The Not So Attractive Truth (...in casting, that is)

I was recently skimming through HAVD-895, Sloppy Mother-Daughter Kissing and Sex: A Daughter Who Steals Her Mom's Lover, a Mom Who Seduces Her Daughter's Boyfriend, and realized something that I’ve seen in other titles (long since deleted) with a similar concept. The mother (or step-mother) is cast as the main star and the daughter/step-daughter actress is several levels (if I may say without being extremely rude) less attractive. The idea being, of course, that the daughter’s boyfriend becomes much more attracted to the mother and then the fun begins. In this case Mirei Kyono is (in my opinion) beautiful as compared to Saori Kurashina. She’s cute in a way I suppose, but she is no match for Mirei.

I had once read a post by someone here years ago saying that there was a misconception probably brought upon by non-country JAV fans that all Japanese women looked JAV worthy and ready. This poster pointed out quite the contrary. They mentioned something about traveling and having a stop in Tokyo and seeing “regular” Japanese women walking around. His bubble seemed burst. But…of course! They can’t all be beautiful.

So, with that in mind here is a comment and question. I wonder how Saori Kurashina and others like her feel about obviously being cast as the less attractive spurned female of a title. Being that women are much more emotional and image conscience than men, would they gravitate towards being able to work on such a project in the way those ugly men no doubt do for titles such as the Love - Dirty Man series?

Hmmm... Are you sure that's not just a bad screenshot of Saori?
While I wouldn't consider her beautiful in the classical sense, she does have her own charms.

And seeing that she is only 140 cm, and being a loli lover myself, I find that I'm more attracted to Saori Kurashina than to Mirei Kyono.

But to answer your question...
I can't imagine that the females feel all that offended. I mean they signed up for it after all. But I cant really speak well-informed as I'm not a female.

I'm always disappointed when these scenarios (and the other common one about girlfriend and her hot older sister) are cast with the mom or older sister being super hot and the girlfriend is plain. You know, I don't think the producers made a conscious effort to cast a plainer looking young woman to the Mirei bombshell so that audiences may more readily believe that the daughter's young boyfriend could be attracted to an older woman. We've seen plenty of JAVs where the older ladies are nothing to write home about, and yet we don't have to think twice about whether a young buck would want to do it with such an older woman. Men always check women out, but women also always check women out. We have run into stories about actions of the silver screen's grand dames, given that stars (in, let's say Hollywood - although no doubt power plays similarly happen in all film industries) have been known to make sure they do not get upstaged in the beauty department; even if it means pulling strings to ensure the greater beauty doesn't get hired. I'm thinking of one small screen example now, in fact; with "I Love Lucy," the classic old TV show, Lucille Ball made certain that her fellow female castmember Vivian Vance would maintain extra weight.

Yet unless we are talking about a rare and atomic-powered pornstar, the ladies in porn don't have that much choice. Especially in JAV, given the endless revolving door of women trying to make a living at the racket, I'm sure the ones who realize they will get outshined would simply swallow their pride... and make the other woman look even better, in comparison to the homelier looks of the ones not as blessed.

What I have a peeve about with many JAVs where the premise features a younger woman with an older one is that too often we get actresses who look like they can pass for sisters. (Even if the actresses are correctly set apart chronologically, given Japanese genetics, it is not unusual for those who are older to pass for ones much younger.)

Luckily, that is not the case with HAVD-895. We can certainly distinguish between the mother and the daughter.

I have not seen the movie, but judging from the screen shots, it looks like (although hard to tell, because his face is not seen in the shots I have consulted; I'm mainly going by his "anime" hanging hair) the man appearing with Saori Kurashina (I suppose playing the mother's lover whom the daughter "takes") is The Wise Guy:

While I'm aware this kind of thing is hardly at the forefront of most members' minds, given the apparent coincidental involvement of said actor in this film being discussed, I just wanted to mention that it was only earlier today that one of our very astute members, 3nuts, pinned down the identity of The Wise Guy... who had remained unknown for three whole years.

Finally, I was being insincere, as usual, when I remarked above that I didn't know why Casshern2 asked his question; he wanted to get an intelligent discussion going. Beyond that, look at how much steam this thread has picked up in just the two or three days since the thread was started. Has Casshern2 become the champion of discussion starters?
