The completed replacement site for Tokyo's famed Tsukiji fish market was unveiled in the Toyosu district of Tokyo's Koto Ward on July 30, 100 days before it opens.

A countdown event was held, and two members of the Japanese pop group TOKIO -- leader Shigeru Joshima and Masahiro Matsuoka -- were appointed as ambassadors to promote the new facility.

"I'll do my best to liven things up before the move," Joshima said.

Due to aging of the Tsukiji facility, the fish market will move to Toyosu on Nov. 7. The new market is about 1.7 times the size of the current one, with total floor space of about 510,000 square meters. It has a walkway for sightseers on the second floor, and all areas are roofed, making air conditioning and other sanitary management easier.

In connection with the move, a first-floor restaurant in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly building is offering meals featuring fresh seafood from Tsukiji market between Aug. 1 and 3.
