Un homme d'affaires ruiné est contraint de confier sa fille, Hisano, à un proxénète pour rembourser ses dettes. Celle-ci est revendue à une maison de geisha de Yoshiwara, le plus grand quartier des plaisirs du Japon où la prostitution est un art en même temps qu'un commerce depuis plusieurs siècles. Hisano est confiée aux trois oïran de la maison qui vont être chargées de la former à l'art des plaisirs…
