 50% are being infected without knowing because they either have outdated security software or none a at all. Then there's the ones that do not report it because their AV, AT, etc caught the offending script and rendered it harmless.
I used to help out on a half dozen malware removal forums and found that a majority of the infected users had little or no protection yet still frequented torrent sites. I got tired of fixing the same users systems over and over again because they failed to follow my advice the first time. Some of which just refused to learn anything about security and why should they when they can just get someone else to clean their system for free.
The fact that people just don't care if their system is being used to attack other systems is frustrating to say the least. I stopped helping out because of these reasons.
