Silly question time. Just got a VR headset, set up in WIndows. What do I need to do next?

I followed this for VLC
https://videoconverter.wondershare.com/multimedia-tips/play-3d-movies-with-vlc.html

But it plays on the desktop not the cliffhouse, and it does the red/blue thing when I bring the desktop into the cliffhouse. No 3dness

Sorry can't believe I just stumbled on this. You need a VR headset to experience this as intended. VLC isn't going to cut it no matter what the settings or plugins used on a desktop, I'm afraid.
